it'll sound weird but if you ever heard of other places, worlds.

I don't mean this one.

If you've ever heard about one or been to one that looks like yours but isn't then, well.

I'd like to talk.

[Oh...

She's reticent to talk about such things, but that is a damn good reason that hits close to home.]

What sort of world is it? Do you know how she got trapped there?
hollystrike: (whilst the world is full of troubles)

[That sounds a little like the Shadowlands, which doesn't mean it is, unless this girl is from Katie's world. Either way, she can only deal in the philosophical.]

Most worlds are made up of multiple layers stacked together. Land of the living, land of the dead, land of spirits, land of dreams. They're all twisted reflections of the same place.

The barriers between then are sturdy but paper thin-- you can breach them if you know how. It's not wise. Denizens of one land can't survive long in some of the others. But if you know the rules that make it, you can find a way in and hope you're fast.

A safer way would be to find someone with experience there who can bargain on your behalf. Is that an option?

Without knowing how to travel, you can't. [This is technically a lie, as sheer luck might get you there, but--

The next part is a while in coming. She has to craft it very carefully to not be misleading but still not be entirely honest. Geases suck.]

While planes of reality overlay and overlap, most of them are fashioned in a way by the presence of creation. The problem with the far reaches of space is you only have tiny pockets of life surrounded by vast dead zones with absolutely nothing, not even air.

In all such zones, all planes may as well be one. Your negative of a picture probably doesn't exist out here. If it does, it's an awful long distance and we don't even know which direction your world is. You can't help your friend if you die trying to find her.

[She stops to massage away a headache. Then continues--] If you were already home I could suggest ways, but from here your best bet is to find someone capable of summoning and see if they can pull your friend here.

[It's the only hope she can really hold out. She has the wrong kind of arts, but she knows they exist.]

[It was an entrance and then it was a tree makes a vast amount of sense, actually, given her own gateways to the Dreaming. And she's sorry, kid. She can see why you'd be hopeful with all this weirdness going on.]

It could be that simple, if we had the right sort of information. Have you tried asking the Atroma how they brought you here? Whether they could bring someone else? I don't know if they're the type to strike bargains, but they've brought people here from all kinds of places. Theirs is the power to do so.

[And everyone has an asking price.]

[Not much else she can really help with, here.]

Wish you luck.

Some kinds of magic can be used together, so I've heard. If you find someone who can scry your friend's direct location, I might be able to help.

Your friend is kidnapped to a picture negative and you're on a fleet in the middle of space and you're questioning magic?

Science doesn't explain trees becoming entrances. It's as real as you think it is.
