[John's -- taken a little off-guard by that, but he recovers well enough. He's been at balls and such long enough to get at least a little used to this. He just didn't really expect it here.]

Pleased to meetcha. Can't say I've been to Brooklyn since before the war, but I've heard a lot of real good things about the States that I ended up missin'.

[pulcher]

I can show you drawings, if you'd like. 'm afraid I don't have pictures but I did draw a lot of Brooklyn.

[ the brooklyn he remembers from his childhood as well as the modern version of it. ]

Never been to North Carolina, I probably should visit.

Yeah? I'd love that, it'd be nice to see it without British ships in the way an' all.

I mean, last time I was back home was in the middle of summer, so maybe don't visit then, but yeah, it's real nice.

Haven't been there for a while.

[ it's said with a bit of patriotic pride. and that's from someone who's entirely devoted to an English-woman. ]

You must miss it a lot. Where are you stationed here? I know some of the other crews.

I'm on the Bishop. Gettin' to know some people on other ships, too, though; if only cause they said hello when I got here.

[ which...really defines him at the moment. he's still getting used to the idea of who he's talking to. ]

[He perks up a little at that, because hey! He went there for tea. He would have preferred coffee, but tea will do, he guesses.] Yeah? I met your captain, then; she had me over for tea a while ago.

you know me and her have this on-going battle. tea versus coffee. Be careful, she might try to enlist you.

[He can't help but laugh.] Man, I wasn't even in the colonies for the tea party an' I still prefer coffee. Certain ladies I know would prob'ly disagree, but they ain't tried to make tea on a campfire, either.

[pulcher]

Can't promise it'll be decent here but I'll try my best.

I mean. It's gotta be better'n what's on the ships, at least a little. Maybe we can find somethin' here.

It's worth asking around. though some of the places charge four times as much as others, gotta be careful about that.

[ he'll never get rid of the economical thinking the war instilled in him, it would seem. ]

...Oh. Yeah. Right, I don't have a lotta credits just yet. Maybe we'll get lucky anyhow. [Poor? What is that? It's hard to get used to.]
