In my time they called us daemons.

[Way to sound like a grandma, Velvet. She's still not used to the language differences, though.]

And yeah, we've met.

A pause. So...Sorey met her. Knows she's here. But here she is, definitely not purified. Like there's nooo way this girl has ever been on the other side of a purification.

....

SOREY YOU LITERALLY HAVE ONE JOB.]

I...see.

[Okay. He can deal with this. He does a long inhale to help clear his mind.]

So are you a peaceful...daemon? I wasn't aware that could happen in that world.

[She raises an eyebrow again, wondering how much Sorey has told him about their world, and also, maybe, how much is still relevant since there are definitely differences between her time and Sorey's.]

If a daemon is strong enough and a had a strong enough will as a human, they can keep their personality after they've changed.

[Which might make them somewhat less likely to go berserk, at least.]

Really? That's news to me.

[He let's out a little sigh. It's not too strange a concept for him, he's encountered a number of creatures who are the same way. It's just new to hear it come from this world in particular, especially after it's been painted so much as a black and white issue. He'll have to ask Sorey and Mikleo about this later, he supposes.]

Anyway, yes. I'm an Exorcist. My name is Allen Walker. Whenever I sense an unusual dark energy- or malevolence, as you call it- I try to investigate to see if it's a threat. That's what I was doing.

I just...try to be subtle about it, usually.

[She shrugs a little.]

Maybe things changed at some point.

[She was aware that a lot had changed between her time and Sorey's, so it's possible there were fewer powerful daemons--or hellions--that maintained their personality in the future.]

What have you learned from your investigation?

Maybe.

[Or Sorey and Mikleo still have a lot to learn about these things. Which honestly, he's willing to believe it's the latter. They were still pretty new at the job when they came to the fleet.

And he pauses, deliberating how much to share]

You're strong, but most of the energy is concentrated in your arm. And not all of it is yours.

Lucky for you, she wants to be there. [Otherwise? He probably would've attacked on sight.]

[She just raises an eyebrow.]

Lucky for one of us, anyway.

[She's not sure how powerful he is, though. It's hard to gauge his strength when he's not really like the exorcists of her world. It's kind of interesting that he can sense Seres specifically, though.]

[He catches that eyebrow raise. Better than a freak out, like some people have been prone to do]

My powers work differently than the Exorcists of your world. I don't use a Seraph- or, whatever they're called in your time.

[He offers a shrug.]

Anyway, other than that, I haven't observed much more yet.

Malakhim. Yeah. I didn't think I sensed any.

[She sighs and tilts her head.]

Does that mean you're going to keep following me around?

[Not that she blames anyone for not trusting her, but being shadowed is a little annoying.]

Malakhim, then.

[He offers an apologetic smile]

Not for much longer, promise. It doesn't seem like you're about to go on a killing spree.

[Well, that's true. Unless she finds out who and where the Atroma are then that might change, but for now she's not really interested. But still.]

Yeah. And now I know to be on my best behavior.

[There might be a soft amused sound. Honestly, her attitude reminds him of someone else he knew. ]

You know, you're taking this awfully well.

[She tilts her head a little at that.]

Yeah? Were you trying to send me into a rage or something?

No. [He shakes his head] Believe it or not, I'd be happy if I didn't have to fight any of the demons...daemons here.

Just usually when I do this, they get much more defensive. Or aggressive. That's all.

Have you had to fight many of them?

[She asks mostly out of curiosity. She hasn't really met any actively hostile types in the fleet. Annoying, sure. But not hostile or overly aggressive.]

Only a couple here. We've been really fortunate. The last place I stayed was much worse.

My theory is that Atroma can recognise that having a demon here that eats their crews innards would be bad for ratings.

Yeah...I guess...

[She sounds vaguely bewildered because she's not sure what ratings mean in this context. She's still new to all this reality TV lingo. Or, really, any TV lingo, to be honest.]

[He catches that bewilderment in her voice]

Um, ratings means how many people watch a show. So a show with good ratings will make money, while one with bad ratings won't and might get cancelled altogether.

Oh. Right.

[That makes about as much since as anything does when it comes to the subject of being viewed by an audience. Although it does bring up something she wonders about.]

So, do you think it's really true? That we're being watched for entertainment?

I don't know.

[He gives a shrug of his arms]

I've never met any fans of the show or found any of the cameras, but that could have a good explanation as to why. And as much as I'd like to believe people wouldn't watch a show that kidnaps people and holds them against their will... [He sighs.] I know better than that.

Yeah, it wouldn't surprise me.

[She has a cynical enough view of the world--or multiverse--to believe it. But she also has trust issues and can't help but wonder if there isn't more to the story.]

I'm sure someone somewhere is entertained.

Probably.

At least they haven't made us fight to the death yet.

Maybe you shouldn't give them ideas.

[You know, assuming they might be watching right now.]

[He shrugs]

Don't worry, we've said that one for years.
