[ He hesitates before putting it forward. ]
Some people on the Fleet got together and we might put together a few courses. Nothing like a school, but . . . a start.
[ He grimaces slightly. ] Another start, I should say.
no subject
That's good news, isn't it?
no subject
[ He huffs. ] It's just a little . . . galling, I suppose. Not that it matters. My students are gone.
[ And it won't be the same. Not that Charles expects it to be, but he misses his students. The ones that wanted to be around him, the ones he tucked into bed and passed in the hallways. ]
no subject
And I imagine it is. You're used to being in charge. These people might not have been around when you offered the first time.

[ Charles can't help the note of slight disdain. He's never been too fond of the superhero idealism and lifestyle. He may have his own ideals, but they've never been naive. At least, not anymore. Also the idea of running around in spandex, righting wrongs seems a bit much. He turns to look up at Erik. ]
I am very appreciative that people want this. And are willing to put in time for it.
no subject
Erik moves his hand up to Charles's shoulder.]
Yes. But you were here first. And you'll hold them to account, since you have experience in the matter.
no subject
My experience isn't more or less than anyone else's simply because I run a school. Who knows? If that many people have powers, I could learn a lot. Do better by my students when I go back.
no subject
It's a unique experience, much like anyone else's will be. There are advantages in having different types of expertise. Like a broader scope.
no subject
I know. I am looking forward to it. I can't help myself.
no subject
I bet you already have half a dozen lesson plans ready.
no subject
I may have a few left over . . .
no subject
Of course.
no subject
It seemed like the best use of my time . . . at the time.
no subject
[He turns off the path a little, and moves to sit on a bench nestled between more glowing formations. With a tilt of his head, he watches Charles in the soft light.]
What kind of plans have you already written?
no subject
After that, I might introduce some guided questions. Consider different applications of powers in our daily lives.
[ He'll keep going, you realize. ]
no subject
So asking them to think outside of the box?
no subject
[ You're not alone. Of course that would be Charles' philosophy, the backbone of his work. ]
no subject
It's a lesson worth learning.]
no subject
Anyway, nothing is quite set in stone. These aren't mutants and it will be very different. I'll have to adjust a lot of my thinking.
no subject
no subject
[ But now that they're on the topic. ]
What about you?
no subject
no subject
[ Charles avoids mentioning himself in that statement. ]
no subject
After a moment, he shuts his eyes and makes himself consider it properly. He looks at Charles again.]
Not often. [He rubs at his knuckles absently.] Do you have anyone to manage the gardens?
no subject
I have a part time gardener who comes in every few weeks or so.
