[ Cara catches him, despite her inclinations to let him topple over. She's never been fond of drunks, but she cannot smell the telltale whiff that pervades most men in their drunken stupors. ]

[He carefully shrugs her off -- he's not a big fan of unexpected contact but he's not ungrateful for the support. It takes a moment to answer, but he does so (somewhat) honestly.

... Lying is difficult.] Ah... yes. I suppose so. [That's the best way of putting it, he supposes.] It's nothing.

[Okay, so sometimes lying is easier than other times. 'Nothing' he says, like he's not actually dying. (Or not, thanks Atroma?)]

[ Cara eyes him critically. ]

I do not believe so. And that was a poor lie.

[He frowns at her answer; she likely will not let this go. So much of an explanation hinges on an understanding of angelic grace that he doesn't want to get into.]

[Though perhaps he can find a way to explain this in terms she might understand.]

[ She raises an eyebrow at that. ]

I don't see why not.

[He does so, a little gingerly; he knows what moving too fast would do now and he has no desire to end up sitting on the floor.]

It's akin to an illness. There is no cure.

[ Oh. Is she supposed to be sympathetic? People are hard. ]

You do not seem upset.

I brought it upon myself. [He's upset, yes, but more so that he has been forced into this position than by his eventual death.]

That is usually the case for strange fatal diseases.

But that shouldn't preclude you from finding a cure either.

[He sighs.] I know what the cure is. Unfortunately, it's not possible, especially here. My symptoms seem to be a little better, though, since I came here.

[ Cara taps the table. ] I regained my agiels from my world last month. They just appeared in a temple.

Have you asked the Fleet?

[He sighs; it's a nice thought, to suddenly find his Grace accessible again, even as depleted as it would be.]

I am not sure I'd want it here. Even in well-meaning hands, it can be... unstable. [Not quite the word he's looking for but good enough. Stray Grace can be used for a number of things besides curing him.]

[ Magic was always the most unstable element. ]

[Sure, magic. It's close enough.]

A part of me, if you will, but separated and stolen. Alone, it could be used in any number of ways. With me, it is mine and mine alone. [He sighs, leans back in the chair, and crosses his arms.] I took another's ...magic to survive. [Just gonna use her word there.] Death should be the consequence of that.

[The way he says it might suggest that he truly believes that death should come to those who do such a thing.] I believe Atroma has slowed its progress somehow.

[ Her gaze is blunt and pins him down. ]

But do you want to die?

[That actually throws him for a second -- then he returns her steady gaze with one of his own.]

I do not want to die. [Does he deserve to? Probably. But does he want to? No, not really. There's too much to do, too many people whom he wants to remain near. Too much he can't let go of.]

[ Satisfied, she backs off. ]

Then you should do everything you can.

[He sighs.] And that includes looking for a cure here.

What sort of ability do you have? [Sheer curiosity makes him ask; he has his doubts as to anything working on this, given the nature of it.]

Should I ever die, I will tell a friend to call you. You can try it on me. [He's... probably serious.] I am not human, so it may not work.

Try not to die in the Fleet though. It'll create a mess and everyone will panic. They do that when things get . . . intense.
