I could get a tail to swim with and everything. I think I'd skip the seashell bra, though.

Can't blame you there. That sounds uncomfortable.

That and I'd probably never hear the end of it from everyone else.

Oh come on, you don't want to be known as The Little Mermaid?

9-year-old me is saying "YES!", but Captain Keller is giving that the stink-eye.

Well, in any case, hopefully we will be able to make good use of our new abilities- though I can't say the lakes here seem particularly inviting.

Yeah, I'm kinda wary of just diving in. Seems like the water wouldn't be very pleasant to breathe in, even if we could. Thankfully, there are other resources we can use here.

The spas are very good, at least.

Mmm, I wouldn't mind hitting one up. I feel like I could use a good massage.

Ohh they have these wonderful hot rock massages - you must try it!

Mmm... especially after last month.

Yeah. [She sighs.] Maybe I'll have a more stable crew from here on out, too. I've had so many people cycle in and out since I became Captain I was starting to feel like a jinx on my ship.

[She shakes her head.]

They are lucky to have you as a captain.

[Jennifer smiled at that, but it faded a little.]

Yeah, most of the ones I have now seem to like me. I have one who doesn't think much of me, though. Because I don't make my crew follow rules and a schedule and stuff.

[She raises an eyebrow, Even as a member of Starfleet, that sounds ridiculous, given the situation.]

A schedule? Why would they need a schedule?

Yeah, I tried explaining that we all just... kind of do our own thing here with minimal interference from Atroma, but she wasn't having it. To be fair, it sounds like she comes from a militaristic society. Something with a lot of structure. But that's not my style.

I am used to more structure as well... But I can hardly expect this to work like Starfleet. It's a very different situation.

Yeah. I suppose she's going to have to figure that out for herself- and the fact that resisting Atroma's far more difficult than it looks. That was another point against me, that I'm apparently not doing enough to break free.

[Beverly sighs with exasperation.]

If it makes you feel any better, I have gotten that accusation many times myself.

Heck, I've blamed myself sometimes. But if you're new here, it's hard to grasp just how much the deck is stacked against us.

Mmm... And for people who are fighters... I think it's even harder.

If you're used to taking action... to being able to do SOMETHING... well, transitioning out of that mindset isn't easy. So I'm trying not to take it too personally.
