[ jade wants to empathize, but it's difficult, because - well, she's never really had parents to miss. it's not something that really bothers her, but it does sometimes make connecting with other teenagers difficult. ]

Pets are kinda awful here, anyway. On the fleet, I mean. I had a fox for a while - he was a huuuuge pain.

A fox? [Tina brightens at that.] You were allowed to have a pet fox? Atroma's really lax about laws...

I think Atroma's really lax about anything that might bring in good ratings.

[ said thoughtfully, as if she's just now realizing this. ]

Hmmm... I think that's a good way to put it. I mean, they DO let an eight-year-old captain a ship, and I bet the audience just loves that.

[ she can't help but crack up a little at that - mostly the mental image, though she's sure the eight year old is Plenty Capable. ]

[Tina whistles at that.]

A bunch of other places, huh...? Sometimes I feel like I'm the only person here who's just from plain old Earth. The farthest I've ever been from home is visiting Florida.

[ jade is surveying the pet rocks again, though, expression curious. ]

I dunno, I kinda like it so far here. I get to see so many things... like that planet that had all the bird horses on it.

[Tina smiles at the offer.]

Well, thanks! I want to get one that's decorated... except nothing with unicorns on it.
