Dramatic though it may sound, it is exactly what I am supposed to be. Though, I suppose "adviser" is the more common title.

[It's totally political. Kind of hard not to be when your best friend is also your king.]

I agree that no man—or woman—can take care of one of the many ships alone. I seems highly unlikely, given all of the complicated positions just my vessel alone has. I don't understand half of the machines that are used nor do I think that any one person here does.

"Advisor" doesn't sound as exciting.

[She might be kind of teasing again.]

But, yeah. My augment only supplies information relevant to piloting. I don't know what to do with a lot of the other technology on the ship.

No, it doesn't, but it sounds better than steward or bodyguard.

[Which, honestly, is exactly what his position is in the household of Lucian kings. Not that he's told her that. Not that he will.

They've just met, after all.]

My augment is for that of the cook on my ship. It seemed a bit superfluous, considering my hobbies include experimental cooking. However, it has helped me to know exactly what all of the appliances do. I suppose I could find another augment to help the rest of my shipmate in a different way, if I wanted.

There are worse things to be than a bodyguard.

[She doesn't see anything wrong with that particular label, really. It's kind of impressive in its own way.]

Oh, that's pretty lucky. I don't know what half the things in the kitchen do.

[It's really weird for her to understand how to navigate a ship, but not how to use stuff in the kitchen. Most of the appliances are foreign to her, and that on top of her own inability to taste anything has kept her from trying to cook since she arrived in the fleet.]

Oh, there are, but it depends on whom one is guarding, doesn't it?

[Not that his job is all that hard. He enjoys the company and his goals align rather closely with Noctis's. He just wishes that it was easier to get the prince up some days. His job as royal nanny doesn't pay enough sometimes.]

I would be more than happy to show you if you're interested. On the First Breath, of course.

Yeah, probably.

[It's probably easier to be a bodyguard for someone when you actually care about their well being.

She considers his offer for a moment, then shrugs a little. Why not. She's not necessarily planning on trying to become the Red Fish's cook, but she'd at least like to know how things work.]

Okay. I might take you up on that.

That's good to hear. But I must warn you that there are some here that will call me a vicious task master when it comes to the art of cooking.

[Although, considering the source of who might lodge that complaint, eh...]

If that doesn't deter you, please stop by any time you'd like.

Oh, I know how to cook. I just don't understand all the technology here.

[So in other words she's not too worried. She has a lot of confidence in her own skills. Though either way she feels like she can probably handle it. If she can handle Artorius' training she can handle Ignis.]

Some of it is a little more advanced to what I had to use back home, but it's mostly the same. The rampant use of the protein substitute is a little appalling which is why I'm trying to gather ways to bring fresh food back with us to the Fleet.

[It's good to know that she's not a novice in the kitchen. However, while he might not be a slave driver in the training arena, he doesn't allow for sloppiness in the kitchen at all.]

[She has confidence in her abilities. Celica was a good teacher.]

Good idea. I don't think there's much to be done with those gels.

[personal profile] nonightdriving 2017-05-11 02:50 am (UTC)(link)
[She will have to prove herself. Show those skills from your sister.]

There is a surprising amount of what to do with the gels. They just all taste relatively the same in the end.
searingedgelord: (19)

[personal profile] searingedgelord 2017-05-11 02:54 am (UTC)(link)
[She will!]

Really? [She sighs.] I guess it's all the same to me in the end, anyway.

[She can eat the gels without complaint about the flavor, really. Lacking a sense of taste is kind of helpful that way. The texture gets a little old, though.]

[personal profile] nonightdriving 2017-05-11 04:24 am (UTC)(link)
There are minute differences, but they all suffer from the same consistency and I fear that mars any possibility of it tasting "different" to me in the long run.

Of course, I've been accused of being a bit of a snob when it comes to food before now.
searingedgelord: (30)

[personal profile] searingedgelord 2017-05-11 04:50 am (UTC)(link)
I guess that makes sense.

[And it does. There was certainly a time in her life when she thought that way to some degree, and she still does if she's cooking for other people. She just doesn't worry about it for herself. It's good Phi was always a willing taste tester.]

I can't taste anything, so I don't have the luxury of being a snob about it. [She tilts her head slightly. She's talked to him enough that she figures that might concern him a little.] Don't worry, though, I learned to cook when I could still taste. I remember how flavors work. I just need a little help.

[personal profile] nonightdriving 2017-05-11 04:25 pm (UTC)(link)
[Her admission makes him pause. Not being able to taste anything is detrimental to anyone who cooks. It's necessary to tell if you've got the right blend, especially with unusual or unknown ingredients.]

A little help? That appears to be a bit of an understatement. A cook without a sense of taste or smell is dangerous to everyone involved unless one is more than just a little careful. While it's good to know that you learned before whatever caused you to lose your sense, the loss is a bit detrimental, both as a cook and as a person.
searingedgelord: (46)

[personal profile] searingedgelord 2017-05-11 08:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Maybe. [She sighs and glances down at her left hand.] Not as detrimental as other things.

[She shifts her gaze back to him.]

If you're worried about it being dangerous I won't ask you to eat anything I make.

[She sounds a little flippant about it, but it's just a coping mechanism. Her sense of taste is really just the tip of the iceberg of things Artorius took from her, and with all the malevolence she carries around it's easy for resentment to start bubbling up inside her. Flippancy is her best defense against a spiral of bad feelings.]

[He notices the action and follows her eyes down to the bandages all around her left arm and hand. It's obvious that there is a story behind it, but he's not like to ask her.

Not when the loss of her sense of taste is more important for their conversation and plans.]

Don't be ridiculous. There are healers and doctors amongst the other members of the Fleet and from what you've said, you can cook and not harm others.

If the worst should happen, I will merely call Lady Lunafreya or one of the others. It's not a huge problem.

[personal profile] searingedgelord 2017-05-12 06:28 am (UTC)(link)
[That's okay, she doesn't want to talk about her arm right now anyway. He's actually managed to distract her from her angst. Maybe it wasn't what he intended, and maybe she should be insulted by his talking about potentially bringing in healers, but she can't. She's developed a pretty thick skin to insults by now, and he actually seemed to be trying to reassure her. In the most painfully practical and honest way possible.

So, she laughs. It comes out as a low, quiet chuckle, and it doesn't last long, but she's clearly amused.]

I guess I'll just have to prove myself.

[Her laugh, though brief, is good for her. It softens her face, shows how extremely attractive she is and it points out that she isn't all attitude.

He likes it. It's definitely charming.]

I look forward to that, Velvet. Contact me when you're ready.
