...do you have a nickname?

[ because he's already forgotten what she just said. ]

[It's fine she kinda did that on purpose. She tries not to look amused.]

Makie is just fine. I know it's difficult for many.

[ how rude. he may have to like her. ]

Might want to open with that, then. Lance Hunter. [ he nods ] So, what does a tactical officer do?

It's an arbitrary rank. As far as I'm aware, it means I'm supposed to offer tactical advice and strategy. Poorly thought out on the Atroma's behalf, given I have no experience with this level of technology.

[She settles for stuff like Hey Captain, your other Captain's about to pull a dumbass stunt, might wanna get on that.]

Does anyone? It would be poor planning on their part to bring someone on board who can use their tech against them.

[ besides, idiots bumbling through space probably gets more ratings than competent people being competent in space. ]
therewerefifty: (are you kidding me)

[personal profile] therewerefifty 2017-05-08 04:44 am (UTC)(link)
True. Though it seems quite a few passengers do come from times where space-faring is at least a possibility. It's quite far off from my own.

How far off are we talking here? What's a rocket, or fire's that thing you get by banging two stones against each other?
therewerefifty: (judging you)

[That second example gives her pause. Like-- wouldn't that be the dawn of time? She certainly hopes nobody is from that far back, for their own sake.]

It's hard to give a proper description, I suppose, though I've read some books on Japanese history since. I can tell you the year in my time, by your method of timekeeping, is 1782.

Sorry, did you mean to say 1982? [ holding up nine fingers and enunciating every syllable of the number slowly. 1782? what was even going on in the world that far back? he nodded off during history class. and every class. ]
therewerefifty: (searching look)

My timekeeping is not so inexact as to make an error two hundred years out.

[Dryly. She's 18th century, not an idiot.]
