[ now that there's someone aboard another ship from back home (even if fitz still only knows him from here), he finally leaves the bishop once in a while! yes, he's gotten to know some people in his time here so far but just sorta inviting himself to their ships felt awkward.

okay this does too, but significantly less so.

he spends most of his time in the kitchen, since it's the more neutral area of the ship. people live here! he doesn't want to wander about aimlessly looking for hunter.

except, of course, when he finds himself in the twin roses' engine room. look he can't help himself, okay. especially given the crew doesn't include an engineer of their own. he's just looking out for you guys! poking around and making sure everything is working as intended ]

[There's a Kitty coming up quietly behind you in the engine room.] Plotting some sabotage, Fitz? [Less quiet when she speaks. She doesn't actually think it's sabotage and there's no severity to her voice, but she is curious.]

[briste]

[ between her quiet approach and getting a little lost in the comforting hum of the engines, he near jumps out of his skin when she speaks. he whips around, his hand on his chest over his pounding heart ] What? No! No, nothing like that. I was just- There's no engineer here. So I wanted to- I was checking on things.

[passingthrough]

[The side of her mouth tries to tug up into a smile as she fights it.] Relax. You were less freaked out when I actually walked through you last time. That's nice of you. Sorry I startled you. To what do we owe the extra engineering aid?

[Things should be in good shape. She and Castle look after it with what their augments will allow them to cover, and Winn is always checking up on things too. Of course none of it is the same as actually having a crew member assigned to the ship who can provide shields in case of emergency. She's been thinking of switching augments for it, but she hates the idea. She doesn't like choosing anything about the augment, even trading one for another. And there's something nice about being a compliment to Winn instead of something more repetitive.]

I was- I didn't know how to react to that. Nothing like that had ever happened to me before. Being startled though, that's happened before. Plenty of times. Not that I'm easy to startle. [ nerves of steel! ] I came here to visit with Hunter but when I didn't see him, I figured I would come down here to check on things.

[ he's just trying to be helpful. he likes to be useful, to have something to do that's familiar. and while regular space ship maintenance may not exactly be familiar, electronics are. everything here does look fine though. he honestly figured it would be. he doubts that all of the ships have full crews (hell, the bishop is one of them) and they do just fine! for the most part, at least ]

[She smiles as he continues on, reminding her of Winn. Well, Winn with an accent. It's kind of cute.] You reacted to it just fine. You and Hunter are friends? Same world?

[briste]

[ just think of him sort of like winn: the foreign edition! ] We're friends, yeah. Or we will be. I only know him from here, but he said that he knows me, that we're friends. [ he nods ] Same world. Same team, I'm told.

[So exotic!] Oh. Yeah, those are always a little awkward, huh? [Not that he's been through it before necessarily.] I mean, I haven't had that exactly, but I've had many variations of strange connections in these places. I'm usually the one more in the know which is usually better. [And if he didn't remind her of a bunny-like version of Winn then she would probably add in something more cynical about how it would be easy to manipulate someone into believing it. But Hunter made her stew and she didn't die so here's hoping?]

This is the first time it's really happened to me. At least with me being on this side of it. Being told about things I've done that I haven't done yet, and about people I know that I don't know yet is... [ he sighs and rubs the back of his neck ] Awkward is a good word for it. [ it was different with peggy, because he was the one with the memories of things that happened. it had been a little awkward and strange even then, but it was nothing compared to this.

it would definitely be easy to manipulate someone though. especially when that someone happens to be a person like fitz. trust people. give them the benefit of the doubt! ]

[Hark, a complete stranger in their kitchen.

...that seems to happen more often than not, tbh. Makie pauses in the entry way and glances at him with no great surprise, and then pads into the kitchen proper, pulling her ginger tea down from the cupboard.]

Are you looking for someone?

[ unless it's newly assigned crew members, the bishop doesn't really have a whole lot of strangers around. and even then, fitz doesn't see a whole lot of them because he spends too much time in his room or in the engine room ]

Hi, yes. I was here to see Hunter, actually. I don't know if you've met him yet. He's still pretty new to your ship.

Ah, Mr Hunter. Yes, we've met. [Dryly.] He's the one that's hard of hearing, correct?

[Their first meeting might not have been the most brilliant. Though he seems likable enough. Makie smiles faintly.]

I'm not sure where he is currently, but I assume he's still on the ship somewhere. Are you from the same place?

Hard of hearing? I'm sorry but I don't think I follow.

[ hunter seems like an interesting person, to say the least. he can only imagine what makie's first meeting with him might have been like ]

From the same place? Yeah, we are. We're friends. [ sort of friends ] Worked together.

[Makie is amused at the confusion, but she makes no attempt to clarify. It's not important.]

I'm glad to see that he has company from his own world, then. It can be a rarity, here.

My name is Makie. Did you arrange to meet him in a particular place? I can direct you, if needed.

I've been noticing that a little, the rarity of it.

I'm Fitz. And no, I didn't arrange to meet him in any particular place. I didn't actually tell him that I was coming here.

I suppose the most likely places to find him are the armory or the kitchen. [Though by process of elimination, given they're currently in the kitchen-- well.]

Do you like tea, Mr Fitz?

[ in the engine room, you say! the twin roses doesn't have a lived in engineer, it's true, but it does have a semi-lived in engineer, currently giving those engines a once over.

he looks up when he hears footsteps, assuming it's kitty coming to check up on him. he's wrong, but he doesn't seem to mind. ]

Hey - ummm... [ he racks his brain, trying to remember. a lot has happened since he welcomed this guy to the fleet. he really needs to be better about following up, but it's just...he gets so busy and people keep arriving and who can keep up? ] Fitz, right? [ he points to himself, not expecting to be remembered ] It's Winn, hi -

[Vash was walking by, then stops and doubles back when he realizes someone was in the engine room.

He's pretty sure Fitz is probably someone's friend so he doesn't question it too much.]

So tell me honestly, doc. Don't sugar coat it. Is she going to make it?

[He kids, but he actually would like someone else's opinion on how his engine is running.]

[ fitz looks over his shoulder when he hears a voice over the sound of the humming engines. he closes the panel he'd been looking behind and turns around ]

She looks pretty healthy to me. Whoever's been taking care of your ship's engine in the absence of a proper engineer of your own has been doing a good job, it looks like.

That's good. I think it's been a team effort really. I don't know a lot of engines, but I'm pretty good at figuring out moving parts if I spend enough time around them.

Glad it doesn't look like it's been completely useless.

No, no definitely not completely useless. You've done some decent work. [ not quite as good as it could be, but not as bad, either ]

I'm Fitz. You know, I could come by once in a while and check on the engine for you until you get an engineer of your own. If you'd like.

Really? You'd do that for us? Man, thanks, that would be a life saver if you think you can do that for us!

[briste]

Yeah, it's no problem. I can do that for you. Be nice to have a little someone else to do besides hoping something breaks that I can fix on my ship. Not that I actually hope something breaks, of course. I just mean I like making sure I have things to keep myself busy.

I think I can understand that. I don't want trouble either, but no one wants to go stir crazy on these ships during the time between planets. You're welcome on this ship whenever you want to check out these engines.

Or if you ever want something else to distract yourself with and have a bit of fun. Do you play cards at all?

I suppose we'll be seeing more of each other then. [ meaning he plans to drop by often. you know, to check on the engines ]

Play cards? I do, yeah. Sometimes, since there hasn't been much time for it home lately. Or before I got here, I guess. [ not that he's great at it or anything. especially without somewhere here to help him cheat. not that he'd ever cheat at cards oh goodness no! ]
