[Strolling along one of the nicer asteroids, pleasantly full from a meal large enough that it may have worried the restaurant owners. He is walking side by side with Kara and while it still doesn't seem real that Winn is just gone, he's having a pretty good day with the woman he loves. He's smiling at her when he notices a store with toys in the display window and stops.]

Oh, let's go in there.

It sounds fun, doesn't it? [He does think it sounds fun actually, but that's not why it caught his eye.] And you've probably met my captain by now?

Yes, but I'm going to be honest: I try not to run into him when I'm staying over. It's nothing against him, it just seems like it might be awkward.

[He smiles and kisses her cheek.] Just say you came over for breakfast.

[He opens the door for her.] It sounds like he doesn't have many toys. [Or that he ever has.] And he's always trying to do things for the crew.

Do you know what sort of thing he might like? I haven't bought anything for a kid in awhile, but I'm sure we can find something nice.

He definitely mentioned bouncy balls. [Looking over the shelves. There's a whole display of pet rocks. Funny that you'd have pets at a toy shop.]

Okay but do you think he's going to bounce the ball against people's doors?

It doesn't sound like the end of the world if he does. People can just ask him to stop. I think he would. [He smiles.] Is that what you would have done?

[Takeshi had been napping a bit when someone knocked — and of course, per the usual captaining, he is quick to leap right out of bed, stagger a little drowsily, and slap his cheeks before opening his door. If he has a bit red mark from his pillow on his face, you won't point it out, will you?]

Hi, Mr. Mon-El! Is something going on?

Oh, did I wake you up? [Oops. When do children sleep?] It's nothing bad or emergency like. Kara and I just found [bought] some things you might like.

[He stares in rather serious disbelief for a moment.]

... You brought things — for me?

[Even now, he still has such a difficult time believing people'd stop and do something like that for him. He doesn't expect gifts or offers of toys, anything of the sort. He's used to just getting these things himself. Kaze, Heather, Netherlands, they'd all taught him that it doesn't always have to just be by his own efforts. But it's still unexpected nonetheless.]

Yeah. Do you want to see them? [He didn't wrap anything. That seemed too formal without a real reason. He just wanted to do this.]

[throwsdown]

[Oh gosh, is this a trick question? He's gonna implode from thinking too hard.]

I — I do! I don't gotta wait until a birthday or anything, do I??

You don't even have to wait another minute. [He hands the bag to him. There are some crayons, a coloring book, a bouncy ball, and a stuffed flamingo because why not? And even though most of it is stuff Takeshi said he'd like Mon-El still looks a little nervous to see if he really does.] Kara helped too. [And paid for some, but he doesn't want him thinking about the money.]

[Catching even if he is a little surprised, but it's kind of exactly what he needed right now. Making someone else happier actually is making him feel better about everything that happened with Kara.]

I'm glad you like them, Takeshi. [Maybe less glad if he hasn't been getting lots of great things, but it was just one of the best.] And if you ever need someone to play with I have some great playing skills.

[He blinks — and uh oh, Mon-El, you're doomed for poking later.]
