[Strolling along one of the nicer asteroids, pleasantly full from a meal large enough that it may have worried the restaurant owners. He is walking side by side with Kara and while it still doesn't seem real that Winn is just gone, he's having a pretty good day with the woman he loves. He's smiling at her when he notices a store with toys in the display window and stops.]

Oh, let's go in there.

Well, he's a good kid. And captain. [And Mon-El worries about some of the things he's said before. He grabs a bouncy ball and a booklet to color in.] This is probably good.

I like being with you too. A lot. [A beat. Even more sincere looking.] I don't know what I'd do if I lost you. [And he's been thinking about that a lot lately between people telling him he should get his secrets out of the way before the Atroma highlight them and Winn disappearing.]

[ she finds herself under his arm with her arm around his back ]

I did not know that was one of your powers. [He gives her shoulder a squeeze.] It sounds like a good one. [He looks thoughtful. He's been carrying his secrets too close to the surface lately as things conspired against him to bring it up. But he's still afraid to say anything and it's all too easy to keep telling himself he can put it off for Kara's sake too.]

Anyway, I guess I could've just said I can't imagine what I'd do without you too, which is true.

That is amazing to hear. You have no idea, Kara. [It means so much to him and he knows it's built on a lie that the Atroma could pull away anytime they want. But does that mean he should pull it away? If it will hurt them both to do it?]

I, mm, I never felt very wanted before. [Is this it? Is he doing it or is he just circling to back out again with a laugh soon? Stay tuned to find out.]

That is flattering, but my parents were always busy. [Is his mouth dry? It feels a little dry.] They had more important things to do.

[ she looks up at him, realizing that he's being serious and sharing something about himself, which is very, very rarely does ]

Like what? I can't imagine anything more important than taking care of a child.

[He laughs awkwardly. This is usually the first sign he's going to lose his nerve.] No, it wasn't that, but that is a big one. [He wonders if they didn't spend much time with her either. He wants to ask. He wants to know. To hear her talk. To know her better. But he also knows if he turns down that path he might not come back here and he feels like this is the right thing. It's what everyone and everything has been telling him. And more than anything he wants to do right by Kara.]

Maybe we could find a place to sit down? There are some things I need to tell you.

I hope so. [He's nervous and he doesn't think it's going to end well for the couple who was just saying how much they don't want to be without each other.]

I lied to you when I told you how I ended up in the pod coming to earth. [No coming back from that one. Not without doubling down with new lies. But he looks at her with remorse as he says it and he feels every ounce of that. Maybe if he'd just told the truth then, maybe it would have taken longer for her to accept him, but it could have still happened, right?]

[ she goes completely still—the supernatural kind of stillness that a deer performs when trying to decide if she should run or keep going. she swallows and her tone is cool and composed ]

Kara, I wasn't a guard for the royal family of Daxam. [It's the smallest of pauses between sentences, but it feels like a lifetime as he searches her eyes, so afraid she'll never want to look at him again. He starts to get choked up, so he presses onward.] I was [the past tense comes naturally though ] the prince.

I'm sorry... what?

[ she scoffs a bit, her body language still stiff, conveying her disbelief ]

You're kidding.

I wanted to tell you so many times. I'm sorry. [Sorry he lied, but maybe more sorry for who he is.]
