Who: Pavel Chekov and anyone!
Broadcast: Fleetwide
Action: Tourist and/or Iskaulit
When: From the Great Shuffle through July
[video]
It was kind of our hosts to give us gifts after keeping us on the Marsiva and making us share far, far too much with each other, but...
[The Russian pulls his lovely gift basket into view. In addition to the candies and fudge and pickled herring (he is grateful for all of these things, thank you space hosts), there are a few additional items that he is less amused by.]
Did anyone else find their choice in gifts, er... slightly insulting?
Although it was thoughtful of them, I admit, to provide a shirt [it says "I <3 bad boys," for the Russian speakers out there] for my girlfriend to wear once I grow her.
[Sarcasm. That was definitely sarcasm.]
[action]
[If Pavel isn't poking around his quarters on the Tourist, then he's going for a run on the Iskaulit. In either case, he is making no real effort to be sociable. It's not that he doesn't want to talk to people, it's just that there are a lot of things that he doesn't want to talk about. Everyone knows that the only sure way to avoid certain topics of conversation is to avoid talking entirely.
Any attempts on his part to keep quiet will fail miserably if he's approached. Being a person who likes other people is so hard sometimes.]
[ooc: If you, like me, wanted to do ALL of the Calibration things but grossly overestimated your ability to do so, you're welcome to browse Chekov's memories and handwave your character seeing any of the unmarked ones.]

[The Enterprise crew is, of course, widely admired and celebrated, but Chekov gets a pass on most of it. He usually doesn't regret that.]
If this helps, I doubt that you will be stuck here forever. This is my third time in a place like this; if the others can be escaped, then I see no reason to believe that this one cannot be eventually.

[ She gets it far too often, honestly. She'd like to think anyone else in her position and with her resources and abilities would have done the same things that she's done. It doesn't make walking the halls of HQ any easier, though. ]
I'm pretty sure saying it's your third time somewhere like this isn't really... comforting. I mean on one hand, it's nice to know you can leave, but I don't want this to be the start of something else. I'm too old for adventures not of my choosing.

[He shrugs off her dismissal of his attempt to make her feel better about the situation. There's not a lot of comfort to offer when it comes to being stuck in a reality show in another universe.]
Most people do go home, presumably. I'm an anomaly. [Or just woefully unlucky. Jury's still out.] And I don't believe that you are too old for anything at all.

[ She makes a faint gesture from the place she's in fingers curved as she waves her hand back, almost dismissively, like it's no big deal at all. She appreciates what he's saying but she's grounded somewhere between pessimist and realist right now. ]
Well, here's hoping things go the way you'd like in the future. [ She snorts out a laugh, covering her grin with the back of her hand. ] Well, thanks, but that was more saying that... I'm kinda done with shit I don't get to choose. 'course, I'm her and I didn't choose it so it's more like... saying it like it gives me that power or something? Something like that.

Thank you. I am not optimistic, but I appreciate the thought. [He's clearly pleased with himself for making her laugh even though being trapped in a reality show in another universe is no laughing matter.] Ah. Random space adventures are much more acceptable when they are random space adventures that you have the power to go on or not go on. I enjoy random space adventures and even I agree with that.

Wish I had something more cautiously optimistic to add to it. Least there are good people here. [ The thing about the other universe -- space -- part is what really unnerves her. Even if she punched and kicked and shot her way to freedom, how exactly would she even get back home? It's a thought that hangs around, but she tries not to indulge in. ] Guess that goes for any kind of adventure. Control is key.
[ She doesn't like not having control over things. It wasn't always quite like this, but lately it's harder. ]
