No, I've been lucky enough to evade that particular... benefit?

[She gives him a little smile.]

I'm not used to it at all. We don't have situations like this at all, at least, not in Starfleet.

I didn't have the heart to refuse them. [ Maglor confesses ]

So I have a few of the little cards, now. If you are interested in anything music related, let me know!

[personal profile] musicalhost 2017-08-05 05:21 am (UTC)(link)
[Oh, Maglor.] Luckily, I've had a few lives where I was much harder than I am now. So I just drew on them.

I was a musician in another life, so I can be tempted. And I bought a Trill piano on those asteroids we visited.

[personal profile] bythewaves 2017-08-05 02:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Fortunate! I am, apparently, just too easy to persuade where it comes to music. What is a Trill Piano, if I might ask?
musicalhost: (hopeful)

[personal profile] musicalhost 2017-08-06 04:41 am (UTC)(link)
It's not too different from a regular piano but we designed ours a little differently. You're welcome to visit the Caprine and see it.
bythewaves: (Arnold smile)

[personal profile] bythewaves 2017-08-06 02:18 pm (UTC)(link)
I would love to, if you do not mind! I might beg for a performance!
musicalhost: (hopeful)

[personal profile] musicalhost 2017-08-07 02:44 am (UTC)(link)
You're always welcome! And I can't promise any real skill, Joran was a few lifetimes ago. I'm still not quite as dexterous as he was.
bythewaves: (Arnold grin)

[personal profile] bythewaves 2017-08-07 04:55 am (UTC)(link)
I'm sure you'll do fine. [ Maglor smiles ] Besides, not knowing the instrument, nor the style, I have no real way of knowing, do I?
musicalhost: (smile)

[personal profile] musicalhost 2017-08-07 05:25 am (UTC)(link)
You know the piano at least, I'm sure. There's not to large a difference.
bythewaves: (Arnold smile)

[personal profile] bythewaves 2017-08-07 02:27 pm (UTC)(link)
I do - although I will have to take your word for that! But we can do that the next time we take to the stars, as I do not wish to interrupt your shopping, either!
musicalhost: (hopeful)

[personal profile] musicalhost 2017-08-08 03:48 am (UTC)(link)
I'm mostly just finding clothes, honestly. I'm used to going without a lot since I joined Starfleet, even more since I was Joined. Too much chance of moving around and transfers.
bythewaves: (hm?)

[personal profile] bythewaves 2017-08-09 09:48 am (UTC)(link)
That would make taking large things difficult. [ Maglor nods ] Do you make your own clothes as well?
musicalhost: (hopeful)

[personal profile] musicalhost 2017-08-10 05:29 am (UTC)(link)
Make them, no. Goodness no! On Deep Space Nine, there's a tailor but Garak isn't the only way to get new clothes. We can use replicators to make uniforms or clothing.
bythewaves: (Arnold smile)

[personal profile] bythewaves 2017-08-10 05:58 am (UTC)(link)
Replicators... I believe Dr Crusher mentioned those. They sound a most fascinating instrument. Are they capable of replicating anything, then?
musicalhost: (hopeful)

[personal profile] musicalhost 2017-08-10 06:44 am (UTC)(link)
Just about. You can't replicate poisons, for example. Or, most Starfleet vessel replicators don't allow for it. And if it's too complex, on a molecular level, they can't do that.

[Ezri, you're probably babbling a whole other language to him...]
bythewaves: (alone)

[personal profile] bythewaves 2017-08-10 08:27 am (UTC)(link)
As a safety feature, you mean? Does that apply to weapons, too? And what are molecules?
musicalhost: (neutral)

[personal profile] musicalhost 2017-08-11 04:38 am (UTC)(link)
Basically, yeah. And they can do weapons. It gets logged in the system, especially regarding some types of weapons, but it's handled on a case-to-case basis sometimes.

[She really has to give some thought on how to explain molecules. Thank goodness for a couple lives as scientists. Actually... that doesn't help too much.] Gosh, most of my explanations are more scientific than anything.
bythewaves: (alone)

[personal profile] bythewaves 2017-08-11 08:57 am (UTC)(link)
That is an interesting distinction, to ban poisons but not weapons, or well. Not all weapons.

[ He laughs softly ]

Sorry - but I fear my folk were only just beginning the fine details of such things before we slipped into war. You'll have to keep it simple.
musicalhost: (neutral)

[personal profile] musicalhost 2017-08-11 08:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Some people collect weapons, I haven't really heard of anyone collecting poison. And Starfleet does need weaponry at times, we don't need poison.

[Give her another moment before she tries explaining it as simply as she can. Because the mun is dumb.]
bythewaves: (Arnold grin)

[personal profile] bythewaves 2017-08-12 02:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Wouldn't a replication of a weapon not be as valuable as the real thing, in that case?
musicalhost: (not so sure)

[personal profile] musicalhost 2017-08-19 05:03 am (UTC)(link)
You would think but having an original, from the planet it was built on, make my hand, with original material, people will pay a lot for them over a replicated version.

[And some weapons just aren't made anymore so there's no other way to collect one.]
bythewaves: (hm?)

[personal profile] bythewaves 2017-08-19 02:35 pm (UTC)(link)
It just seems odd to have the ability to make replicas so easily, I suppose. Are they so easy to tell apart from the originals?
musicalhost: (hopeful)

[personal profile] musicalhost 2017-08-25 04:58 am (UTC)(link)
Welcome to the twenty-fourth century? [Amused smile.] Usually though, atomic decay, I suppose. Model numbers, age in general.
bythewaves: (hm?)

[personal profile] bythewaves 2017-08-25 05:14 am (UTC)(link)
What is atomic decay? [ The other things make sense ] And I suppose the authentic ones would have a maker's mark?
