_{[ Kirk growled and the ad finally seemed to get the message, or timed out. Either way, the ad vanished and Kirk could finally see fully beyond it to the rest of the beach. He caught Riona's eye and gave her a tense little smile. ]}

Even if it doesn't do anything, the yelling makes me feel better.

I suppose there's some satisfaction to be gained at yelling at inanimate objects.. [Oh, she gets it, but she'll needle a bit here. It's a good opportunity to get her mind off of things.]

At least makes you feel like you did something right?

_{[ He came over to her, his smile suddenly turning mischievous. ]}

Like suggesting threesomes.

[Admittedly, it takes Riona a really long moment to figure out what in the fuck Kirk is talking about. During that time, she just... stares at him, frowning and trying to decide if he's laying some odd insult into her.

Then she remembers - as much as she can - her conversation with Fenris. Her eyes go wide, and her mouth drops.]

Oh Maker preserve me. He actually - oh no. [FENRIS WHY] He told you about that? I was kidding! Okay well, not entirely, but I was drunk at that point! I never thought he'd take it seriously!

_{[ He waits, still smirking, though there is a tremble of worry in him. Did she not remember? Or was she not the one who had said it? He was sure Fenris had said Riona was the one to give him the idea... Ah, and now he can see the recognition dawning and he cannot help but laugh. A full bodied thing with a wide open mouth and flashing teeth. ]}

It's Fenris! Of course he took you seriously! Though, I can't say I'm sorry for it. It... brought certain things to light.

Considering how much the man drinks, you'd think he know the line when you should stop listening to when someone's been drinking! Ugh. And I shouldn't have gotten so drunk.

[No more drunken heart to hearts where advice was being dispensed. Lesson learned.

However, that last bit gets her to raise her brow.]

So he told you?

_{[ He nodded. ]}

We talked about it, and I think things have worked out for the best. Or, at least, they've moved to a better place than they were.

I suppose I owe you for that. Maybe not a drink though.

Oh? So, you two talked things out? [Good!! This seems like things are progressing well!] All three of you are okay with things... proceeding?

[Hey, if Marian's down with it, then Riona's more than happy for them all.]

_{[ All three? Kirk wished he had hid the slight surprise on his face
about that. Or no, it wasn't surprise. It was the blank look of someone
searching for a quick answer when they had none prepared. ]}

Well, I personally have not spoken to Marian, no.

_{[ Which was not a lie. He had not. He barely saw her, in fact. ]}

[That look doesn't get past her. The eyes and the face tell more than words usually do, and it's a lesson Riona's learned time and time again during her time in court. What court also taught her is to pay attention to not just what's said, but how it's said. And also what ISN'T said. And Kirk's answer is... very specifically worded. And she does not like the implication it might bear. Her smile slowly falls.]

I see. [Her tone remains neutral, if not a bit clipped.] While I didn't think she'd be a part of that conversation, I would have at least thought that there would have been some mention. An assurance that she was okay with however far along things will proceed, given that you both know Fenris is in a relationship with her. [Her frown deepens ever so slightly.] Or that you would have thought to ask. She's on your ship, too, no?

When Fenris and I had our discussion it was about our own feelings for each other. I knew he was in a relationship with Marian and nothing happened then. We talked, both about us and about possible ways to move forward.

_{[ His tone is taking on an equally clipped tone. He knew Riona was
Fenris' friend, but he didn't actually owe her any explanations into or
about his love life or relationship with Fenris. ]}

She is on it, but I don't actually see her much, as I said. Her even moving onto my ship was a surprise.

_{[ As in he hadn't known until he'd checked the roster on a whim and
seen her name. ]}

[Either Kirk really doesn't know if Marian knows, or he's trying to cover for Fenris. Or maybe a bit of both. While Riona can understand protecting someone he cares about, it's really not helping matters.]

And I understand that. I'm not prying to be some insufferable gossip, Kirk; I'm trying to look out for Marian. Whether you like it or not, she's a part of this, and if you and Fenris plan on moving forward with a relationship and she hasn't been informed, then that is incredibly awful.

[And she wants to add "And I hope you'll feel like shit if she's in the dark" but right now, she can't prove either way whether or not Marian knows. Kirk's not responsible for that.]

But that's a conversation I need to have with Fenris then, since he didn't tell you and you didn't feel obliged to ask. I really, really hope he told her. [If he did, then she'll apologize. If he didn't, well...]

_{[ The truth is that he doesn't. He had assumed that Fenris had sorted things with her, one way or the other, and had not given it much more thought. He trusted Fenris, after all, and it wasn't his place to pry or try to sway whatever happened between him and Marian. Kirk, for himself, could only try to be as good to Fenris as he could, in whatever capacity Fenris would have in him in.

Said capacity had taken a very more intimate turn recently, and he wasn't sorry for it. Despite Riona's attempt at a guilt trip, he remained unmoved, trusting in Fenris' judgement. ]}

I didn't feel obliged because I trust him. And if he didn't, that's a conversation he and I can have on our own.

_{[ But was he confident that Fenris had spoken with her, to some capacity. ]}

[She's a bit mollified that he'll speak with Fenris further if Marian doesn't know. What that conversation will entail, she won't ask, but at least one will happen.]

If he did and it turns out I'm overreacting, you'll get an apology from me and I'll step off. [Maker, she really hopes she is.] I want all three of you to be happy. There's just a lot of potential for things to go really sideways really quickly. And you know how difficult it can be for Fenris if things get emotionally volatile.
