Us younger guys took you seriously. [It pops out of Cloud's mouth before he blinks and realizes it was true. The memories he'd gotten back when he saw Zack are still jumbled, still a tangle mess of images and voices, of things that he's not sure happened, but he remembers that with certainty.] You were a hero to a lot of the guys in my squad. Might not count as much as a superior's opinion, but it's not like everybody thought that.
no subject
Nnnn... counted. It still counted. For a lot. I got to be... for you guys, what he was for me. Was proud of that. It made me happy.

He listens to it, closing his eyes. The liquor makes his tongue a little looser, makes his thoughts a little heavier, but they come and go like the ebb of the tide and don't feel so suffocating, for once.] An' I said I was sorry...when I shoulda said 'thank you.'
no subject
You already thanked me, man. So you're welcome an' all, but don't go overboard.
[His head shifts a bit, edging closer, expression hidden beneath too much hair.]
No regrets about you. Not a one. Promise.

[Or counting, whatever. Same difference.]
....did y'know you saved me, too?

When we were on a mission! You might not remember, but I was still pretty young, not the cool-headed guy I am now.
[Feel free to laugh at that one, his ego can probably take it.]
We were fighting monsters, and I wasn't paying attention- put away my sword before checking first. Big ol' buzzard showed up and woulda squashed me flat if you hadn't shot it. You watched my back.
no subject
Nope.] I don't remember. But you were a SOLDIER anyway, right? You woulda been fine.
no subject
Cloud, I hate to break this fabulous mental image you have of me, but SOLDIERs aren't actually invincible.

Is it so hard to believe that somebody actually relied on you before you got all SOLDIER-fied?

[He knows Cloud's right, but he's too drunk and salty to accept it at face value.]

Honestly, Cloud has plenty of other shit to be angry about. Getting ignored during his childhood ranks so low] Anyway, it's not the case now, so don't get all worked up about it.
no subject
[Whatever, it's not important. What's more important is being comfy, which is why he shifts once more to let himself slide down and rest his head on Cloud's thigh, legs slinging over the arm of the bench. Ahhhh, that's better.]

[CLOUD HE WAS SO COMFY
as revenge for the prodding he goes straight-up limp, leaning his whole dead weight on Cloud. He's strong enough to take it, but it's probably annoying. Take that, you spoilsport.]
