The alien narrowed his eyes, all of them, and squeezed its tentacles around Merlan's neck a little more, hard enough that she started to choke. His voice was garbled and high pitched, angry as he bodily shook her.

"Oh come on," she said in disbelief, her voice definitely strangled. He wasn't going to murder her but he was pretty pissed that he had Kirk in his personal space as well.

Angry alien.

Wonderful.

The anatomy of her aggressor was really weird. He had hands that he wasn't using and a hard shell-like substance protected his chest. Kicking that seemed like it was a really bad idea and who knew what his species had for gonads, so she wasn't sure where to strike to get this thing off her. Her gut said to go for the throat but it was a difficult target. If she missed, well, it would probably be pretty painful.

Choking or pain? Not really much of a difference. As he turned to make unintelligible screeling noises at Kirk, she seized the chance and delivered a swift, sharp, jab to the alien's throat. His reaction was to violently puff up into a cacophony of colours and immediately throw Merlan into the wall.

And then he lunged for Kirk.
