[Hey, Chekov and punching bags have a history. One retaliated against him not so long ago. He may never recover from the embarrassment of being hit in the face with an inanimate object in front of Natasha.

Chekov pauses and stills the swinging bag.]

I haven't sparred with a partner since the Academy. If you are willing to be patient with me then I would prefer that, yes.

[The he must do what he must against the scourge that are punching bags. Fenris lets out an amused little hum.]

I am sure I can manage that. I will do my best to not break anything.

[Thank you, you understand.]

I will do the same. [He doesn't for a moment think that he's in any danger of beating Fenris up.

Although he doesn't really remember how the sparring thing works--it wasn't a subject that he focused on or excelled at, as shocking as that might be--putting his fists up seems like a good place to start.]

How deeply considerate of you.

[Fenris is clearly humouring him, but he's glad for this. He doesn't deign to spar with most people- aware life has put him at a distinctly unfair advantage. But he makes exceptions for the scant few he likes. Lucky Pavel.

He moves over, raising his own fists- thankfully without his pointy gauntlets.]

Let's see what you have.

I try to be a considerate person.

[But now he's Extremely Serious because this is an Extremely Serious thing. Slightly less serious than it could have been if the pointy gauntlets had joined the party.

Pavel immediately goes in for a punch, keeping one fist up to protect his face. He's fast and he's sturdier than he looks, but he's not at all practiced or subtle.]

[Fenris can see it coming a mile off, but Pavel is, at least, not completely hopeless. Just young- a little tweaking and he'll be fine. Fenris raises his arm to block him, not going on the attack himself yet. He's observing. ]

You have a good, solid stance.

Thanks to Natasha. She reminded me.

[He knows he should hang back, but action is currently a lot more important to him that strategy. Pavel strikes out with a quick jab that, while slightly less obvious than his first attempt, still isn't much of a surprise.]

I see. That is good teaching on her part.

[He does, indeed see it coming. But hey, he'll be nice and duck it this time, as if Pavel almost got him. Good job, slugger, etc. ]

[You're a good dad, Fenris.

Since Pavel misinterprets Fenris' generosity as a sign that he's getting somewhere, he immediately follows up with what has to be the most predictable punch in Fleet history.]

[He tries, he tries.

Fenris lets out a sigh raising an arm up to block it. ]

You're allowing your head to let me know where your punch is going. Try to focus less on where you are aiming your punch.

[He steps back, fists still up.]

Show me what focusing less looks like?

[wolfuncaged]

[He nods, shifting stance. When his punch comes, it comes not from where he's looking- Fenris seems to punch out of pure instinct, his eyes are remaining on Pavel's own fists.

...At least he's trying not to punch hard, in case Pavel doesn't catch it. ]

[Even though Pavel fails to execute anything resembling a successful block, he dodges instinctively and misses the brunt of Fenris' punch. If nothing else, he has quick reflexes.

He frowns, annoyed at himself for letting it land at all.]

That I did not see coming. Have you ever missed entirely?

[At least he didn't end up getting it full force, good job kiddo. He chuckles. ]

On occasion. When I was still learning, and even now, I can still miscalculate. It is simply a case of being able to react quickly to right it when you do.

I find it difficult to imagine you miscalculating. [Miscalculating seems beneath Fenris' dignity somehow.

Pavel takes up a fighting stance again and keeps his eyes focused on Fenris' shoulder as he throws a punch in the general direction of his face. There's not much force behind it, but it is far less obvious than his previous attempts.]

Everyone does it, no matter how practised they are. Assuming you will not, is a good way to get yourself killed. The better thing is to learn how to recover quickly after a miscalculation.

[Good job, Pavel, that one almost hit him, he even looks impressed. You even get a smile! ]

Excellent! That's much better.

I try not to miscalculate. People sometimes die when that happens.

[A... a smile? From Fenris? Pavel can't help but be a little pleased with himself in spite of his solemn mood (and statement). He smiles back.]

Thank you. Maybe someday I will be able to hold my ground against something that is not an inanimate object.

And that is best avoided, I find.

[He can be pleased, it's like the best reward ever! ]

With practise, I am sure you can. If you ever wish to train with me, you need but ask.

I would like to do that... as your schedule allows, of course.

It is rather busy currently- taking care of the bar while Nami is...wherever she is.

[And next month it's gonna get busier when Kirk takes a nice, long nap. ]

But I would very much like that. I would rather you be able to really take care of yourself in a fight.
