Ugh.
[ Kai’s been…out of it for a while, out of sight and mind in a coma. He’s showered and changed his clothing at least, gotten rid of the layer of dust, but he still looks like he hasn’t had a sufficient amount of coffee for the current day. ]
At least I don’t have any new memories or scars this time around.
Though I guess that means I’m a little short on stories.
[ Not really, since he’d been around for calibrations. Still those were hardly all pleasant, though some of them — like how he got his cat, Newt, were nice enough. ]
Do people have pets here? How’d you get them? [ He remembers Daenerys’ dragon, when he’d first started. ] …Besides the pet rocks. Those are dumb.

I had one of the little fuzzy slug beings, for a while, but he liked the dark forests a few stops back, so I left him behind. I know my captain has a pet.

Was your creature native to that land, or did you introduce a new invasive species?

It seemed to be quite familiar to the glowing trees - which were themselves in a large greenhouse. I suspect it was where it came from, a world very similar.

So you think pets wouldn't be happy in space?

Some might be, but I think the confines of a metal ship do not suit all of them.

That reminds me of a question. Are elfin where you're from bothered by iron?

No - that would be terribly impractical, especially considering many of us are smiths!

[ Kai is completely and totally prepared to leave it at that, then, but it seemed weirder than any other of the differences he'd found between the elfin from his world and the others he'd encountered here. ]
There's bronze, and once the iron's worked into steel it's usually different enough.

Iron burns the skin of the elfin, where I'm from, and even just being around it can make them feel sick.
