[Cole doesn't usually sleep, so waking up is very unfamiliar. He doesn't usually feel the cold or heat much, so the deep coldness in his bones is alien.

He jerks upright with a gasp, hands scrabbling at the back of his neck and then he vanishes in a puff of black-green smoke and reappears in the corner of the room, pressing himself back into it, staring around with wide eyes.]

Whispering, watchful, wakeful, wondering, where?

[He then spends a while patting things around him like the floor and wall, whispering under his breath.

In all honesty, he'll stay in that room until someone convinces him to leave and go elsewhere. It's not like he has to leave for any reason.]

I don't understand, Solas. I know you have hurts you don't let me see, why did you leave?

[He shuffled closer to the feed, pressing a hand to it.]

Do you want me to not see you? I'll leave you alone if you want me to. I don't want to hurt you. Did you have to go because I hurt you, being different?

[dirth]

Of course I want to see you, Cole. I've never wanted you to stay away from me, you know that.

[ This is so hard - he frowns, careful, wondering how many people are watching this conversation. ]

It's not something either of us are capable of discussing with just these things. You need to see me, don't you? To understand me. We should talk about those matters when we are in person.

[It takes a moment, but Cole nods. He's missing so many of the cues that he normally gets from people and he feels blind and alone, even while talking to people.]

You promise that I didn't do anything to make you leave?

[dirth]

[ He breathes out. Solas understands; being without his own connection to the Fade, without the comfort it brings, has left him edgy too. Having so many people from his world that don't seem to be aware of what he does... That hardly helps. ]

I promise, Cole. There is nothing you could do that would make me want to leave your side.

[killedwithlove]

[Cole clearly thinks on this for a while, quiet and still.]

Will you come see me? When it is possible?

[dirth]

[ He breathes out; acceptance. Enough. ]

When you have your ship. I will make sure that I come to you.

[killedwithlove]

[If anyone Solas knew would be accepting, wouldn't it be Cole? And his acceptance is maybe that tiny bit more precious, because a spirit has to accept but Cole can choose to do it now.]

Thank you. This place is too quiet. In all the ways.

[dirth]

It will be better once you are on a ship, I'm sure.

[ He's softer, now, careful, and when he speaks he admits it; ]

I have missed you.

Can I stay with you?

[Cole crawls up close to the viewer, like getting closer to the image will end the maddening silence, give him some hint to what Solas is thinking, not just showing.]

There is nothing I would like more than that, Cole.

[ His heart hurts. ]

I don't know if they will put us together... If they don't then I will find a way. I assure you.

I don't need much space! And I don't eat. Or sleep. So I won't take anyone else's food. Or their bed. People sleep in beds here too, right?

[dirth]

They do. I have a room you could visit and stay in - perhaps you could help me paint.

I've never painted. Is this like your painting in Skyhold?

[dirth]

Just like the painting in Skyhold. Would you like to help?

Yes, I would. I don't know how to paint though.

[dirth]

Then let me teach you. We can paint whatever you like.
