[video] Someone's on edge
Who: Looma Red Wind and anyone who can still put up with her
Broadcast: Network
Action: Anyone actually awake on the Bishop
When: Early, early in the space-morningwhenever that is
[While most people would be content to, you know, sleep once in a while, it seems like Looma's spending this Drift dealing with a remarkable lack of it. She looks the part too- one does not switch over to getting by on nothing but micro naps over the course of several days without exhausting themselves. Tetramands are apparently no different.
She's sitting in her chair aboard the Bishop, fighting back sleep as best she can while poring over any readout of the ship she can get her hands on. Less than half of it makes any sense to her, but it doesn't have to- she knows what everything should look like, she's just on alert for any suspicious changes.]
I have only been a part of this wretched show for less than one human year, so there is much about our shared enemy that I do not understand. I know that this last occasion was not the first time they have thrown us into one another's memories, but what has been happening recently feels... different.
[Yep, she's another one who wound up getting a strange dream. She's not a fan of it. For one thing, they're not supposed to happen while you're awake. To say it's put her on high alert would be an understatement- her only response was to assume an impending move by the Atroma or, even worse, a complete unknown.]
I have noticed several others have been having strange dreams. I was not asleep for mine.
I must know if the Atroma are responsible, or if there is some new presence toying with us. Have they been behind anything like this in the past? If they have not, I have two concerns.
One: They are plotting something, and changing how they plan to toy with us.
Two: We will soon be dealing with some new threat.
[She's...kind of forgotten where she was going with this, by this point. And for a moment it looks like she's going to nod off in the chair again, before her eyes snap wide again and she regains some measure of focus.]
...any insight would be appreciated. Especially from those of us who have been here long enough to know what to expect. I have been unable to find any satisfactory explanation on my own.

[He'd felt it during his sleep and also when he was practicing beating the crap out of a punch bag in the gym.]

[At this point she can only hope that whoever's responsible quickly realized her mind is Not A Fun Place, and won't intrude again.]
action;
she grabs a couple cups of coffee from the kitchen - give them what they want, it's sophie's first rule! well, it looks like looma wants to stay awake so - coffee, right? and heads to the bridge, holding out a cup at the captain. it's very concentrated, and very sweet. ]
What did you dream about? [ if people can read mind and time travel and be cursed into candelabra form - maybe dreams have meanings, right! ]
no subject
That is difficult to say...
[She'll take the cup with one of her upper hands, the others are a bit occupied- she's trying to keep her head propped up with one, while the lower set continue to move through the various readouts on the ship.]
A planet I am certain I have never visited. And strange beings calling me sister- I do not feel it necessary to explain why I find it unlikely any siblings of mine would go unnoticed.
[One Looma could easily rip apart a tank. Multiple Loomas, well... that would be something very difficult for anyone to miss. The inevitable sisterly fighting would all but require a full military response.
Though it might be hard to focus on that, what with Looma cringing at her first ever sip of coffee. Something she definitely does not agree with, but on the bright side, she is definitely far more awake now. Even if it's not from the caffeine or the sugar content. So, mission accomplished? Sort of?]
Why does anyone drink this?!
no subject
Maybe they're like a cult. [ it is clearly the only solution. she's less troubled by their choice of term than she is by looma's description. what does someone she deems strange look like? ] What'd they look like?
[ she snorts at that response. what, other people's misery is funny! ]
Cuz it wakes you up, keeps you energized, alert, sharp! [ guess who drinks absurd amounts of the stuff. ]
no subject
[...she's keeping the cup though. Since, while awful, it does seem to be working.]
It was difficult to tell what they looked like. Or perhaps that is what they look like. Beings of shadow, with no features to speak of. They appeared as everything else withered or fell into ruin, and seemed to grow stronger for it.
[Her universe was overflowing with alien life, the fact that this was unusual was a bit of an achievement in its own right. Even the occupants of Anur Transyl could be readily identified, and every last one of them fit firmly in the Universal Monster category. Strange shadowy figures were an unknown to say the least, especially ones that appear as a planet dies.]
no subject
[ she nods her agreement. that's totally what looma is saying here, right? she wants to stay awake, coffee's awesome flavor does that for her! and the shitload of sugar parker threw in. the downside is if she stops drinking it, the crash would be bad. but that's easily fixable! you just keep drinking it! ]
Like they're sucking the life off the planet?
[ that's not creepy at all! except it's the opposite. it's super creepy. she glances around her at the shadows. it can't be real, right? it's just a dream. she has weird dreams, they don't mean anything. but a waking dream, shared dreaming, everything about this place gives her the massive creeps. ]
no subject
It is possible. It is far beyond anything I have any experience with, so I cannot say for certain.
We will need to learn more. I do not believe in coincidence, nor do I trust our gracious hosts. There is something at work here, and it is worth investigating further.
Video;
[Are those even THINGS?!!! ]
Anyhoo- I'd put good money on Atroma playing with us. They've got a good track record of that one already. But these singing planets are...weird. The last times we've been there's usually some task we have to do. But we get neat stuff from home, usually.
no subject
[She is clearly not too concerned with the terminology, not that it should be even remotely surprising. She's going to let out a tired sigh here, and prop her head up with one of her fists. It was becoming a bit tedious just trying to stay awake, but until she knew what was going on, she didn't like the idea of taking her eyes off her ship.]
Ordinarily we would be in agreement, Sokka. The Atroma do seem to enjoy toying with us- especially if it should involve gratuitous invasions of privacy. But why target only a select few? Would it not be more to their liking to torment everyone in the fleet?
no subject
You know, I've been wondering that, too. Maybe they can't afford all the resources to hit everyone at once. They've not long had Calibrations, and that must have been a drain on their power. Maybe they just don't have the oomf to hit everyone again just yet.
no subject
Perhaps. But if that were the case, I would expect them to simply bide their time- to wait until they could afford to hit everyone.
[It's what she'd do.]
no subject
Maybe they want to pick us off, one by one. Thin out the herd.
no subject
[She's certain that...most of her crew is competent and all, but she's definitely in a league of her own when it comes to putting up a fight.]
It is certainly what I would do. But I fail to see the benefit of it. One does not begin a campaign without a goal in mind, and I cannot imagine what they might be after. They have already proven they can control these ships at their leisure, and that they may neutralize us as they see fit.
[All those ship fusions and the business with the calibration rooms hadn't gone unnoticed by Looma, after all. Or the implications behind them.]
no subject
[He's counting himself in that, but he is also well aware she could kick the ass of everyone here,
if she so wished to. GIRL POWER, and so on.]
I know, it doesn't make much sense. But why keep us around at all? Maybe they really DO have to entertain someone?
no subject
[Again, it's what she'd do. But part of that was because she tended to be impatient with battles, and she'd jump straight to the good fights given the chance.]
I have no reason to doubt that. I have been forced into participating in a similar show once already. I am still trying to decide which of the two is worse.

It was some ridiculous dating show my former betrothed was forced into. We had to compete for his affections- I was completely over him of course, I just didn't like the thought of yielding to a bunch of puny weaklings.
[She didn't win though, but at least no one else did.]
Apparently the host fed off our misfortune. Literally. And threw anyone eliminated into the Null Void, so that he could continue feeding while the show was off the air.
["Eccentric" might have been a little too mild a word choice, here.]
Obviously, his plan did not end well.
no subject
I hope you kicked his ass.
video
[He gives her a long speculative look]
How long have you been awake?
no subject
[Give her a minute to try and tally up the hours, Kaiden]
I have been awake approximately six hours. Until I have discovered the purpose behind these unwanted intrusions, I have no intention of sleeping more than an hour at a time.
[This might not be the greatest plan. Especially several days into said plan.]
no subject
[He raises an eyebrow]
You might want to rethink your end goal, here. Assuming you figure out what's going on, you're not going to be able to do much about it. Sleep is the one battle you're always going to lose.
no subject
I will not risk leaving my crew vulnerable to whatever is behind this. I can afford to sleep once we are no longer operating in the dark as to what is causing this!
no subject
I get it. I really do. And it's admirable that you want to do everything you can to keep them safe...but I don't see how this will help them. They need you rested and ready to fight.
no subject
[One of the advantages of being an angry ball of rage and hate when it comes time to throw down, probably. Willpower takes her a bit further than most, especially when it comes to wanting to throttle the life out of someone.]
Once I am certain it is safe to do so, I will aim for a more restful slumber. But until then, I am not taking my eyes off my ship.
no subject
He lets out a breath of capitulation.]
You know, you remind me a little of someone I knew.
no subject
[aka: Tread. Carefully.]
no subject
He smiles.]
Actually, yeah, it is. Our Commander was a force of nature. Knew better than anyone what we were up against. Had been in the thick of it for years. And when everything was on the line she didn't slow down to rest for more than a moment because we were all depending on her.
video
Was it being hunted by creatures or a planet exploding in fire?
[Keith was on edge and it showed.]
no subject
[It's...it's hard to tell if she's serious. It really could go either way with Looma.]
It was a planet I'd never seen before, and everything was dying. Not from any explosions, just...withering away and crumbling.
There were also talking shadows. Talking shadows that called me sister.
[She really doesn't think she needs to spell out what's wrong with that. No sister of hers would ever be shadow, people like Looma tended to cast them.]
no subject
[A third dream? Another message?]
Did the shadows have any kind of shape to them?
no subject
[Which, really, only sounded a paltry fraction as ominous as it had actually felt at the time.]
They had no recognizable form. But they were growing. From everywhere. I recognized them as a threat- me. Someone who has battled creatures half the size of these ships, and faced beings even larger still.
[It sounded just as ridiculous to her, but that was also part of what made the entire ordeal as worrying as it was. Not only did she have no idea what was going on to cause it in the first place, but something about what she'd seen had somehow reached the level that she'd recognized it as a serious and immediate danger. That could not possibly bode well.]
no subject
Some people are saying we're approaching something called a singing planet. Have you heard of that?
no subject
[She's going to take a brief break here, and just try to rub the fatigue out of her eyes. For what good it would do.]
But I am not inclined to be optimistic about any situation that involves having control over my own thoughts taken from me. It has happened before. It did not lead to anything you would consider pleasant.
no subject
We should keep each other updated, though. The more people working on this, the better chance we have of solving it.
no subject
[She'll take a moment here to send over someone's personal comm code, just as a precaution.]
If I am out of contact for any reason, leave any information you have with Sayid Jarrah. He is my second, and will ensure it reaches me.
