First Spell ☠ Video & Action

Who: Dorian Pavus & You!
Broadcast: Fleetwide
Action: Lyuku & Marsiva
When: 9/13

Video;;
[ Waking up in an unfamiliar place surrounded by unfamiliar things is certainly high on the list of disturbing things Dorian has experienced, on par with seeing a future that should never exist. It takes little time to figure this communicator business out, and somehow, he knows how to operate it despite never having seen it. Mark number two for 'this place is disturbing'. After a while, he opens the communicator and turns on the video feed. That is a very well-manicured mustache.. ]

From what I understand, and feel free to correct if I'm mistaken, but we've been spirited away by a seemingly-benevolent entity. Furthering that, we are given information that, by all accounts, should be impossible, yet here we are!

[ This entire tirade is complimented by a wide flourish, gesturing to his surroundings. ]

What, you thought that was simply the beginning? Turns out, we visit entirely different places, and this one happens to have something happening to it. A might convenient, I daresay. Oh, but let's not forget, we're entertainment! Steal the spotlight, win the show and get to leave. Sounds simple enough, but has this actually happened to anyone you are aware of?

Lyuku;;
[ The streets are colorful, if not a bit crowded, but not unpleasant. It's difficult to not want to spend hours winding through the stalls of the bazaar. He has a few credits to spend, but Dorian doesn't feel the immediate need to part with them in case there is something that strikes his fancy at the end. However, that won't stop him from browsing and trying to get a better deal. Maybe he stops to feed a strawberry to one of those dragonesque lizards. Definitely not picking it up, though. It can stay right where it is. He could also be found perusing the more mystical wares- tables of crystals and bottled herbs that he's absolutely unfamiliar with but intrigued by. ]

Fortune Telling;;
The beck and call of a few extra credits doesn't elude him, though really he doesn't see how he has the 'look' of a fortune teller- and he would have had half a mind to be offended had she meant anything by it. The orange-skinned woman had wanted a bit of shut eye, so Dorian finds himself sitting under a canopy surrounded by lots of musty tapestry and gleaming strands of beads. The crystal ball and stack of cards could be laughable. If he weren't superb at being incredibly charming. ]

I have a good sense about your future, care for a reading?

Wildcard;;
[ Hit Dorian up with something else! On the Marsiva, seeing the sights? Sure! ]

[ooc note: those who wish to make TDM threads canon and want to continue, feel free!]

Yes, Varric told me all about that, as the Inquisitor told him. Foolish wasn't quite the word he used.

[That comes with a wry smile. Varric had actually called it a 'pile of magical horse-shit', a sentiment which - knowing what could have happened - Adalwolfe doesn't fault him for.]

What, you think it's some kind of magi-technology? I mean, that's possible. This planet for example, they use both, even if it is for frivolous and somewhat inaccurate fortune telling.

[Magic has so many better uses. Like blasting your enemies across a battlefield or... Maker, even heating your bathwater is a better use than divination. Maybe. Or maybe he's just sour because it's hardly used in most Thedosian countries to any great effect and so everything goes to pot without any warning, especially for him.]

I'm rather interested in how anyone does that, honestly. I grew up an apostate so I never really had the chance to actually study magic beyond what my father taught me. Instead I just sort of... make it up as I went along. Nothing so organized as the Circles, much less the Imperium.

[He doesn't seem terribly bothered by timeline shenanigans. Old hat by now.]

If you have the society for that sort of thing. It's not as if in the Southern Chantry ever promoted any real study to further magical discovery in the Circles. Too worried about mages escaping to think that maybe a lot of us just want to help people with our Maker-given craft.

[It's a very sore spot, though understandably so Adalwolfe thinks. He knows he sounds like Anders when he starts to talk like this and it makes him just a little warm inside. He did learn quite a bit from Anders' crusade instead of just worrying about himself and his sister being found out. There's a greater plight that southern mages face and he'd found himself in a position to do something about it. So he had. He'd not wanted to go about it exactly the way Anders had been forced to - and Wolfe is certain that he'd been forced to, even as complicated as that was - but he can't deny that the desire for some sort of catalyst had been there ever since he'd met the spirit healer.]

It must be easier in Tevinter with the entire institution nourishing the gift of magic instead of stifling it.

[Not that he thinks Tevinter is any sort of magical promised land; he's killed enough slavers and listened to Fenris froth enough to know better, but that doesn't mean he still doesn't wish for bits of it to be commonplace. The idea of the Circle towers as a place of learning, like an actual school instead of a prison, is an incredibly inviting one.]

There are always going to be downsides. I'd take disappointment over Tranquility any day.

[He sounds quite sour over that, mostly to cover up the very real fear of that punishment. Even knowing that Thedas will eventually be in the hands of a Divine who agrees at just how barbaric it is, it still hangs a heavy threat.]

I'd have given my left nut for access to any real library. Money helps, of course, but to hunt down magical texts even somewhere as often depraved as Kirkwall is like asking for the Templars to pay a visit and go through your accounts.

[Wolfe's gotten so into this conversation that he's completely forgotten he was sort of trying to keep his identity a secret. Whoops.]
