the veil is thin . . .
[ On the night of the 16th, the feeling of tension and horrid anticipation comes to a head. Everything stops when the sun goes down-- even the ever-present music in the hoppingest part of the city center. One by one, everyone turns their eyes to the skies. The young and old alike pour out of their houses, some in bare feet, and they point to the velvety blanket of stars.
It takes a second to find it, especially if one is unaccustomed to the starscape. But even a casual observer can see it.
A brightly-shining star, larger than the others, and growing larger.
An announcement cuts across all communication channels that encourages people to evacuate to the space station, but it’s clear that these are just people and they’ll need some help. Supplies, equipment, organization, there’s something for everyone to do.
Civilization is disrupted by a panicked stampede of people vying for limited seats aboard spacefaring craft. Within hours, there will be crushed glass, looting, and chaos.
The clock is ticking. Will you help? Or would you rather watch the dying gasps of a Singing Planet from a safe distance? ]

C
and he's wearing himself far too thin. This...is more difficult than he anticipated. He was already herding another family towards a shuttle when he heard Riona's cry for help.]
Keep heading to the shuttle and go!
[With that, he races off in her direction, heart in his mouth- terrified. He can't lose her, too. He just can't. When he finds her, he practically skids to a stop beside her, worry and panic clear in his expression.]
Keep still, I need to take a look at it.
no subject
Some shitheel shoved me out the window!
[She hisses as she stops moving, clutching her broken arm tightly to her chest.]
Family's inside. They have a child. I was trying to get her out when someone grabbed me.
no subject
[Jackass. He frowns looking up. ]
Okay, I'll try and get her out. Once she's safe, we're getting you back to the ship though, okay? You need to be looked at.
no subject
[Ugh. And ow. Piss and shit, she had forgotten how much glass hurts when it's sticking out of you.]
Yes, yes I know. Just go. Hurry. And be careful, they're obviously not afraid of getting physical.
no subject
[He nods and heads up into the house. There's a considerable amount of banging and clashing. The some silence.
He dead?
...Nah, he's not. Sokka comes running out, kid under his arm, and the sounds of angry people coming after him. He puts the kid down and nudges him along towards the nearest shuttle.]
RUN RUN AND DON'T LOOK BAAAAAAACK.
no subject
oh well look at that. He's fine. And running like a mad man.]
What did you do?! [Glad the kid's okay and running away as told, but uh, now they got people after them.]
no subject
I might have suggested a couple of them have uh...the brain-cells of an amoeba. I'm not sure if they know what one is, but they took a lot of insult from it and I'm like ninety-nine per cent sure they want to punch us now.
no subject
Well I'm not exactly in any shape to punch back, and I think I hear them coming, so we need to move. Fast. Or as fast as I can limp, I guess.
no subject
C'mon, maybe we can duck into an alley or something. Until they've gone.
no subject
Okay. [A brief glance around reveals a side street just down the road between some shops.] How about that? I'll hobble as fast as I can.
no subject
That'll work. Try not to hurt yourself more than you are already, huh?
no subject
[But she'll do her damnedest. The voices get closer and so Riona starts to move, half leaning, half dragging Sokka along as they move towards the side street. She constantly glances over her shoulder, watching for the parents to come out. And they do, just as they duck down the street.]
Shit. I hope they didn't see us.
no subject
[Har de har har. He keeps still, rooting around at his back, pulling out his boomerang. He tilts it a little, pointing it around the corner- a reflection of the house just about visible in the blade. He squints at it as they look around. ]
I don't think they did?
no subject
Except she's not because OW. But to the point: she's trying not to grimace and keep a look out as well for them, hoping it doesn't end in a confrontation. She listens.
There's a bit of a debate amongst them about where to go and look. One insists they saw them go down the side street, but the other say otherwise. Eventually, the lone one is overruled and they proceed in another direction.]
Sounds like they're going away.
no subject
Well, that was a close one. Let's not...do that again. [He casts her a concerned look. ] And now, we need to get you back and get you healed up.
no subject
[She nods, trying to move her arm and immediately wincing when she does.]
Yeah, before I bleed out or something. That doesn't seem like fun.
no subject
[Let's make a move, that worry is only deepening.]
Wow, do I wish Katara was here, she could fix that up in no time at all.
no subject
[Preferably Anders, if only because he can close it up and it'll be quicker than what Shay can do as a medic.]
Is your shuttle far?
no subject
[He may be a SCIENCE GUY but he is not so foolish as to ignore the help healing can do. ]
It's not far. Just around that next corner and a bit, really. Think you can make it? Or I could go bring it to you.
no subject
[Which she hates having to admit, as someone who takes pride in being able to defend herself in others. But she's not going to be doing any sort of defending in the state she's in.]
no subject
[They are crazy and dangerous and he'd much rather her be where he can defend her if he needs to- as much as he knows that would bruise her pride. Better that, than the alternative. ]
Come on, let's go.
no subject
no subject
C'mon, let's get you to help.
