Cyril's welcome to the Fleet was wrought with the despair of losing a planet and the people left on it. He can tell that things are tense even though he's new. This means that he needs to deal with the sudden appearance of information in his mind while also navigating the grief of others. It's a very strange welcome for many reasons.

He isn't sure what he thinks of this place. There's so much he has to take in right away. He has to deal with learning about space travel, different worlds, and technology so far outside of anything that could be found on Thedas. He's impossibly curious about it all, but because of the lingering feeling around the Fleet he isn't sure if now is the time to ask questions.

Instead, he focuses on getting settled. When he was brought here he had on the clothes he wore around High Town, a nice tunic and pants - as well as a prosthetic that was a hand carved out of polished wood rather than any of his functioning ones. He'd have to see about rebuilding something that would be of use when he was piloting. The fake hand was very well crafted and designed to put people at ease, but it didn't let him grip anything easily. However, that could come later - along with all of his questions.

[Cyril doesn't seem to realize that he's accidentally started a broadcast. He is closed up in his new room and he had meant to try to get his Sending Crystal to work, but instead it is useless in his hand. The Fleet, however, seems to think that this means he's okay with his message being brought to people here instead. After all, the person he's trying to contact is one of them - even if not in the way that Cyril thinks.]

I don't think this is working, but just in case -- [He turns the crystal over in his hand, examining it as if he can will it to start working. He's alone in this room so he has removed the fake arm, comfortable without the weight of it when he thinks he doesn't have people around to gawk at him for missing a limb.] Just in case you can hear me...

I'm well. I'm in one piece - well, excepting the part we already knew was missing. [It's a joke, and he manages to make his voice casual and even smile a bit as he says it.] Please don't worry, my friend. I'll find a way back home.

I'm surrounded by friendly people. Including.... an enchanted clock? I wish you were here. It would be fun to disparage the character of a mage who puts a man's consciousness into a clock.

[Another joke, and another pause.] Please don't leave Tevinter. What you are Maevaris are doing is vital. If you can hear me, get a message to Leliana instead and know that I'm well and working on returning...

[Cyril chuckles a bit.]

I'll keep that in mind the next time I expect you to do the impossible...

[He trails off for a moment and then forces himself to get serious again.]

Anyway, we were talking about Fen'Harel's orb, weren't we? That's why I wanted to see you. There's too much to discuss in regards to that magic.

[ He moves to take the least comfortable seat, hoping Cyril will sit as well. ]

Tell me everything. As of right now, I know frustratingly little and the clock is ticking.

[Cyril does sit, and manages to look very comfortable while doing so.]

Let's see... If you're just after Adamant Fortress...

Well, you'll be pleased to know that we defeated Corypheus. It's... Well, before we could we had to travel to the Temple of Mythal. We found out a lot about my people's history there. And your people, actually.

The war with Tevinter isn't what brought down the elves. We destroyed ourselves. Tevinter came in and finished of off, but we were already in our final gasps as a culture by then.

Oh, good. I had hoped that we didn't die in a blaze of heroism and fail to stop a lunatic from entering the Black City.

That's..honestly surprising. It was always assumed that Tevinter was the main cause, particularly due to the elven artifacts they wanted and mostly succeeded in procuring. Do we know why your people destroyed themselves? Or what the cause was?

The Evanuris.

The ones my people called gods. They were, in reality, extremely powerful mages. They warred and were worshiped. They lived in a world that was both physical and spiritual. At the time, the Fade and Thedas were one in the same.

[He still seems rather comfortable, and is talking about this academically. He doesn't seem particularly affected by the idea that the gods he was raised to believe in weren't real. He's also come to accept the reality of the Fade.]

Eventually they betrayed Mythal, the best of them by all accounts, and in retaliation Fen'Harel created the Veil and trapped them behind it. This fractured their world, stole their immortality, and wounded their culture beyond repair.

I can imagine suddenly not having gods might tear a civilization apart. They have certainly crumbled for less.

[ As much as this sounds like another legend lost to time, this is...plausible. Impossible, but Cyril is telling it as it has already passed. It's a shame that Dorian will likely not remember this conversation when he finally gets back home. Or so he's been told. ]

And then Tevinter swooped in and kicked them while they were down.

[Cyril nods at that, he thinks but keeps the comment 'and enslaved the survivors' to himself. Going down that path might lead to a debate he doesn't currently have the stomach for.]

And Fen'Harel went to sleep, and slept for a very long time. When he woke he was weak and shocked by the state of the world that surrounded him. He had lived in a place where spirits roamed freely and shared their knowledge and experiences with the living. Now, Thedas fears the Fade and those who live in it.

He described it as if he were walking in a world filled with Tranquil.

Eventually, he came up with a plan to open the Veil again and enter the Fade to bring back the Evanuris. That is when he gave the orb to Corypheus.

Rather a melodramatic description, wouldn't you say?

[ If he's honest, he doesn't know what he would do in that situation. Fen'Harel must have been desperate if he gave the orb to a madman..Still, that doesn't excuse it, either. ]

Because Corypheus didn't have an ulterior motive.

This is a person who went by "The Dread Wolf." [He points out, as if a certain level of drama was implicit there.]

Corypheus was supposed to die in the explosion, but then a silly elf distracted him and his ties to a dragon protected him.

[Unconsciously, he hand moves to touch his arm, just above where the prosthetic starts.]

The point is that that magic can open up pathways to another realm. If used properly by a powerful mage at their full ability, it could have brought down the Veil.

And here we find ourselves in another realm, completely separate from Thedas. How is the Veil? Can you sense it here?

...Your points are fair enough, I suppose.

[ Dorian has to seriously consider the question. It's a difficult thing, really. A strange situation they've once again found themselves in. ]

It's strange. By all rights, we should be well away from the Fade. Drawing from it should be all but nonexistent.. However, that's not the case. I'm still fully able to use all of my magic. There is power, but what it is I can't say. Perhaps it is a small piece of the Fade that the Atroma have brought.. Or it's something else entirely.

Are you saying that your abilities could be drawing from a completely different source?

That... that's astounding, if true. Imagine if we could apply that back home? It could eliminate the threat of possession, couldn't it?

[He admittedly only has knowledge of how magic works by listening to the mages in his life. He isn't sure it actually would, but in his mind if you stop relying on the Fade - you stop attracting demons.]

A question for the ages. Without knowing exactly what it is, little can be said of the threats that may or may not lurk inside it. I will have to consult the other mages who reside here to see what their opinions on the matter are. Perhaps it has been spelled out and I've simply not uncovered the information as of yet.

When you perform magic, does it feel any different?

It doesn't, no.

[Cyril makes a 'huh' noise and seems to consider that for a moment.]

Well, that could just be your considerable natural talent shining through.

Though, I admit the lingering sensation in my arm hasn't gone away either, but I'm not sure how much the Anchor's magic would be affected by such things.

[ Ha! ] That could very well be the explanation. I am brimming with natural talent, as you're well aware.

[ Dorian hums, his gaze lingering on the prosthetic arm. ] Then I do wonder if it's the Fade. Especially if you're still able to feel the Anchor's pull.

That you are, my friend.

And I'll say, it's not a pull so much anymore.

It's more an ache now. A reminder that the magic touched me and hasn't left entirely.

[A reminder that it will kill him, eventually.]

Is it a constant ache? [ Are you in pain, friend? ]

I wonder what that means, you being here. Will it continue its course, or is it frozen in time much as we are?

It is... [But he says it as if it is no big deal, Dorian shouldn't worry about it.] I'm handling it.

And I suppose we'll find out, shall we? The augment might be able slow things.

[ He's going to worry because you've made him invested in this, you monster!! Dorian frowns, thoroughly unconvinced. ]

If I'd had the knowledge we'd be stuck somewhere else entirely, I would have had the foresight to brush up on my healing spells. [ It could possibly at least ebb the pain. ]

[Despite how little he likes having people fuss over him, the idea that Dorian would want to heal him is still touching.]

You have time now? I wonder if they have someone to teach healing spells.

I can take the time to learn on my own if the literature is accessible.

[ Listen, he doesn't have a lot of friends, and seeing one in pain is really difficult. ]

Books then. I wish I had access to my resources to track down some good ones.

As do I, my dear Inquisitor. There are a number of books that I'm certain I will be missing.

I wonder what they have as literature up here.
