[Kitty is still in her bedroom where she's been for the past two months when the video opens.]

If the timestamps I'm seeing are right then I'm surprised I don't have a long beard by now. That's a Rip Van Winkle joke for any of the non-earthlings who think maybe I can grow a beard.

So, I'm Kitty Pryde for anyone who just showed up. Just so you know I still have seniority over you. I could take your lunch money any time I want. And hi. Any new mutants? Maybe some Avengers who should be mutants, but they aren't because timelines are funny that way? [Wanda and Pietro were strange, okay?]

I haven't flipped through much of the network yet. Feel free to do a roll call. Let me know you're here—new, old, returned, twice baked, whatever. Did I miss anything fun? Maybe some birthdays? Oh, right, like mine. [She picks up some pretty and unusual stones and nudges an illustrated physics book. She speaks softer.] Maybe someone remembered.

[Scrolling through some old network posts and her eyes widen slightly.] Maybe I missed something not so fun...

[ACTION : TWIN ROSES]
[Her body feels lethargic and uninterested in all this moving she wants to do. But she's been out of commission and she feels the need to catch up. So she'll be looking for crewmates and visitors.]

Um... some stuff happened. A planet kind of got blown up and we helped evacuate everyone? That's mostly it I think?

I'd say I missed him too, but I was pretty firmly sure it was just the next day until I saw it definitely wasn't.

[She takes a breath because she's been holding it together but only just barely and she's not sure if that thread of control is going to hold while talking to Wrath of all people. She also has a strong bond with Kurt. Stronger than any of them were admitting and she's not sure where they are now with Wrath's return since Kitty checked out for two-months herself. But there were feelings there and those don't just disappear even if they did something dumb like not continuing on for fear of getting hurt again. Worse. Deeper.

But that doesn't matter now, does it because Kurt's gone. It still doesn't feel real to her. Maybe she spent so long living in a virtual reality that it feels like that's just their opening hand. He's "dead" for now until they change the game again. Bring him back with no memories or something worse. She's sad to lose him. Adrift without him. Desperate to kick his ass for dying and more so for that unfinished message he sent before he died telling her about every horrible thing he did before.

And yet there are so many people greeting her genuinely happy to see her again that she finds she does smile back. She's happy to see them too even without the gap in time they feel. Maybe it will settle in when she is alone again. When everyone returns to their own concerns and it's just her and her room full of pets and belongings of people who have disappeared.]

I... I heard. I heard about all of it. [She meets Wrath's eyes looking sympathetic.] I'm sorry about Kurt. I don't know how much he ever said, but I know you were very important to him. You were good for him too. [Her voice breaks a bit on that last part.]

It's... really sad. [But she is keeping a positive outlook, dammit, because morale! And... she's lost too damn many people, really.] But I'm confident that he will be back like the person who got eaten by the T-rex on whatever planet that was, so... it'll be okay.

[Okay, that gets a look of surprise. Chekov had mentioned the possibility of them coming back too since people had returned in his last two abduction sites, but as far as Kitty hadn't heard of anything like that in the Fleet. Of course, she also stopped checking after her first month or so here. Nothing dangerous seemed to happen, and the first people she'd asked hadn't known anything like that.]

They did? Are you sure? How long did it take for them to come back? Are they still here? [Just the tiniest edge of desperation to her voice. As much as she wants the hope she also wants to investigate and interrogate it. She wants to see if it holds up.]

They did. I'm sure, cause I remember Vision talking about it too. Um... not so sure about the answers for the other two things though. [And it's obvious she feels really bad about this.] My memory kind of sucks sometimes.

It's okay. [She knows. It's why she's not sure how far she can trust this swell of hope. And yet it's there now.] We'll see what happens when it happens I guess. [If it happens.] Not that I wouldn't love a timeline. It was a lot faster back in Marina.

Yeah. I'm sure it'll happen... eventually.

[Because if it doesn't, then she has to contemplate the whole Kurt Being Dead thing and she's really not ready for that.]

Oh? How fast?

Just a day. For most of the time people just didn't come back at all, but once the cover was blown and we knew it was a virtual reality they just reset people. Sometimes with glitches.

Oh yeah... virtual reality would be way different for that, huh.

Too bad it's not like that here. Maybe. It'd be weird.

[There's a pause. That pause that comes with not being entirely sure she's not still in some kind of shared virtual reality. She couldn't feel the difference then. How hard would it have been to just change the program?] Yeah, definitely different. I guess we'll see what it's like if they come back. [She can't be as hopeful as "when" yet, but she does hope.]

It didn't feel weird before we knew. It felt like life.

Might be worth just like... asking about it on the network? Probably other people have died. I mean. Accidents happen. Might find someone who can tell you how it works from that side.

Makes sense. I mean. Network stuff is really immersive if you do it right. I've been in situations like that before.

Yeah, I might do that. [But she'll end up putting it off, not wanting to lose the hope or upset others in the process if it turns out not to be true.

She's not sure what to do with all these feelings of delayed grief. It's both there and pending.]

Mmm, it is. It's probably hard to imagine how real until you're there. At first thought It could be some kind of psychic intervention I was seeing, but after awhile it was hard to accept it as anything but real.

Probably depends on if you've ever been in a fully-immersive network to neural interface situation? But yeah. When shit is directly in your brain...

Hard to get away from having things directly in my brain apparently. [She's talking about you now, augment.] You had something similar back home?

Yeah, a lot of network stuff was like that. And if Compliance got you...

I mean. I don't know. It's hard dealing with when you don't know if it's you or them, cause when it's inside your head, you kind of assume everything is you.

[She nods thoughtfully.] It's hard not to. Same concern I always have with our augments.

Yeah, you're right. I never really thought of that right now because the kind of stuff our augments do isn't that weird where I'm from but... maybe that's kind of worrying.

I probably worry about our augments and your world enough for both of us. [It's true. Definitely not the first time she's been concerned about what Wrath has been through and about what's happening there. She hated when she disappeared, possibly heading right back into it.]

I mean... it's better to try not to worry at all, though. Since it's not like we can do anything about it?

Mm... I guess I'm not satisfied that all options have been exhausted there. Though I know cutting them out and phasing them out are...trouble. [It was a good thing there were healers around back when she tried.]
