[Kitty is still in her bedroom where she's been for the past two months when the video opens.]

If the timestamps I'm seeing are right then I'm surprised I don't have a long beard by now. That's a Rip Van Winkle joke for any of the non-earthlings who think maybe I can grow a beard.

So, I'm Kitty Pryde for anyone who just showed up. Just so you know I still have seniority over you. I could take your lunch money any time I want. And hi. Any new mutants? Maybe some Avengers who should be mutants, but they aren't because timelines are funny that way? [Wanda and Pietro were strange, okay?]

I haven't flipped through much of the network yet. Feel free to do a roll call. Let me know you're here—new, old, returned, twice baked, whatever. Did I miss anything fun? Maybe some birthdays? Oh, right, like mine. [She picks up some pretty and unusual stones and nudges an illustrated physics book. She speaks softer.] Maybe someone remembered.

[Scrolling through some old network posts and her eyes widen slightly.] Maybe I missed something not so fun...

[Her body feels lethargic and uninterested in all this moving she wants to do. But she's been out of commission and she feels the need to catch up. So she'll be looking for crewmates and visitors.]

Mission accomplished if it was. [Maybe things would have been the same or worse with her there, but she can't help but wondering...]

Agreed. If it does have anything to do with a reality show they have to keep increasing the stakes to keep the viewers interested.

I wonder how long they can do that before they push all of us to our limits? No one is unbreakable.

Maybe that's why there's a steady tumble of new people in and old people out.

In my last place I thought I was there about a year, but after coming here I realized it was probably years, plural. Chekov has the same impression. At the time it seemed like they were experimenting with us every two to three days. The lows weren't as low as destroying an entire planet in front of us, but you could think you were married to someone for a day and then the next day remember your relationship isn't like that with them. It messes with your head. So, I guess what I'm saying is...it can last for awhile.

[Of course, home was probably harder than either one. She wouldn't call herself broken. But she's definitely a little bent.]

...That's terrible. Not even the United Earth did such things to us when they attacked the Initiative. To toy with people's minds as if they are nothing is just...cruel.

[He sighs. He absolutely has been broken, but he was broken long before he went to any other worlds. Danarius did that all by himself. ]

There is always the chance to rebuild yourself- a factor they might not have figured in any of us. That we will just be too damned stubborn to let them beat us.

Some of the time it was just something silly or odd like having rubber duckies everywhere. It wasn't all mind or body bending. [But there was never enough down time to recover.]

Always rebuilding. Always moving forward. Hell, this is Chekov's third kidnapping and I know the first one wasn't much better than Marina. Actually, it was probably worse for him. And he's still such a good, enduring person. [Fond of the guy.]

...Rubber duckies.

[What the actual hell, Kitty? ]

He really is. He has put up with a lot, and I have never known anyone as steadfast as he is. [Even Aveline had blips. Pavel...he seems to be able to endure anything with minimal complaining. ] He must be popular, with worlds such as this.

[Not an enviable position. ]

Just be glad she didn't mention the tribbles day. Or the time it rained fruit punch. God, that was sticky. [Except she did just mention them both.]

Pavel is great. I hope his next stop is home. He's probably ready to retire his popularity.

Tribbles. I have heard those mentioned before. I think they were in Kirk's world.

[They sounded AWFUL.]

I am sure he is, too. I would miss him, but he deserves to go home now, probably moreso than most of us.

They are. [Chekov recognized them when it was happening.] They're kind of adorable if not for the whole drowning in them thing.

Yeah, he does. I don't know if I can bring myself to want him to, but I want him to be happy.

Yes, that does put something of a dampener on them.

As do I. I doubt anyone will be so fortunate, Atroma is not well known for making us happy, after all.

No. I guess that one is on us while they try to make it harder. Like a fun little game none of us wanted or signed up for.

[He huffs, amused. ]

Happiness to spite them. I like it.

You know everything is better with spite. Just like chocolate.

Oh yes. It just makes life that little bit sweeter. I know someone here who could use some of that turned on him from time to time.

[It's Anders. Big surprise. ]

Oh yeah? Who's that? [She sounds ready to join you on your quest.]

[Kitty, you are a good friend. ]

Anders. I do not know if you met him the first time he was here. He's come back.

[Fenris sounds about as pleased as that as someone stating they just got a root canal. ]

[Uh oh.] Yeah, I know him and he called to let me know he was back. I was his captain for a minute before the Windrose ate everyone from the Three Twins except Vash. And when he first arrived he called out for his kitty. How was I going to ignore that? [Hah, hah, funny story. You're amused, right?]

So, you're not a fan?

He likes cats.

[So flat. So unamused. ]

I hate the man, and the feeling is very much mutual. It has been the same for the past ten years or so, back in Thedas.

[FLAMES. FLAMES ON THE SIDE OF HIS FACE. ]

Hate is strong. [And surprising. Anders is... Well, he holds a lot close to the vest so she doesn't know him that well, but he seems sweet. She's always liked talking to him. She also cares about and trusts Fenris.] What did he do?

I know. I don't use it lightly.

[And lo, Kitty kicked the hornets nest. ]

How long do you have? Shall I start with how he continually belittles my past as a slave and is somehow convinced it can't be as terrible as I claim? That he considers me selfish for allowing it to affect my life today? That's a good start, I think.

[He exhales, because he realises he was getting snappy. ]

Sorry. I'm not angry at you. He just- does this to me.

[Gently.] I know. [Well, she doesn't really know since she just found out, but she can tell this anger isn't for her directly. It doesn't entirely make sense to her. It's hard to imagine Anders belitting someone for having something unforgivable done to them. There is a certain amount of having to own your own choices once they are yours to make, but not being affected? That's just not possible. Not by something that cuts that deeply.]

It doesn't matter what the circumstances were. If you were someone else's property then it was terrible.

[And this is the great tragedy. Anders would have perfectly legitimate complaints about Fenris, much in the same ballpark. Varric once told them they were opposite sides of the same coin, and it's horribly true. ]

Try explaining that to him.

[He also blew up a chantry and murdered hundreds of innocent people- while kick starting a civil war that has ravaged their world- but Fenris isn't so much of a dick to spill that one. Not out of any care for Anders, but because he'd rather the people he DOES care about from home not be caught in any of the ensuing drama that information getting out would cause. ]

I just might. Been awhile since I gave a good lecture. [She'd ask his side of things first though.]

I doubt he would appreciate it much, and I would not wish to cause you to lose a friend. As much as I do not like him.

Oh, my friends aren't safe from my lectures. I hope you didn't you were. [She smiles at him.]
