[Kitty is still in her bedroom where she's been for the past two months when the video opens.]

If the timestamps I'm seeing are right then I'm surprised I don't have a long beard by now. That's a Rip Van Winkle joke for any of the non-earthlings who think maybe I can grow a beard.

So, I'm Kitty Pryde for anyone who just showed up. Just so you know I still have seniority over you. I could take your lunch money any time I want. And hi. Any new mutants? Maybe some Avengers who should be mutants, but they aren't because timelines are funny that way? [Wanda and Pietro were strange, okay?]

I haven't flipped through much of the network yet. Feel free to do a roll call. Let me know you're here—new, old, returned, twice baked, whatever. Did I miss anything fun? Maybe some birthdays? Oh, right, like mine. [She picks up some pretty and unusual stones and nudges an illustrated physics book. She speaks softer.] Maybe someone remembered.

[Scrolling through some old network posts and her eyes widen slightly.] Maybe I missed something not so fun...

[Her body feels lethargic and uninterested in all this moving she wants to do. But she's been out of commission and she feels the need to catch up. So she'll be looking for crewmates and visitors.]

I never made that promise. [She's been bad at sleeping ever since Winn left. You know, except for the sleep marathon she just had.

She takes the ornament as he offers it.] A singing planet...yeah, those are usually nice. One of them was my favorite. [The hand-holding planet.] Thank you.

[She looks at him curiously.] Go ahead. Better out than in.

I... well try, for yourself at least. I know it's hard. I can't imagine how hard it is on you, Kitty. _{[And he was about to make it harder. He was relieved he took the ornament. Maybe it would make her happy and not remind her of what he was about to say.]}

Yeah, it was nice.... until it wasn't anymore. A meteor hit it, we got everybody off the planet, it was such chaos... some of us didn't rest at all. It was... I don't know how we did it. We evacuated the whole planet, we did a final role call and we got everyone. It's insane... even I felt the planet's pulse when we left.

Which... brings me to my point. We all worked hard to get people out. Vash and Kurt especially. I couldn't get them to pause for very long... I... _{[Take a breath, Yuri. Slow and simple... don't complicate it. And don't hesitate too long.]}

Kurt didn't make it back with us, Kitty. We lost him on Lyuku. I'm so sorry... I didn't want you to find out over the network. I thought you should have someone tell you to your face. He was teleporting people off the planet to the escape pods... he didn't come back.

[Okay, she's not an actual cat. You can't expect her to be distracted by a shiny object enough to forget her best friend died. But on the plus side...]

Hey, hey, [she reaches out to put a hand on Yuri's shoulder] it's not your fault Kurt's an idiot. A heroic idiot. He did whatever he needed to do. We're X-men. I know the drill. [The drill where she never expected to get old. She didn't expect any of them too and it still hurts like hell when they don't anyway.]

Also, this whole trying to be the one to tell me thing is kind of heroic and idiotic too. Luckily, Chekov got to me first and absorbed the brunt of it. [Not that she's just okay and over it. But she does feel like she's dealing or like it's on pause long enough so that she can deal. There's a lot to unpack.]
