_{[ The video opens to Kirk's bedroom, his hair damp from what one would hope is a shower. A small curl has escaped against his forehead. He doesn't look particularly grim, but he doesn't seem overjoyed to be awake either. ]}

Good morning, everyone. Looks like I'm finally awake. For those who don't know me or possibly forgot I was here given how long I was alseep, I'm James Tiberius Kirk, captain of the Tourist - but just call me Jim.

According to my first mate, I've been asleep for a month. And I've missed quite a bit, as it turns out.

_{[ He took a breath, his voice sounding a touch guilty, even though going into a coma wasn't his choice. ]}

I would appreciate a check in with everyone, especially my crew - new and old members. And if anyone wants to talk, I'm here.

[ Action - Tourist ]
<sub>[ Awake and showered, now he needed coffee. Coffee and a real meal. There had been... distractions, before now. He made his way to the kitchen to see if he could coax the coffee maker into being kind and cooperating for once, and that done he took up a spot where he could look out at the stars gliding by - and hopefully catch anyone else coming and going.

Once he had finished the coffee, he would start a walk around the ship, looking to catch anyone he hadn't already and get a feel back for her. ]</sub>

[ Action - Iskaulit ]
<sub>[ More than anything else he craved exercise. Whatever Atroma did while they were in their comas had kept off any major atrophy, but his body still felt tight and unused. It was certainly uncomfortable, to say the least, and after being told of what had happened he didn't want to be caught in anything less than prime condition.

So the Iskaulit went to avail himself of the facilities, running long laps and then switching to weights and back again. If he saw anyone he would talk, of course. He might even slide into the bar at some point. Most professionals would say that going for a drink after waking up from a coma wasn't the best idea, but considering what he had been told? He thought it a necessary medicine. ]</sub>

It did. Breathable for humans and everything. It makes me wonder, even though the universe is enormous... There's still something tying us all together if even something like what we need to breathe is shared across a lot of places.

That's a nice way of looking at it, though I think it also has to do with a lot of the same materials and gases forming planets being shared from the big bang. Now, densities differ, but humans have a wider range of breathable air than most people think.

But it is a nice thought. I'll have to use that next time I make contact with a new species.

Aw, come on, Jim. You're taking the romance out of it when you explain it in that much detail! Sure, the science checks out, but it sounds so impersonal. At least you agree it's a good thing to say!

Haha, sorry. A lot of my job is balancing the impersonal with the personal. Some species don't even like the personal aspect, or it goes right over their heads.

But I'll definitely keep it in my back pocket for the ones that appreciate romanticism.

Has that one worked for you before?

True that. I'm usually not the head of the whole diplomacy stuff... Or, uh, anything really. I guess you're a lot higher up on the ranking system than I am.

...uhhh...sort of? Maybe? I've gotten some girls to giggle?

I'm a captain in the Fleet, on an exploratory vessel. Diplomacy is part of the game when you're making first contact with new species.

And was that the goal?

That'd do it. I mean, diplomacy's a thing with Voltron too back home, since we're gaining allies to fight the Galra empire, but my job's still mostly to fly my lion and pewpew enemies.

[There's a long pause at that last question before his shoulders droop.]

_{[ He chuckles, because when was the last time he heard a laser described that way? Not to mentions lasers didn't actually make sound in space because no air, but whatever sci-fi. ]}

I wouldn't worry about it to much. You seem like an interesting guy. If you're just you, you'll be fine. Trust me, I had plenty of strike outs at your age too.

You should've seen the debate me and the rest of my team had about what sound lasers make once.

[It was one of the first times he noticed how dorky Shiro really was. A fond memory.]

Just be me, huh? What if, say... The person I like is usually annoyed by me? Isn't being me being bad then?

I mean... pewpew is about right, honestly. Though I suppose it depends on what type of laser and the gases surrounding it when you fire.

Well, there's different types of annoyed. I know that sounds weird, but I know from experience. Trust me, my doctor is annoyed with me a good 75% of the time, but he's still my best friend. And honestly? If the person you like, doesn't like you for who you are? Then they aren't worth liking. Like I said, just be you - and don't try to hard.

Yeah, but that'd involve testing. Which actually...might be a fun experiment to do some day.

You're really good at this whole advice thing. I'll, uh, I'll just keep trying to be myself, but a pick up line or two to show I'm interested isn't a super horrible idea, is it?

...actually, it might be. Or they'd just be too dense to get it. Yeah. Going with the dense thing.

Hey, I would be down for it. Fun experiments are always something to look forward to.

Eh, well, maybe one or two scattered at the right moments might be fun, but - well, to me pick up lines just make you sound like you're trying to hard. Just go with the flow of conversation and don't force it. That's more of a real connection, you know?

I usually open with the line.

[A pause, and he groans.]

Is there a word for muscle memory but for speaking? Because I'm getting the feeling here that between what you and Shiro are telling me, I really do have to fix my tactics.

I believe the term is 'word vomit'.

And yes, I would advise it. If you really like this person, pick up lines just aren't going to do it. Maybe it made them laugh the first time, but after that - what's the point in them? They aren't very sincere, are they? Pick up lines come across as shallow and a lot of the time cliche. But having a real conversation? That'll get someone, and it's important as a way to build a relationship.

I don't think I've ever actually used one on them before. Pretty sure. Like I said, they'd be too dense to get it anyway. But how do you let someone know that you miiiiight be interested in something more than friendship without an epic pick up line?

Well, the person I'm currently with? He was reading an erotic novel and I glanced at a few of the pages and asked him if he was interested in that sort of thing and it just went from there.

_{[ He believes in being honest with the children, okay? Lance looks old enough to have THOSE sorts of urges, you know, and so Kirk sees no reason to hide any of that. It's perfectly natural. ]}

Pick up lines don't get you relationships, they get you one night stands. Just feel out the right time and bring up the subject. If they haven't figured it out by now, you might have to be a little more direct is all.

Oh. Well. That's...definitely a smooth way to get in there. Uh--not like, in there in there, though I'm guessing by your story that you did but that's not the point and this is exactly what we're talking about by the word vomit thing, isn't it?

Actually, I didn't. He was in another relationship at the time, so I backed off that particular tact and just focused on being his companion.

I won't say that won't happen. But don't take it personally. You know, unless they say something to make it that way. Everyone takes this sort of thing differently, but if you're sincere and honest? I think it'll go well for you.
