The Russian stands and returns the smile.]
We have not, but I'm glad to have the opportunity to change that. I'm Pavel Andreievich Chekov.

A pleasure, Pavel Chekov. I am Anders, the new medical officer on board.

Pavel is fine, unless you are like Mr. Jarvis and prefer formalities. It's good to have a medical officer. At home, Captain Kirk is infamous for finding ways to keep our ship's doctor busy.
[Regardless of what the barely-even-there-anymore bruise on Chekov's jaw implies, he's usually quite good at not needing medical attention!]

Pavel, then. Yes, I've seen some of Jim's...exploits. I doubt I'll be without something to do for long.
[But he definitely sees that bruise as he can't help but give a healer's once-over glance of his shipmate.]
I'm not so sure it will just be him, however. What's this? [He motioned to the same are on his own face where Pavel's bruise was.]

You should have until we reach the next system before you have exploits to be worried about, Anders. Hopefully. Unless the captain feels a need to make up for time spent being comatose.
[He waves a hand dismissively.]
This is fine. I'm very good at being cautious, typically, and I promise that you will see very little of me in a professional capacity.

[It's said with a hint of amusement, though. Being a friend of Hawke meant knowing your lot in life involved exploits and Kirk and Hawke had some definite similarities in that regard.]
Good, then. I'll look forward to simply seeing you around as my new shipmate, Pavel, and perhaps a sane presence among those less so here.

[There's no preventing the exploits.]
I look forward to that as well, and I will do my best to remain sane. [He smiles, unconcerned about his sanity. He's been in these crazy universes for years; if he was going to lose his sanity, he probably would've done so by now.] Will you let me know if there is ever anything that I can help you with?

In the meantime, if I might ask it of you: Adalwolfe Hawke has also transferred with me and he is also a communications officer. If you might just...keep an eye on him or perhaps teach him a bit more about it, I'd be grateful. He enjoys learning, but the technology back home is far less than it is here, he's at a disadvantage beyond what the augment grants him.
[He won't say it out right, but he doubts his love could do the job as well as Pavel could and there's no one else who could really teach Wolfe that they knew.]

Do you and Jim come from the same universe or is this a different one where starships are the norm?
[He knew there were others, but Him and Pavel were on the same ship, it seemed like a safe assumption. And no harm done if he was wrong.]
no subject
Yes, the captain and I are from the same universe. I have served under him for nearly my entire Starfleet career... I consider myself fortunate to continue to do that here.

[He could certainly relate to a degree with having Hawke and Riona in the Fleet as well.]
I won't take any more of your time, Pavel, I'm sure we'll be seeing plenty more of each other in the future.
no subject
[And sometimes it isn't, but that's not a thing to talk about.]
Inevitably... which, I hope, you won't consider a bad thing.

[He flashes Chekov one of his more charming grins and waves as he turns to leave the bridge.]
