One Fish, Two Fish, Blue Fish Mingle

Who: The crew of the SS Blue Fish and friends
Broadcast: Not necessarily?
Action: On the lovely Blue Fish
When: Month of October

[With the tragedy of Lyuku and the entire Eyuzi system behind the Fleet, the crew of the Blue Fish and their friends are now settling into a new routine while they drift along in the relative safety of space.

As one of the few ships that didn't suffer a loss of crew during their little excursion, the crew can safely go about their duties, unless something attacks that is.]

I wouldn't have offered if it did. Besides, I always make a ton for everyone to have. You'll get to have it hot and fresh, though.

[Once she gathers up everything, she starts rummaging for pots and other needed kitchen tools.]

How are you settling in?
fantachetic: (pic#11776240)

[personal profile] fantachetic 2017-10-10 03:28 am (UTC)(link)
Well, I can't say no to hot and fresh. I'd be a fool to.

[ Marking his page, Dorian closes the book and sits back in his seat with his legs crossed. ]

Rather well, I expect. Given the circumstances, I hadn't given it much thought.

Quite a fool. Practically the laughing stock.

[Pots and pans collected, Riona begins rinsing off the veggies before going to peel and cut.]

I swear, things aren't usually that... crazy here. That's the first planet we left that wasn't in tact. Hopefully it'll be quiet for awhile.
fantachetic: (pic#11776248)

[personal profile] fantachetic 2017-10-12 10:27 pm (UTC)(link)
I've no previous planetary experiences to compare it to, so I will have to take your word for it.

[ He watches her for a few moments, tilting his head a fraction. ]

Do you.. need assistance? [ He has never cooked in his entire life. ]
bryces_pup: (31)

[personal profile] bryces_pup 2017-10-14 08:37 pm (UTC)(link)
It's a little disheartening, honestly. We've actually helped heal two planets that were "sick" in the past. Feels like a bit of a failure that we weren't able to save this one. Then again, I suppose it would have been hard to stop that meteor from coming.

[It's not like space has giant wiffle ball bats to smack it away.

His offer's met with a raised brow.]

Well that depends. How much of a cook are you?
fantachetic: (pic#11776277)

[personal profile] fantachetic 2017-10-14 09:30 pm (UTC)(link)
One out of three is still, by all technicalities a pass, is it not?

[ Curses, she's seen right through him. He does his best to look nonchalant but his upbringing sort of speaks for him. ]

Does mixing the occasional potion count? [ No Dorian. It doesn't. ]
bryces_pup: (18)

[personal profile] bryces_pup 2017-10-14 11:26 pm (UTC)(link)
[Does it really count though when it involves whole planets and their inhabitants? Eh, she's too tired to dwell on it. Food is a much better thing to talk about!]

Not even remotely. [She's laughing as she holds up a pot.] How about you fill this about two-thirds of the way with water for me while I peel and chop?
fantachetic: (pic#11618769)

[personal profile] fantachetic 2017-10-14 11:30 pm (UTC)(link)
That, I'm confident I can do.

[ Sliding out from his seat, he takes the pot from her grasp to fill it with water. Water is easy. She said two-thirds. Does it have to be two-thirds exactly for it to be right? Oh Maker, mistakes were potentially made.

Whatever, it's happening and he's going with it. Once it's filled, he'll just set it on the stove burner. ]
bryces_pup: (127)

[personal profile] bryces_pup 2017-10-15 08:58 pm (UTC)(link)
[Ugh, she hates peeling, but at least this place has these handy little peelers that make it much easier, rather than trying to do it with knives. Also, much less chance of slicing off fingers.

She looks over when she hears the "thunk" of the pot on the stove top.]

Perfect. See that little knob there in front of you? The one with the numbers on it? Turn it to about... oh, let's say 9, to get the water boiling.
fantachetic: (pic#11776292)

[personal profile] fantachetic 2017-10-15 09:14 pm (UTC)(link)
[ That's definitely easy enough to do. Look, mother, he's cooking. She would be so proud. ]

Right. What next?
bryces_pup: (190)

[personal profile] bryces_pup 2017-10-17 09:46 pm (UTC)(link)
[Hmmm. Putting water to boil is one thing. But peeling and chopping? That's a bit different.]

Well... on a scale of one to ten, how much do you trust yourself with a knife? To chop things, not to stab?
fantachetic: (pic#11776273)

[personal profile] fantachetic 2017-10-18 06:02 pm (UTC)(link)
You wound me, having to rate my proficiency with a blade. [ There is a rather long pause followed by, ] ..Six.

[ He can muddle through it, it's fine! It might not be the prettiest job, but nobody's going to lose a finger or anything. Hopefully. ]
bryces_pup: (218)

[personal profile] bryces_pup 2017-10-18 08:29 pm (UTC)(link)
I'd rather wound your ego than wound your fingers.

[See, those are famous last words. Then someone loses a finger, there's blood, screaming, and it's just such a pain. Let's not do that to Shay, okay?

A six is proficient, so Riona slides over some veggies she's peeled before she hands him the knife.]

Then I crown you Master Vegetable Chopper.
fantachetic: (pic#11776250)

[personal profile] fantachetic 2017-10-18 09:23 pm (UTC)(link)
[ He's much too pretty and too intelligent to chop his own fingers off, thanks. Dorian takes the knife and gets to work chopping these vegetables. It takes a few chops to really come up with the most efficient way to do this without fingers in the way.

It's not a spectacular job if she was going for even pieces, but hey, it's done?? Dorian can now list 'can chop a vegetable' on his list of positive traits. ]

You may want to rescind that title until later.

[personal profile] bryces_pup 2017-10-18 11:18 pm (UTC)(link)
So little faith in yourself! Now, that won't do.

[She shoves the rest of the vegetables his way for him to chop while she takes the itty bitty pieces and dumps them into the pot, which is starting to boil.]

Maker bless these stoves. This pot of water would have taken ages to start boiling over a campfire.

I am perfectly fine with being an amateur in this particular field, as I've never done it before. However, I have a natural talent for most things.

[ And the ego goes with it, but whatever!! ]

If we make it out of here, I admit I will miss some of this technology. [ Chop chop chop. ]
bryces_pup: (128)

[personal profile] bryces_pup 2017-10-22 07:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Ah ha. There's the confidence. We'll see how that natural talent unfolds over time.

[It's a part of his charm!]

Certainly makes Thedas look like a backwater bumpkin kind of place. Do you think we'll ever get to this point? Electricity and the like?
fantachetic: (pic#11776271)

[personal profile] fantachetic 2017-10-24 02:45 pm (UTC)(link)
I expected there to be more magic, but perhaps that's just my personal bias speaking. I must admit, it's quite exciting.

The self-heating water has to be at the top of my list of favorites. [ The communicators are pretty damn handy for quick note taking, too. He's enjoying that part a great deal. ]
bryces_pup: (163)

[personal profile] bryces_pup 2017-10-25 12:51 am (UTC)(link)
Sometimes it certainly seems like magic, the things that can be done. I'm still not entirely convinced there's not magic at work with how the ships are run.

[Like, how??? How do they run??]

Oh, yes. The hot water is so, so lovely. [With just a turn of a lever, hot water comes pouring down on you. It's a wonder.] Have you tried the... jacuzzi jets, I think they're called?
fantachetic: (pic#11776282)

[personal profile] fantachetic 2017-11-05 04:50 pm (UTC)(link)
It's quite possible there is a combination of magic and this technology? Granted, you've been here far longer, so I'll simply have to take your word.

[ Maker, he doesn't know what that is, but it sounds wonderful?? ] I have not, but it sounds like I will need to add that to my list.
bryces_pup: (162)

[personal profile] bryces_pup 2017-11-06 11:57 pm (UTC)(link)
I wish my word was an educated one. For all we know, there are miniature dwarves behind the walls that run everything.

[Unlikely, but an entertaining theory all the same, she likes to think.]

Oh you must. It's bathing in warm water while water shoots out of these pumps and massage your back. It's to die for.
fantachetic: (pic#11776301)

[personal profile] fantachetic 2017-11-09 12:42 am (UTC)(link)
Excuse me, it seems I have a standing appointment with a hot bath.

[ Of course, he's not going to leave immediately, that would just be plain rude. ]
bryces_pup: (223)

[personal profile] bryces_pup 2017-11-10 03:29 am (UTC)(link)
[Not gonna stop her from teasing him about it.]

Abandoning me already? Ha. I see how it is. [She sniffs that little derisive sniff that only someone who's been around snobby, uppity nobles their whole life can really manage.] Very well then. Off with you then.
fantachetic: (pic#11776276)

[personal profile] fantachetic 2017-11-10 03:38 am (UTC)(link)
[ And oh, how she manages it. She would fit right in in Tevinter. ] There are only so many things I can prioritize, my good lady. Unfortunately, this has moved immediately to the top of the list.
bryces_pup: (132)

[personal profile] bryces_pup 2017-11-11 03:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Very well then. See if I share this delicious stew with you later. [And just for dramatic effect, she's going to lift the pot lid and let the aroma waft through the air.]
