One Fish, Two Fish, Blue Fish Mingle

[With the tragedy of Lyuku and the entire Eyuzi system behind the Fleet, the crew of the Blue Fish and their friends are now settling into a new routine while they drift along in the relative safety of space.

As one of the few ships that didn't suffer a loss of crew during their little excursion, the crew can safely go about their duties, unless something attacks that is.]

Oh wow, Allen would be so mad at us. He'd complain for at least a month straight.

Absolutely. I can hear it, even now. And you know Beverly would have that look.

She would. She wouldn't say anything, but you'd just know how she felt about it.

[He laughs softly, a touch sadly, and turns back to look at his statue of 'Suki'. ]

I miss them.

Exactly. The look only a mother could master.

[What she wouldn't give to see that look again.]

I miss them, too. Every day.

Oh yeah, she had it down.

[It was a GOOD look. ]

Still. Got to go on without them, right? Life moves on, and all that. So long as we remember them.

We do, and they'd want us to. At least we have their posts on the network. Otherwise I'd lament the lack of pictures or other mementos.

Yeah, we can always go back and see them, that's...something.

[The one thing Atroma has given them. Then suddenly, just to get it out before he just loses his nerve clams up again and never says or does anything. ]

I- Do you think it's ever...okay, to just sort of accept that maybe this is the life you're going to lead for a while. Like- everyone at home still matters, but do you ever think about just living here? Like. The life Atroma's got us stuck in?

[He's asking her because he knows she's got binds back home, too. He's curious if she's ever...wondered. He might get an answer that'll make him feel a little less restless about it all, one way or the other. ]

[The question surprises her, to say the least. But perhaps it shouldn't, she realizes as she mulls it over a moment. Yes, it's something that's crossed her mind, and she's been here only half the time Sokka has. Given that he seems to be aging, and his contemplative stare at the Suki statue, she's beginning to put the pieces together.]

Sure. For some, it's the best thing they have. For me, well... I don't know if I could accept it, for myself. Too many ties back home, and I'm just stubborn. If one could learn to live with the twists and turns Atroma throws at us, they could certainly eke out a living here in the fleet.

[He rubs the back of his head, he's not entirely happy with any of this. A part of him feels like he's somehow abandoning everything he cherishes back home, but- ]

I still want to go home, I do. That's still the Big Plan. It's just...

[His hand drops, his eyes going to the floor. ]

I'm twenty two this month. I know I went home recently and that was- what it was- [a fucking mess] but I've been here for three years now. I guess I've been thinking it's time to just...I don't know, grow up. But am I turning my back on everything back there by doing that?

No.

[Riona's not sure if she could do it, proceed with life here, independent of home. But as she said, that's her. That's her being stubborn. And maybe, in another two years, she might feel a little differently. It doesn't mean she thinks any other path is wrong.]

You can't put your life on hold forever. It's not like you're giving up on home, or don't want to go back. We don't know how long we'll be here. That said, be prepared for whatever may come, or more specifically, whoever may come into the fleet.

[He lets out a tired laugh- he's been juggling with this for a while now, and it honestly feels good to be able to speak it out to someone- getting it off his chest is a real relief. ]

Yeah, knowing my luck, everyone from home will show up on the day I finish getting my age upgrades.

[Not that it really matters, he's not actually the age they know him as any more. Even keeping his body the way it is...it'd be like lying. Creepy lying. ]

Thanks...Ri. I know it's uh...heavy stuff. It's been on my mind a lot lately.

[Please impart that wisdom to Riona. She seems to forget that getting shit off your chest actually helps.]

Atroma would find it entertaining, I'm afraid.

[They certainly like to maker her suffer.

The use of the nickname makes her smile. Agh, it's been ages since someone called her that! But uh, crap, this is a serious talk and she doesn't need to be bringing that up.]

Hey, we all have those heavy things that weigh on us. Never feel like you have to apologize for unloading them.

[He will do his best. ]

[Oh, but he'd find it precious and use it all the more. ]

I know, but still. It's extra load that you don't need.

I'm doing okay, Sokka. And I would rather be there for my friends. [The load's not so bad when you share it, right?]

[Of course she would. He smiles, shrugging. ]

I know. Still. I appreciate having a sounding board.

Anytime... you know, I was trying to think of a nickname for you, but it's hard to get anything out of Sokka. Not without it sounding very strange.

It rhymes with Okka. [He chuckles at his dumb little inside joke, don't mind him. ] But yeah, it doesn't really...shorten to anything. Most Water Tribe names are like that.

Well that's unfortunate. Nicknames are part of the fun with names. Though, they can also be a source of torment. [As the teyrn's daughter, she was mostly spared this, but she heard some truly unfortunate ones about others growing up.]

That's usually Toph's thing. The nicknames. She always called Aang Twinkletoes. The rest of us usually get away with it.

[Okay that even gets a laugh out of her.]

Twinkletoes? What did he do to deserve that one?

I think it's because he;s an airbender, light on his feet, you know.

...Uh, literally in his case. He can float himself in the air if he needs to. Pretty sure she meant it as an insult, though. Toph means a lot of things as insults.

[He says this with utter fondness, Toph is the best. ]

[Reminds her a bit of Shale, in that regard.]

Twinkletoes doesn't strike me as the kindest nickname, no. But then again, I'm sure there's worse she could have called him.

Oh yeah, I'm sure she really could have picked something vicious if she wanted to. This is a girl who showed people affection by punching them, so-

That's, ah... well that's certainly one way of showing you... care...?

She's always been very...uh rough around the edges. It's just her way.
