He'd feared things would come to pass like this, but as soon as he saw that his quarters had moved from his own small bunk to the larger captain's quarters, he had to accept his fate.

And so he sent out a shipwide broadcast.]

...So this is Doudanuki Masakuni and apparently I'm your new captain. [Can you hear the enthusiasm in his voice? It's about as lively as a dead fish] So I'm gonna need a first mate. I don't plan on disappearin' anytime soon, but havin' someone around to help would be... [Well] helpful. Especially 'cause some of you are new.

And in case you're wonderin', I'm not human, so if you got human stuff you need help with, I ain't the one to do it. [a beat] Sorry.

For people who knew them, Ezri Dax and Kai Gracen have both returned. Hopefully, they're safe and sorry for the late announcement, but... [Well, a planet was blowing up.

He clears his throat.] Things got busy.

Anyone got any tips on how to be a captain? Especially tips for a non-human who has to take care of a bunch of humans now?

[He flips his video on as well so she can actually see what her captain looks like. He's been down and out since the planet blew up and paranoid/hiding since before then, so this might be the first time they've truly actually met.]

Were you affected at all by the singing planet? It made me go crazy.

Tsukumogami... That's not a term I'm familiar with. [ But she knows how to use context clues at least! ] Are you a kind of spirit, then?

[He's so glad she's not all super turbo about being a first mate. A relaxed command is the easiest kind to manage. As long as she steps up when a fight happens, that's all he cares about.]

Yeah. It made me paranoid and it all got worse when I went to the planet's surface. It was loud and it felt like needles in my head.

Terrible. I wasn't on the planet's surface for long, but while I was, all I could hear was it screaming in my mind.

It's quiet now that we're gone, but yeah, that's pretty much how it was. Good that you didn't stick around for long.

[He lets out a sigh]

Made me so paranoid I avoided the crew for the entire time we were there. Probably why we didn't meet until now.

I noticed it was slowly beginning to heal as we left. Which, in that case, I'm glad we're farther away - just in case it wanted to panic about something else.

Hn, thinkin' about the amount of energy it'll need to expend to heal itself, hopefully it won't be in any shape to panic for at least a hundred years or more.

[And they'll be out of the planet's reach looooooong before then.]

Not all the singing planets are like that though. Some of 'em aren't so bad.
