Forward dated to after she got shuffled on board
She's also a chronic insomniac due to nightmares. Anyone who's trying to sleep the same time she is, might hear her thrashing, or talking in her sleep, or she might just wake you up at the end of a nightmare, by screaming a little.]

and for whatever reason he... stares at her. his eyes have this dim orange glow to them, in the low light of the hall. he's also painted his face to look like a human skull, which really doesn't do much to make him appear people-friendly. he's got a dark wool coat on. looks heavy.
so... uh. hello. this is Zhas, your crewmate.]

He stares at her, she stares up at him, noting he's taller than she is, but not towering. She lets the silence go one for maybe 30 seconds. Long enough to be certain he's not planning on saying anything and also probably not moving. So, the ice breaking is on her.]
Hello. I'm Syeira. I just got [dumped] placed here.
no subject
he finally walks closer, but it's... absolutely so that he can smell the air. near her face. which is not typically a thing that humans do.]
no subject
I hope you're not thinking of eating me. I'm really against that, just so you know.
no subject
ugh... but implying she's a prey animal and not the predator goes a long way. he finally decides to say something, in exactly the creepy, deep, gravelly monotone you would expect.]
What are you.
no subject
His demand has her tilting her head, considering him. Whatever she sees makes her decide for straight honesty, without gentle preliminaries.]
I'm what's called a bhaalspawn; a child of a god of death, of murder.
no subject
but he's spent a lot of time getting used to odd people here, and her saying this head-on is much more assuring than her trying to dance around the subject, so he just crosses his arms and looks like he expects a little more explanation than that.]
no subject
She reads his stance and his expectant look and only sighs a little.]
A little over twenty years ago, Bhaal the god of Murder foresaw his own death. To circumvent that, he went to the mortal world and begat a score of mortal progeny. Their intended purpose was to be the fuel of his resurrection. When we die, our essence joins with his, and once we are all gone, he shall be revived. That's the prophesy anyway, in a nutshell.
no subject
so his eyes narrow while he thinks. beings formed of death only bring more death, but what of a creature who's flesh and blood and living?]
What do you do.
[that'll have to settle it. nevermind that the question is... vague, and didn't sound much like a question with his lack of tone.]
no subject
I try to help people.
[It's clear, certain, sincere. Because that's what she does. She tries to help.]
no subject
he punches her in the arm.]
no subject
Ow! Hey! The hell was that for?
[She instinctively holds her arm with the opposite hand over the spot he punched, and now she takes a step back. Because if he's going to beat on her, she's going to need room to fight back.]

So when she hears screaming she wakes up blearily, and rubs at her eyes. She rolls her chair slowly through the dark and tries to figure out where the noise is coming from]
Hello? Are you okay? [she kind of calls out aimlessly, her sleepy brain trying to catch up with what is happening]
no subject
She can also see decently. Not great. Her infravision helps her to see better than most, if there's even a little light to go by, so she can see Nunnally searching for her.]
No, I'm- [She clears her scratchy throat.] I'm fine. I'm sorry. I didn't mean to wake you.
no subject
I was already awake. [she tries to play it off as something light] It can be hard to get a good night's rest on these ships.
no subject
I'm probably not going to be making that any easier.
no subject
[Nightmares and Iroh's snores are preferable to the silence that she heard when hange was gone. Zhas never seemed to sleep and Coil was always off somewhere else]
Are you going to try to fall asleep again? Or if you're awake... I was thinking about getting something from the kitchen? [she'd like to get to know her new crew mate, but she wants to give her a way out if she would rather be alone right now]
no subject
No, I've gotten all I will for tonight. Food sounds great.
no subject
[she starts to roll her chair forward slightly, as if to lead the way. Not to forcefully... more like a nudge]
no subject
[He doesn't at all seem the type.
Sye follows, something that she doesn't often get to do. It's kind of nice.]
no subject
[this is the fun kind of gossip, nice gossip about people that she likes]
We're an odd bunch on this ship, but I like everyone here. And I'm excited to know you better too. [she make sure to look over her shoulder and smile while she says that]
no subject
[She returns the smile, making sure to stay more at Nunnally's side than behind her.]
Odd bunches are the best kind.
no subject
I think so as well. [hm! she nods...]
Well then, it sounds like you'll fit in quite well here. You're implant gave you knowledge of the security systems on this ship, yes?
no subject
[It'd be nice. To fit in.]
Yes. And I guess that means you have two of us here now.
