Canon Updates Can Be Hard to Do
Who: Keith, OTA
Broadcast: None
Action: Huntress, Iskaulit
When: Starting Dec 16, through to the end of the month
Huntress
[After Lance left, Keith came out of his room to refamiliarize himself with the ship. It was a strange feeling. He knew it hadn't been as long as he thought it was, but he had so much new stuff crammed into his head. What felt like months, maybe a whole year, while he was only gone for maybe a week? It was a strange sensation.
Shipmates would first notice that he wasn't wearing the familiar white and red armor, but something darker... black with purple, and it had a hood he could pull up over his head. He still had the Paladin armor, as it had remained in his room during his disappearance, but he no longer felt right wearing it.
He visited the bridge (the pilot station), the lounge, and a few other places. He found the wrapped gift in the cargo bay.
He wasn't sure how to feel about it, but it was definitely his knife. He attached the sheath to the back of his belt in its usual place, intent on heading out with no word to anyone about it.]
=====
Iskaulit
[Keith spent most of his time on the Iskaulit in the gym, working with his new gift... a large dagger that had a glowing emblem on the hilt. He seemed frustrated by something about it as he worked with it.
Outside of the gym, he visited the lecture hall to check on the information stash, and he also stopped by The Melting Pot for some food. Eventually, he wound up at Team Voltron's Lion's Den, but he hovered at the door, uncertain about entering.]
=====
Planet
[Snowmobiles? Racing? Consider it done. Keith was using the speed and racing to clear his head. In some ways, it worked even better than physical training. The idea of letting everything go from his mind to focus on not crashing was a good way to get his head on straight, right? Plus, it was almost symbolic the way the wind from racing along blew away all his cares.
That didn't mean he wasn't up for a race or two. In fact, he relished the idea of doing it, taking on challenges that might seem a little crazy.]

[Meeting Prompto by the vehicle, she answers his question before getting on.]
I might be insulted if you feel like you have to take it easy for me. [That said, she moves into the seat behind him, then shouts over to Keith.]
Ready when you are!

[Keeping Keith in his sights, Prompto weaves around trees and keeps pace until they reach their destination, sliding to a stop once they arrive. This will do!]
Nice!
no subject
It's beautiful. [She turns to the boys.]
So how were you doing this? Does he [nod to Prompto] get a handicap because you already know the terrain? [A brow raise.] Or are you both just letting loose?
no subject
[That might have sounded slightly smug.]
I've only done like two races through here, so... [He shrugged.] His call.
[It was definitely a pretty place, all covered in white marshmallow fluff like that. He could appreciate the aesthetic, if not the slight chill. He wasn't a fan of cold weather.]
no subject
Thanks, but I don't need a handicap. This is cake.
[It was like speeding around Gralea, only without the MTs and wildlife popping up every so often to try and take a chunk out of you.]
Three laps, first one back here wins, and loser eats my dust?
no subject
All right! Line up here, I'll serve as the lap marker. Loser eats Prompto's dust, and I'll treat the winner to something at one of the bakeries as an extra incentive!
[She takes a few steps back to give them room.]
Any last minute additions or questions? If not, you'll go when I reach one!
no subject
[He adjusted his helmet, shaking his head.]
Sounds like a good plan to me.
[If Prompto had no questions, he'd start the machine back up and move into place at their makeshift starting line.]
no subject
[He gave Kaname a thumbs-up.]
All good to go!
[He pulled his snowmobile up next to Keith's, checked his goggles, secured his camera (of course he brought it along, duh!), and waited for the countdown.]
no subject
[She steps back even further with each number, raising her arm above her head and bringing it down quickly on the last count to signal go time.]
One!!
no subject
Sorry, Kaname, but you might end up getting sprayed with some of the marshmallow by accident.]
no subject
Prompto gives his engine a good rev in response to Keith's noise-making, then cranks it the moment Kaname's arm drops. He leans in and takes off, one fist in the air.]
Whoo-hoo!
[Multitasker that he is - or maybe he just has a terrible attention span - he grabs his camera to snap a picture or two, or five, as he speeds around the course. But it's cool. He can still totally win and...
What the hell was that?
Half way around the course he catches sight of something moving. Something big and furry. He veers off and circles back, race forgotten.]
no subject
With the layout of their course and all the white, she doesn't have a complete view of the track, so when Keith laps the first time and is approaching the second, Kaname's worried about not seeing Prompto even once. She takes a chance and steps in his line of sight, waving her arms to flag him down.]
Keith!
no subject
He flinched, yanking hard on the handlebars to avoid her in a moment of panic over possibly hitting her. The machine lurched, turning hard to one side and tilting precariously as it dug down into the snow. Keith cranked the steering in the opposite direction to keep himself upright and came to a stop in a mess of marshmallow snow.]
What?! What happened?!
[She wouldn't have jumped out at him like that unless it was an emergency, right?]
no subject
Because that, was a bear. And if he was real quiet and moved real slow, he could probably get some really awesome shots of it. That's why he left the snowmobile at the edge of the trees and crept in , circling around for the best vantage.]
no subject
[There's an unspoken underside to her statements. Did something happen? Kaname's not ready to jump that far ahead just yet, but concern does seem warranted to her.]
Do you remember passing him? [Even if she doubts the blond's that bad at this, it's worth checking on.]
no subject
We were pretty close for a while, but I overtook him on the backstretch.
[He frowned a bit, thinking about it for a moment.]
He should have come around by now.
[Which could really only mean trouble in Keith's book. Prompto couldn't possibly be that easily distracted, could he?
Yes... Yes, he could.Keith nodded his head for Kaname to get on.]Come on. We'll go back and look for him.
[Racing and winning was one thing, but he wasn't going to do it if a friend was in trouble.]
no subject
[She's quick to get on behind him, nudging him when she's good to go.]
no subject
no subject
[He restarted the engine as she got on, waiting just long enough for that nudge, and then took off, heading around the circuit in reverse in case Prompto had stalled or something and was coming up along the way to catch up. Keith spotted the tracks about the same time as he heard Kaname shout and saw her arm extend out to point. He nodded, following them along to the machine. He stopped, shutting it off, and then got up to check it out.]
It doesn't look damaged...
no subject
Keith, look. [She's in front of the place his camera was mounted. It's gone, too, and it appears to be manually removed.]
And there are footprints over there. [A nod to the trees and the tracks entering into them.] There's no way to get there besides on foot. Let's go.
no subject
Sure enough, after a bit of a hike, they found him there, crouched low, camera pointing at something. Keith paused just long enough to follow the line of sight and...
WAS THAT A QUIZNAKING BEAR?
He froze in place.]
Uh...
[Whispering...]
Hey... Prompto... don't you think we're a little close?
no subject
But then he hears Keith and he tenses. Ah, shit. The race! How long had he been gone?
Eyes on the bear, he raises a hand.] Shh-shh-shh...
[But the bear must notice something has changed, because it makes snuffly kind of sound and turns their way, and then it makes a louder sound that doesn't seem very happy.] U-umm... Shit.
[Very, very slowly, Prompto backs away from his hiding place.] How fast are those things?
no subject
Once Prompto's backed away enough, she blindly reaches out to grab his sleeve and tug him closer to them as she takes a step herself.]
Probably faster than any of us want. [Voice hushed and nervous, the singer doesn't dare look away from it.]
Stay calm, and don't make any sudden movements.
[The words are for herself as much as the boys, given her grip on his sleeve's tightened into a fist.]
no subject
[Wildlife wasn't really his thing...]
