[Anders wasn't the type to post to the network all that often, but he's also not usually in a position to need to ask for help, so, network it is.

There's a touch of uncertainty and hesitation to his baring when he starts the feed and, instead of being in the Tourist's clinic or one of the gardens as he usually is, he's in the ship's cargo bay. Open space seemed like the best thing for what he was trying to practice.]

The gifts Atroma delivered to us seem thoughtful enough, considering, but I find myself in need of some help with mine. I thought I could perhaps figure it out myself, but it hasn't worked out so far.

I know the terms are familiar to those from Thedas, but just in case they're familiar to anyone else: I'd like to speak to anyone who knows about 'Arcane Warriors' and 'Knight Enchanters.' I need help applying my knowledge of one to the other.

[A brief pause.]

To anyone else, I'm in need of a sparring partner. Anyone skilled with a blade willing to help out would be welcome. Thank you.

[And now he waits. He hasn't breathed a word about the Spirit Hilt sent to him...and knows there's some who didn't even know he could wield a sword, much less had in the past. Really, there were only two that would.

But desperate times and all that.]

[He'd just been in the galley getting something to eat when Anders posted his request for help. It had prompted him to leave his plate untouched and stride to the cargo bay immediately. Something else Anders never told him? Maker's balls, will the healer ever stop surprising him?

Wolfe slips in the door, the staff from home Atroma had gifted him whole and mounted against his back as he'd stopped by their quarters to get it. It wasn't Hawke's Key, but it was a familiar weight all the same. And anyway, he's not terribly sure about the Key considering its mounted with a red lyrium shard as a focus.]

Someday Anders, you're going to surprise me with something you've been keeping a secret and I'm not going to take it at all well.

[He's grinning to show its alright, but there is a little part of him annoyed at not being told.]

[When Hawke comes in, Anders has the hilt in his hand, though it remains bladeless. He'd just finished talking with one of the helpful people who'd responded and he sets the communicator down so he can look up and offer a sheepish smile in greeting.]

At least this time it's fairly tame? No death or life-threatening ventures or dodging templars.

[His expression turns soft and sincere.]

Hello, love. I'm sorry, I didn't keep it from you for any particular reason, it simply never came up and seemed like a perfectly useless thing to know when I didn't even have my sword.

Why didn't you? That doesn't seem like something you would just misplace.

[He gives Anders a casual kiss in greeting as he comes near.]

And that's two rare forms of magic you know. Is there anything you can't do?

[A beat, then a teasing grin.]

Well besides spell. And play the lute.

I didn't misplace it, as far as I know, it's still in Vigil's Keep collecting dust in some corner of the Howe's basements. The Templars were...'uncomfortable' with my having it, the Commander ordered me to leave it behind whenever I went out with them to 'put them at ease.'

[The disdain and bitterness in his voice was thick as oil. If he'd had the thing back then, he bet those cowards would have thought twice.

But he didn't linger on the thought or the underlying memory too long, he let pretend ire and indignance rise up and Anders turned up his nose at his boyfriend.]

How dare you ply me with endearing praise and then snuff my hard-earned lute-playing skills. I practiced as often as I was allowed, I'll have you know. And spelling hardly matters as long as the intent comes across in the end.

Spelling is how you get your intent across, love. No one is going to agree with a writ if they can't understand it.

[He teases again in a gentle tone, playful. Something to help Anders away from the memory of the bastard of a replacement for Riona.]

I do apologize about the lute, though. You may need more practice but I do like hearing you play.

[That much is the truth. The idea of Anders wooing him with song is appealing.]

Semantics. [He dismisses Wolfe's claim and focuses instead on what he wants to hear.]

Perhaps I'll find one again on one of the planets. I could start practicing again...though maybe in an area more like this one to avoid offending sensitive ears.

[He smirks, but then his eyes light up with enthusiasm.]

Do you want to see how it works, the blade?

Absolutely.

[Score two for Wolfe, he has a Wintersend gift idea and gets to see new magic to boot.]

[Anders smiles at him and turns so he's still near his love, but with enough room to focus his mana into the blade.

In a blink of light and a sound of air rushing, a rush of blue mana juts from the handle and instantly forms a blade that could easily fit the hands of a warrior used to swinging around a blade meant to cleave a man in half. Anders held it in one hand as lightly as he might be holding a stick.]

It's like casting a maintained spell, except it doesn't pull nearly as much mana and I hardly need to concentrate to maintain it. I believe it is meant to be used along with a staff instead of in replacement as Arcane Warriors do.

I can see the value in having two blades at your disposal in battle.

[He stares at the blade with rapt fascination, wanting to touch it but knowing that could be dangerous if he just reaches out.]

But can you fight with this even while healing? Those spells take so much concentration.

[Anders held out his other hand and the vague wisps of a healing spell stirred in his palm, not fully cast, but enough to prove his point.]

There's a focus crystal in the hilt itself. The only thing it's lacking is the actual spirit meant to be housed in it to make the mana regeneration a little easier. I think it only requires a wisp, nothing with actual sentience, but those are hard to come by out here; it's functional and that seems good enough.

[The blade almost seems to break as Anders releases it and then offers the hilt to Hawke.]

You've a gift for picking things up easily, I'm sure you could make it work as well. Feasibly, anyone with mana can, it's the techniques that are harder to learn.
