Captain's Log - Sing That Sweet Melody
Who: Jim Kirk & You
Broadcast: Yes
Action: On the Tourist at First and Later on the Iskaulit
When: Jan 4 - Kirk's 32nd Birthday
[ Video ]
[ The transmission has a soundtrack this time - the dulcet tones of The Beastie Boys' Sabotage. A personal favorite of his, evidenced by his head gently bobbing to the 'beats and the shouting' as Jaylah had so fondly referred to it as. Hard to believe that had been years ago now. ]
You know, there are times that I believe that Atroma knows way, way more about us than we think it does. That the whys of ripping us out of our times and our worlds is a lot more purposeful than we might think.
This, for instance.
[ He goes quiet and makes a motion with his hand to indicate the beats and the shouting, or to Kirk, the classical piece playing. ]
I got this as what I can only assume is a combination Christmas and birthday gift. It's nothing but Sabotage remixes. Which, coincidentally, is probably one of the most significant songs in my life. Crashed my first car to the song - which, not surprisingly, lead to my first misdemeanor. I would sing this at the karaoke bars in college, even a bit during Star Fleet Academy on our nights off. And this song helped save the Federation, possibly the universe - also, coincidentally, on my birthday.
[ He goes quiet for a minute, just seeming to listen to the song, though his eyes seem far away. ]
Anyways, if anyone would like to borrow it or get a copy, drop me a line. I'm always happy to share the classics from my world. It really is a great song. Hopefully next time I get a full album and not just the top twenty remixes - though I question the one that uses a piano. I don't recommend that version.
[ A soft sigh and then quieter than before - ]
Two years and thirty-two, huh?
[ End transmission. ]
[ Action - Tourist + Iskaulit/Malum ]
[ His offer made, Kirk would spend a bit more on the Tourist listening to the songs, going down to the freight hangar to blast the music, and probably do a little bit of a workout while he did it. It was the sort of music that made you want to move, after all. He would stop between sets to flip through data on a pad, sometimes making notes, and then going back to his exercise with music that vibrated his bones.
Thankfully he has left the music behind when he goes to the Malum, because, well, it is his birthday, and he has a tradition on his birthday - a good solid drink. Normally he would share it with Bones, get chided about calling his mother, and then they would toast. That was it. No sense in changing the routine now, though he would have to do it without Bones. He thought about inviting Chekov, but, well, he didn't want to bother the other man.
So he could be found later at the Malum, in his reserved seat because even on his birthday he was the official honeypot, sipping something good and from the top shelf. He didn't use his birthday for anything, except a good drink and could you blame him? ]

[ He sipped his drink and shrugged. ]
What I've done for my birthday the past few years, honestly. Haven't seen a reason to make a fuss about it.
action;
[He doubted today would be the last day Kirk would blast his music.]
Fair enough, I can hardly claim anything different.
[He hadn't even told anyone it was his birthday. Not that it seemed appropriate with cannibals everywhere.]
...Are you drinking alone?
Re: action;
At the moment.
[ He reached is foot out and nudged a chair. ]
Want to change that?
action;
[He took the seat across from Jim, trusting that whoever was bartending tonight would already know what to get started for him; Anders had some favorites, but he always started with that blasted Pina Colada drink Crowley had introduced him to.]
So, Jim, how are you doing? In general.
Re: action;
[ Oh, they knew. A good bartender always knew, and thus Anders was provided with said Pina Colada soon after he sat, which made Kirk snort and point at it. ]
Who introduced you to that?
[ Though Anders had also asked him a question, so he shrugged. ]
Fine as can be, I suppose. Enjoying a quiet planet, a bit of quiet time. You? Been on any fun dates?
action;
Crowley did. I asked to try something new and this is what he gave me. It's delicious. Have you had one before?
[Kirk's question earns a chuckle, but Anders shakes his head.]
I suppose? Wolfe and I went on a double-date with Riona and her husband it was...something. I'm not sure what the two of them were trying to accomplish, but it was almost like they were competing with each other the whole time.
...And, of course, there was the room you got for us, thank you for that, though that doesn't really count as a date.
What about you?
Re: action;
Haha, yeah, I've had one. They're a beach-side staple on my world.
[ He snorted at the mental image he got from that. }
My horse is bigger than your horse? Or my husband is cuter than your husband, I should say?
You're quite welcome. I'm glad you found it of use. I think we both can agree the beds here make it a touch difficult to get properly intimate with your significant others.
Nothing terribly exciting. Fenris and I spent some time in a little chalet, of sorts, and I did some shopping, and exploring. Soaking in the good stuff while it lasts.
action;
You know, I think that's exactly what they were doing. They seemed to be going out of their way to be affectionate and overly sweet and while I don't think Alistair was any more put off than I was, it seemed a little....much.
[He shrugs. His loved ones were weird sometimes.]
The larger beds are definitely a plus. Although, I've slept in the captain's bed the fleet offers, it could certainly be worse.
[He gives a wry smile.]
All the same, 'soaking in the good stuff' isn't a poor choice, I don't doubt this peace will be short-lived.
Re: action;
[ He snorted, surprised he had been on the money, though Alistair's story had suggested as much. It wouldn't be the first time he had heard or seen that sort of thing. He almost wished he had seen it. ]
My captain's bed is nice, but a beautiful king bed with a fluffy mattress beats it out any time. And pillows. Really nice pillows.
[ He gave a wistful sigh. ]
Yeah, it never is. Not long enough, by far, though this has felt longer than most. Makes me worried for the next storm that comes our way.
