Captain's Log - Sing That Sweet Melody
Who: Jim Kirk & You
Broadcast: Yes
Action: On the Tourist at First and Later on the Iskaulit
When: Jan 4 - Kirk's 32nd Birthday
[ Video ]
[ The transmission has a soundtrack this time - the dulcet tones of The Beastie Boys' Sabotage. A personal favorite of his, evidenced by his head gently bobbing to the 'beats and the shouting' as Jaylah had so fondly referred to it as. Hard to believe that had been years ago now. ]
You know, there are times that I believe that Atroma knows way, way more about us than we think it does. That the whys of ripping us out of our times and our worlds is a lot more purposeful than we might think.
This, for instance.
[ He goes quiet and makes a motion with his hand to indicate the beats and the shouting, or to Kirk, the classical piece playing. ]
I got this as what I can only assume is a combination Christmas and birthday gift. It's nothing but Sabotage remixes. Which, coincidentally, is probably one of the most significant songs in my life. Crashed my first car to the song - which, not surprisingly, lead to my first misdemeanor. I would sing this at the karaoke bars in college, even a bit during Star Fleet Academy on our nights off. And this song helped save the Federation, possibly the universe - also, coincidentally, on my birthday.
[ He goes quiet for a minute, just seeming to listen to the song, though his eyes seem far away. ]
Anyways, if anyone would like to borrow it or get a copy, drop me a line. I'm always happy to share the classics from my world. It really is a great song. Hopefully next time I get a full album and not just the top twenty remixes - though I question the one that uses a piano. I don't recommend that version.
[ A soft sigh and then quieter than before - ]
Two years and thirty-two, huh?
[ End transmission. ]
[ Action - Tourist + Iskaulit/Malum ]
[ His offer made, Kirk would spend a bit more on the Tourist listening to the songs, going down to the freight hangar to blast the music, and probably do a little bit of a workout while he did it. It was the sort of music that made you want to move, after all. He would stop between sets to flip through data on a pad, sometimes making notes, and then going back to his exercise with music that vibrated his bones.
Thankfully he has left the music behind when he goes to the Malum, because, well, it is his birthday, and he has a tradition on his birthday - a good solid drink. Normally he would share it with Bones, get chided about calling his mother, and then they would toast. That was it. No sense in changing the routine now, though he would have to do it without Bones. He thought about inviting Chekov, but, well, he didn't want to bother the other man.
So he could be found later at the Malum, in his reserved seat because even on his birthday he was the official honeypot, sipping something good and from the top shelf. He didn't use his birthday for anything, except a good drink and could you blame him? ]

Video to action
[He says that like it explains everything, even knowing Kirk probably hasn't been told about the limitations to his power. He hasn't told him, and he doubts Kitty would mention it.
When Kirk moves Kurt makes his way inside, perching on the edge of his bed from habit; so many of his friends have too little space for seating arrangements.] You know, I'm surprised you're not throwing a party. I'd have taken you for the sort to see your birthday as a celebration of your life.
Re: Video to action
[ Kirk makes no objection to Kurt's choice of place to stand - or sit. His room was bigger than some given his status as the captain, but it was a small ship, and 'bigger' didn't mean to much. He moved to uncork a bottle and pour out a measure for Kurt in a glass, coming over to give it to him. ]
I used to, quite a bit. I was rather known for them actually. The birthday karaoke king. More recent years and events have mellowed me, I suppose.
[ He sipped his own glass. ]
Did you come to change that?
action
Now that's closer to what I was picturing. Never did understand karaoke; are you supposed to try holding a tone, or is the point to sound as awful as possible?
[The question gets a snort.] Katzchen's the one who throws parties, not me. Last time I planned anything like that, it was my wedding. [His amusement fades into a thoughtful expression, a flash of wistfulness there and gone.] Did come intending to give you something, though.
Re: action
The point is to have fun and not care how you sound, good or bad. Most of the time you’re drunk when you sing anyways. Get a good laugh, pretend you’re a star, then throw back some bar snacks and repeat.
[ He rolled his eyes at the other, but his lips were pulled into a softly amused smile. The expression shifted to one of curiosity at that statement, tilting his head ever so slightly. For now he files away the married bit to ask about later. ]
Oh? More than your delightful company?
Re: action
[His thoughtfulness is momentarily lightened by an impish expression, his tail flicking behind him. Kurt covers it by taking a sip of his drink, humming softly in approval of the taste.] You have good taste in booze. [He tilts his head back up to meet Kirk's eyes, silent for a moment before he nods, crooking the spade of his tail in a 'come here' motion.]
Re: action
I like to think I can belt it out with the best of them. But the stars will always be my true calling. Or didn’t you hear me on that musician planet awhile back?
[ Now his curiosity is really piqued. He hummed and came forward, quiet close to Kurt, resting his hand on one side of Kurt’s hip on the table. His fingers twitched, wanting to touch that tail, but refraining. ]
I like to think I have good taste in a lot of things.
Re: action
[His lips twitch upward at the unintended implication, Kurt himself staying very still as Jim leaned in. For a second he wondered if the man were going to cage him, and felt a swell of relief when his other side was left open. Sweet of him.]
Oh, you have taste. [His voice was soft, rumbling in his chest as Kurt tilted his face up. His tail slid around the arm braced against the table, coiling halfway up. He starts tracing the tip of the spade over the blue veins, his free hand coming up to brush knuckles across Jim's jaw.] Question is whether it's good taste, or bad.
Re: action
Oh? What is you know of men's performances while drunk?
[ Was he talking about karaoke? Maybe. Maybe not. As it was, he shivered when Kurt's tail wrapped around his arm, not letting his breath quite catch, but it was a near thing. He watched Kurt lean in, tilting his head so his lips brushed the knuckles on his jaw. A risk, he thought. The potential to spook the other, but one he thought worth it. He did find Kurt fascinating. He had for awhile. When opportunity presented itself... ]
Well, I like the color blue. Is that good taste or bad?
Re: action
The fear of thirty years doesn't vanish in one, and the tightness building in his chest only loosened when the other man brushed his lips against Kurt's knuckles. His first instinct, when he felt heat flushing in his ears, was to curse Jim and his entire family line. But that would bring attention to it, and so Kurt chooses to chuckle softly, his words little more than a whisper.] I'm biased.
[And then he pulls his hand away, leaning in to press his lips to Kirk's before he loses his nerve entirely. Just a simple kiss, no attempt to deepen it until Jim reacts, one way or the other.]
Re: action
[ Shock registers before anything. He had teased Kirk about this sure, but he had thought it all little more than that. A friendly place to poke between friends, roll your eyes over, and move on. Kurt actually kissing him? It shorted a few wires for a second. Gently he pressed against Kurt’s lips, enough pressure to say he meant what he was doing, a subtle ask for more even as he savored the way Kurt’s lips fit against his own. His fingers touched a blue cheek, unable to quote keep a smile from his lips as they kissed. ]
Re: action
And then Kirk responds, and that tail relaxes again, the flat of the tip rubbing against his arm as if in apology. Kurt's lips part slightly in response to the unspoken question, Kurt himself leaning forward slightly as they kiss. Habit drives him to try taking Jim's lower lip between his teeth, so careful with his sharp fangs. ]
Re: action
[ Nothing to apologize for, Kurt. He was surprised, true, but pleasantly so. More so when Kurt relaxes and let's him slip his tongue against Kurt's own, curious to the taste of him. A shiver ran through him at the touch of those sharp teeth on his lip, letting out the faintest of whines, wanting more of that sensation. His fingers worked around to cup the back of his neck, kneading at the muscle, twisting his wrist so his fingers could brush along Kurt's tail as he savored what he could only assume was his birthday present. ]
