002 In The Bleak Midwinter (OTA)

( Sansa hasn't addressed the entire fleet since she'd first arrived around a moon ago but she feels like if she's going to make an expedition down to the planet below, she ought to have some company. This isn't something she's familiar with, travel through the stars, and the information she's been given about the land beneath them seems appealing. She wants to feel a true ground beneath her feet again and the lure of snow and all that comes with it is hard to ignore. She's pink-cheeked and slightly optimistic when she addresses the fleet. )

I've been wanting to go down below to the planet but since this is my first experience with it, I wondered if someone might like to accompany me? I know my ways are likely different from most of yours but I appreciate your indulgence just this once.

( She presses her lips together and chances a bit of a smile. )

I've heard there's treats and things? It might be nice for a day or so.

( When Sansa gets down onto Selvin-9, the first thing she encounters are snow leopards. They're small, beautiful little things that look rather like spotted jungle cats only their coats are white as snow. She's never heard of such a thing in Westeros and she immediately wants one upon setting eyes on them playing around. She asks around and it seems they're quite tame and able to be taken as pets so she has one on a length of ribbon, a lovely creature she's started referring to as Jonquil. She looks to the person next to her, someone who seems like they might be from the fleet as well. )

Do you see her? Isn't she amazing? I haven't had a pet in a long time. It's just a pity this one won't grow to be much larger than it is right now. I could use something to protect me.

... Interesting. Well, if there was anyone to find a diplomatic solution, it would be you. You play the Game beautifully.

[He smiles, bowing at her slightly, before giving her a thoughtful look.]

I will give you some tomes to read, if you like. To better educate you.

( Tyrion's compliment lands well. It's rare that anyone compliments her mind - it's always her beauty, her claim. It's never the mind that works beneath the pretty face. Sansa smiles a bit and tips her head. )

I would love to have some tomes to read. I've never been much of a reader but necessity calls for alternate measures of engaging the world.

[Well look at that, she granted him a smile. He gives her a lopsided one in turn, before he presses his lips together thoughtfully.]

I shall be pleased to do so. Always better to be prepared.

I'm glad you're here, my lord. I haven't really shown how much I appreciate, at least I don't think I have, but I wanted you to know that.

( Having someone she can trust to guide her when she's uncertain is a boon and it's something she's lucky to have him here. She's so grateful for it and if she cannot have her family, she will be glad to have Lord Tyrion. )

... You are quite welcome, Lady Stark. If I have done nothing more than offer some advice and books, then I am glad I was able to at least make you feel more comfortable.

[He tips a bow to her, that small smile lingering on his lips.]

You'll allow me to treat you to tea or something, won't you?

( Perhaps it's strange to offer to buy tea for her own husband but she and Tyrion have always had a strange relationship. She feels like she can trust him, that they're together in this, and she wants to let him know how much she appreciates that. )

I. Well. If you ... truly would like to.

[It seemed like an odd thing to do. But she wanted to show her thanks, and he did not want to be rude to his wife. Former wife? He is not entirely certain.]

I would like to. You showed me so many little kindnesses in King's Landing that I never acknowledged or even recognized. I told my brother that he should meet with you and trust you because I trusted you and you haven't proven me wrong.

( Perhaps it is strange to treat her former (current?) husband to tea but Sansa wants to, very much. )

I have things that can only be spoken about in person and I would like to tell you.

...You know, being mostly trustworthy has done nothing but good for me. I believe I should keep that up. As well as my very fast, very charming honesty when needed.

[He mused, his lips curved into a wry smile.]

Very well, we can go to tea.

( Sansa nods, glad that he's agreed to go to tea with her, and gives him something of a sheepish look. )

Should we find a teahouse then, my lord?

[Tyrion flashed her a brighter smile, and gave her another bow.]

I think we should, my lady.

( It doesn't take long for Sansa to find what passes for a teahouse here on this planet and once she has, she has the doorman show she and Lord Tyrion inside. Once they're directed to a table, she sits in a chair and peruses the menu; she's never seen so many things on order in her life. )

I hardly know where to start.

I have always found the beginning a good place to start any conversation.

[Tyrion stated with a competely straight face, even if his mis-matched eyes gleamed a little.]

That goes for stories, and food.

( Sansa thinks she should have expected one of Lord Tyrion's quips and, instead, it takes her by surprise. She rolls her eyes a bit but the lie of it is given away in the curve of her smile. At least he's not using humor to deflect from anything and it's just a laugh for a laugh's sake. She looks at the menu again and orders a pot of tea for them to share along with some cakes; she doesn't think they're lemon but she hopes they're good all the same. )

All right, then. The beginning. Tell me about your time here, then? I know most of what happened in Westeros.

[Tyrion paused, his mouth working for a moment as he looked thoughtful. He leaned back in his chair, tipping his head at Sansa.]

It is ... something of a long story. We may be here awhile.

( Sansa smiles back, eager to hear it even if it takes Tyrion a while to explain. )

I have time, my lord.

Well ... when I first arrived, I was terrified of space. I still am, to a greater extent. I have learned to control that fear, however. I have learned not to take food for granted any more - for I had gone from bread and cheese to ... rather bland paste. I learned that I had no money, and had the strange ability to start from the beginning once more ...

[He paused, then said wryly.]

Perhaps it would help if I had ... more guiding questions?

( The things he mentions are all things that Sansa has had to adjust to as well. She's not had a terrible time here in the fleet but it's so different from Westeros that she struggles, sometimes, to comprehend how she's supposed to conduct herself. )

Everyone is so much less formal here. I have taken to introducing myself as simply Sansa, as my titles mean nothing here. It's...unusual.

[He hums softly, laughter splashing through his gaze.]

I spent my first two months using my full title.

( Sansa laughs a little, pink touching her cheeks. )

I have found that people here don't seem to care about titles so I've just gone by Sansa. Of course, if you would prefer, I can still call you Lord Tyrion?

You can just call me Tyrion, my lady. Although I shall of course, call you my lady and Lady Sansa, if you wish. I have learned that formalities are only useful in diplomatic relations with people outside the fleet.

[He paused, then snorted in memory.]

And with our own people when they arrive.

( Sansa shakes her head. If he is to insist that she call him simply Tyrion, she's not going to insist upon more formality from him. They are friends and she doesn't want him to think otherwise. She needs his friendship here. )

You can call me simply Sansa, Tyrion. There's no need to stand on formality with me, I promise. We were married at one point.

[He nods his head with approval at her statement, before he chuckled.]

Yes, to neither of our approvals, if memory serves.

You made a better husband than the second one they forced me to marry.

( Sansa hasn't told anyone this, at all, and she's not certain she could tell it to Tyrion now. Part of her wishes that he already knew so they could leave it unspoken between them. )

Lannisters make better husbands than Boltons.

....Well I imagine rabid dogs make better husbands than Boltons. The only step below that are Freys.

[He stated simply, feeling a sudden sense of uneasiness at the shift in her expression.]

However, I will take the compliment as is, from a Stark. Thank you, Sansa.
