[The network's greeting with a smiling redhead, waving a little at the camera. From the looks of it, she's sitting at a desk aboard one of the ships, but not the sad excuse of one in their quarters. Heck yeah, personnel office.

As always, her tone is friendly, offering an easy approach should someone need it.]

When I think about it sometimes, the fact some people here don't have regular space travel back home is still hard for me to wrap my head around. For me, it's as normal as waking up in the morning. Going from planet to planet or system to system, for performances or otherwise, is so routine, I never bat an eye. It makes me wonder how close other worlds are from achieving the same thing. Or maybe you're already there.

[Only now does a striped mercat start shuffling across the desk in front of the camrea. Kaname chuckles a little, tucking some hair behind her ear before lifting him off and placing him in her lap.] I guess I want to know about that. Or maybe what's common for you but strange to others? Like back home, everyone knows the term Protoculture, but here... I think I'd be surprised if someone else did. If anyone wants to share, I'd love to hear it.

[She reaches forward, aware of the mercat's interest in the device, and turns off the feed.]


[SKATING-- anytime]
[Before the planet, Kaname never went ice skating, but she wanted to learn. Here, thanks to a lot of help from Freyja, she's beginning to get the hang of it. Someone might think that the grace and poise needed to dance and move as much as she does would translate well into this. For her, there's no such luck. Every so often she'll wobble and have to reach the edge of the lake or rink (she uses both) to steady herself. But she's determined. Skate with her, laugh at her, offer her a helping hand or hot drink.]

[SHOPPING-- anytime]
[The little attack concert Kaname and Freyja pulled in the previous system netted them a good amount of credits in ratings, so what else is there to do but spend some of it? Despite receiving her performance equipment complete with fold carbon outfit changes, someone is wanting an expanded wardrobe, as well as decorations for her office and room. Clothes, decor, and more practical supplies are all on her list.]

[SINGING-- most days]
[One thing a singer should never do is not practice. Whether she's in the dance studio, the gym, or even out for a run on the Iskaulit, she can often be heard singing a few different songs. Some are more common than others, but there's a variety. Only rarely is she quiet or simply humming. Her job requires her to project, so she does just that.]

I don't understand how this is so different from everything else we do.

[Once Freyja's steadied her more, Kaname stands up a little straighter.]

You learned when you were really little, didn't you?

Uh-huh. We had this river by our village, and we'd all go skate whenever we just felt like it! It was always snowy where we were, sooooo we had plenty of time to learn.

Do you remember how long it took you to learn?

[Freyja's stories are serving as a good distraction to keep the older singer from thinking too much. She manages a few feet forward without completely realizing what's going on.]

A couple of days! I just kept at it till I learned it, 'cause I didn't want to stop. Mama and papa had no idea what to do with me when I came home, 'cause I had soooo many bruises from fallin'.

[axi]

[The mental image of little Freyja and her exasperated parents is enough to have Kaname giggling. This causes her already precarious balance to give way, and down she goes with a thud, butt first on to the ice.]

Ow-!! [She can't help but sit there and wince.]

Ah—oh no, I"m sorry, I didn't mean to make you fall!

[She holds out her hand, come on Kaname, up you get.]

No, it's not your fault. Uh, hang on.

[She doesn't take Freyja's hand just yet, instead attempting to get her skates into a decent position for standing up. Once (hopefully) there, she grabs the offered hand and uses that to haul herself back up.]

I'm sure I can manage this. It'll just take time.

[livesfastdiesung]

And once you got it, it'll be like... ridin' a bike? Is that the kinda term people use? You won't forget how once you got it!

Most of the time it is. [Kaname works on getting her footing again.]

I'll worry about getting it first.

It's too bad we're not gonna stay here, there's no way to practice anywhere else...

I think I remember hearing about an ice rink on the Iskaulit? We'll have to take a closer look after we leave this system.

[And she's steady(ish) again.] What now?

Just keep tryin' to go straight before you try anything else! You gotta master this if you wanna do anythin' else.

[She looks to Freyja for an example.]

[And Freyja will show Kaname how it's done, going in slowmotion so Kaname can see how she's doing it.

It's a miracle she's managing, honestly.]

[Giggling at the sight of this, she decides to try it herself, albeit at a more normal speed.

And she manages! Wobbly passing Freyja, the redhead's grinning to herself.]

So far so good.

Now you just gotta keep doin' it 'till it's just second nature! It's like walkin', except you're on ice.

[She grins from ear to ear, waving as Kaname passes by her.]

You don't slide when you walk.

[Except whoops, she leans too far forward and down she goes again.]

[livesfastdiesung]

I could if I wanted to—Kaname-san!

[Here she comes to help her up again.]

[axi]

[Kaname sits there, sighing a little.]

I wonder if this would be easier if I was closer to your height.

[livesfastdiesung]

I don't think so. There were people waaaay taller than either of us on Windermere, and they could skate really well! You just gotta get the hang of it. Practice makes perfect!

[Holding her hand out to Kaname.]

[axi]

Well, it was worth asking. [She smiles, grabbing her hand to haul herself back up.]

All right... once around the pond without falling sounds like a goal to me.

[livesfastdiesung]

Everyone's gotta start somewhere! I'll do it with you.

[She beams, before turning to skate in that direction. Slowly, so that Kaname can keep up.]

[Steeling herself, the older girl starts on her mission.]
