[Ulaz had been exploring the crafter's hall. Having just arrived in the fleet recently, this was all still new to him. It had been a long time since he'd actually been able to explore a market like this. Being a medical officer on a Galra military ship and a Blade of Marmora member stationed at one of their most remote outposts kind of prevented that.

In that regard, he had more freedom so he decided to see what was here. For the most part, he was uninterested in trinkets, having had no need for them for more deca-phoebs than he could count.

But the display Sokka had set up caught his attention. A weapon was still something Ulaz needed and he was likely part of the fleet - he wasn't orange after all. He paused at the display, looking down at the items before looking at Sokka]

You made these?

[Sokka#s been here a while, he's learned to not even bat an eyelid at alien lifeforms any more. Just a part of living in the Fleet. He DOES mentally note Ulaz as nothing he's seen before...except...something. Something in a Calibration perhaps, a niggling of someone else's memories.

He grins, excited.]

Sure did! I've got a forge on the Iskaulit. You new? To...the Fleet, I mean. You don't look like a native.

You have a forge? Impressive.

I am new to the fleet. My name is Ulaz, stationed on the SS Caprine.

[His attention turns back to the blades that are displayed]

May I?

[Asking if he could see one of the blades up close]

Yeah, we wanted to give people on the Fleet the chance to have weapons and the like- seen as Atroma are super rude and take all our stuff from us when we arrive.

Nice to meetcha, Ulaz, I'm Sokka- captain of the Blue Fish.

[He smiles, gesturing to them. ]

Yes, I have experienced this. They took my blade away and I'm currently without anything.

[Ulaz picked up one of the blades when Sokka indicated that he could and began to examine it. He seemed to know what he was looking for in a blade, judging the quality of the blade before putting it back down]

Would you be able to make something similar to my sword? I can draw what it looks like so you can decide.

[He's good enough to use other swords, but he is set in his ways and has been using his luxite blade for so long, its what is most efficient for him]

Sure thing, all I'd need is a sketch and what it's made of- I might not be able to replicate the material exactly, but I try to get as close as I can to it. Given how crazy this place can be sometimes, it's really best to be as armed as quickly as you can.

[Besides, making new blades is always a pleasure, making something he'd never even dream up back home. ]

I doubt you'd be able to find the material. It's called luxite. It's extremely rare in my world. But it is a strong, durable material. I've never heard of a luxite blade breaking.

I definitely agree with being armed. It is a strange feeling to have nothing.

[He did actually happen to have something to write on with him. The lab was certainly more primitive than what he was used to, but he was going to be prepared anyway. He produced the paper and pencil from the pouch on his belt and proceeded to sketch his blade for Sokka before handing him the drawing]

Can't say I've heard of it. I've worked with meteorites before, those are pretty strong and durable. They might work as a substitute.

[It's not long before recognition sparks in Sokka's eyes. ]

Hey, that's like Keith's knife!

A meteorite might work if there is ore from on available.

[By now, Ulaz knows about Keith's knife and his connection to the Blade of Marmora so he's not in the least bit phased to hear it]

Yes, they are made from the same material.

I still have some left over in the forge. I try and keep some whenever we come across them.

[This is interesting, very interesting indeed. ]

Neat! So you guys are from the same...well, not world, I guess. But general...universe-kind-of-thing.

If you have it to spare when I am able to offer compensation, I would appreciate it. At the moment, I don't have much I can offer in return.

[Yes, he's offered to pay for it and let Sokka decide how it proceeds]

We are from the same universe yes. I met Keith and the others once before.

Don't mention it. I never charge anything if people can't pay. We've got to look out for one another here, right? This is a way I can do that. We all need to be protected.

Oh that's cool! You're not a member of Voltron, I take it? I think they'd of mentioned that already.

[Sokka's comment does take him aback and he's quiet for a moment. He's not used to someone just... offering like that. The Blades weren't given to necessarily giving a hand out - you had to earn it in someway and the Galra usually had ulterior motives for hand outs]

That's... generous. You are sure you don't want anything?

No, I am not a member of Voltron. I am a member of the Blade of Marmora, which is trying to accomplish the same goal as Voltron.

[He smiles, raising his hands. ]

Not at all. I'm just happy knowing members of the Fleet can defend themselves. Especially lately, things aren't getting so fun around here in general. Better we can all protect ourselves and each other from whatever crazy Atroma throw at us each month.

Oh right, to defeat the uh...Zarkon was it? I think that was his name. Kinda reminds me of Ozai. In a 'if I can't control the world, I'll just destroy it' kinda way.

What sort of things have been happening? [Since whatever it was driving him to make a sword for free]

Yes, Zarkon. There have been instances where some could claim Zakon's troops were doing that. Glory and moving up the chain of command is all that matters. Of course that is what is praised within the fleet. If you have to let a whole civilization die, so be it.

Wellll, we had that planet get his by the meteor and blew the heck up- that killed a lot of people, including members of the Fleet. Then half of us crashed into a planet full of cannibals and that was super fun. And that happened one months after another.

[It's fun times on the Fleet.]

Well, he sounds like a super fun guy. Can't wait to invite him to my next birthday party.

[And he’s just going to stare at that. Yes, these were the dangers that were in space, but still. It was shocking to hear that]

It’s a shame that people were killed like that.

[There’s actually something of a scoff when Sokka says that about Zarkon]

It's more of a shame it was all done for entertainment- to get more people viewing the show. That's just gross.

[He'll take that as encouragement, it TOTALLY counts as a laugh. ]

You think I could get him to wear a little party hat? What colour do you think will suit him best? Pink? Blue?

It is gross, but causing harm for entertainment is something that happens everywhere. If it is socially acceptable, people will watch it and participate.

[If only Sokka knew how much Ulaz was saying there...]

Neither of those are really his color. Black would be what he'd choose if he had a choice.

True, but generally people around here have no clue what Drift Fleet even is. So you know, all those people they're trying to get to watch the show? Noooot a whole lot of them. There's some other info, but that's something we share in person, you know, for safety. Eyes everywhere.

What about black with red accents?

That is the puzzling thing about this. That they have no idea about this fleet and the fact that is part of a show. Clearly their audience is somewhere else entirely. Not sharing information over communicators is a wise plan.

That would be an option, yes.

There's more to it than that, we'll have to have a chat on the Iskaulit. I can show you all my notes on it. It's...an interesting read.
