Zack? [Saying she's taken aback is a little bit of an understatement. Aside from their initial meeting, his transfer to their ship, and expected interactions on said ship, Kaname's never spent much time with him, so when he goes to greet her like an old friend, it catches her off guard.

But it's not a bad thing. She likes friendly people, they're easy to talk to.]

Hey... Browsing, but I am looking to purchase a few things if they catch my eye. [She grins in return.] What about you?

[She'll get used to that, hopefully, since he does it with pretty much everyone. "Hi, we've just met! We're friends immediately and I'll treat you as such."

Zack's expression shifts at the question, more sheepish than happy, now.]

Ah... I'm trying to get a gift for Aerith, but I'm really bad at presents, so it's harder than I thought it would be.

[Kaname is friends with Freyja. She can handle it.

A chuckle escapes her, and she nods in understanding.]

Ah, the pressure of gifts for someone close to you. I feel your plight. [She doesn't really, but she can sympathize.] Don't worry too much, I'm sure she'd love whatever you got her.

Oh man, you're not wrong. But I don't want that to be an excuse for a lousy gift!

[Aerith is a lovely person but he refuses to be a bad boyfriend! Especially when he sort of has competition for it.]

So, uh. ...Any suggestions?

That sounds up to personal interpretation.

[His question earns him a confused look. Her previous attempt to help wasn't received well. To her knowledge both he and Cloud were dating Aerith... or some sort of arrangement. It's not her business either way.

Still, she decides to double check what just happened.]

Uh, yeah? Unless you don't want to, I'm not gonna bug you if you're busy. But you're like-

[He gestures, somewhat vaguely, towards her.]

I'm looking for something nice, something a pretty girl would like. So I figured I'd ask a professional!

[A laugh escapes her at the vague gesturing.] I... thanks, I think.

Don't worry, I'll be happy to help, I just wanted to make sure that's what you wanted.

[Kaname grins at him.] So, do you have any ideas so far?

[FINGER GUNS, he's super ace at this platonic flirting thing.]

Let's see... clothes, probably? Always useful. I know her size and everything, just need some help with style and colour. Oh, and I want to find her something that isn't pink.

[That gets a nod from her.]

Well, I saw a shop with a nice looking selection back this way. Were you thinking something fancier or more practical and day to day?

Hmm... maybe something kinda in the middle? Like, something that looks nice, but is practical to move in. She isn't really the stuffy type, and she's real active, but she does like to dress up nice.

[he has no idea if that's a realistic request, but it's the ideal option.]

[Walking back the way she originally came, Kaname brings her hand to her chin in thought.]

That's a tall order... But let's see what we can find. [She nods to a store front to their left before going on inside.]

[Zack follows along behind her, hands twined together behind his head, looking undaunted by the task ahead now that he's got backup. Even if they don't find something that 100% fits the bill, they're bound to at least get close.

Though walking into the store does make him falter a little.]

Wow... there really is a ton in here.

[Where does he even start??]

What's the first thing that catches your eye? Not pink, since you said you're avoiding that.

[Kaname positions herself off to the side to give him a clear view of... everything. Racks of tops, bottoms, hats, purses, jackets, and accessories surround him. It's not a huge store, but it does offer variety enough to narrow it down, even if they don't find anything at this location.]

Don't think on it too hard, just choose something.

[Zack gives the area a more careful scan, searching for anything that stands out. After a long moment he heads over to a display for skirts, holding up a long circlet of pastel fabric.]

What about this? She likes flowers!

[Studying it, Kaname tilts her head in consideration.]

It's not bad. Can you see her wearing it? [She falls silent to let him think on that.] And there's nothing stopping you from looking more.

["Not bad" isn't exactly the most stirring of agreements, so Zack ponders the skirt for another second or two before setting it back on the rack, venturing further. He goes through that process several more times, making a mental note of whether her reaction might have sounded positive or not - and some of his options are definitely not worthy of a positive reaction, because his fashion since is severely stinted to say the least - until finally he steps back to the center aisle, turning in a ponderous slow circle.]

....What would you pick? If you could get anything from here, I mean.

[Knowing Aerith, she'd probably wear anything Zack gave her at least once, no matter how terrible. If it comes down to his opinion only, it's certainly the thought that counts. But he wants to find something she'd like, and that makes it hard to decide. He needs a break from thinking about it.]

[Zack wandering around like a confused child and looking at things several times over earns an amused smile from Kaname as she watches and offers vague opinions on his selections.

The question after all of that makes her laugh. She walks over to a display and picks up brown two toned hat. On her head it goes as she turns to face him.]

This, I think... [Catching sigh in a nearby mirror, she grins.] Actually, I will. Trying looking at things and picturing her in them. Maybe the best choice is the one that's easiest to see in your mind.

Oh man, that's super cute. I dig it!

[THUMBS UP. He knew she was a good choice, clearly she has good taste.

He wanders around, fussing a few more times over random items - this time slightly better than the last ones - but finally he goes back to the original skirt, lifting it up for a second glance.]

I think I'm gonna stick with this! Sometimes you gotta go with your gut.

[She smiles at him, nodding.]

Sometimes it's the best way to go. I'll meet you out front, then.

[After she goes and pays, Kaname will be waiting outside the store. She doesn't want to say anything, since it's his choice in the end, but she does think his selection is the best option. Good for him.]
