[It's still odd to hear of so many other people out there who have similar powers to his own. He's mostly past the pettiness of being put-out by it... mostly. At least tonight he's not thinking in those terms.]

That sounds familiar. [He does manage to sound a bit wry at that. Thor knows he's responsible for the gloom tonight.] She sounds like an admirable woman, even so.

[She can relate to that kind of pettiness. She loves Vision, but did he really need her powers too on top of everything else? And in Marina there were at least four other people with the phasing.]

She is. I miss her. [She misses all of them. Well, not Kurt. She got to keep him after all.]

I am frustrated with being here, at loose ends, when there is so much I need to handle at home.

These places take frustrating to a whole new level, don't they? You're just completely cut off from your life and the minute you start to rebuild it here they take that away from you too.

I think the usual script for a moment like this is that I'm supposed to remind you that we probably go back to the moment we left so it all still works out. [She doesn't have a lot of faith in that script honestly.]

['Cut off' is right, and that's where his sudden grim mood had come from. He can get by most days thinking about more present issues, but the ever-present spectre of his people's situation is always ready to throttle him at a moment's notice.]

It may work out then, but it doesn't come as much of a comfort right now.

[It's no slight against Kitty. Thor just doesn't have it in him to pretend that it satisfies him at present.]

Oh, no, of course not. I'm terrible at comforting. I'm way too honest for that. I'm much better at commiserating. I'm also not a terrible listener if you wanted to talk about what was going on.

[He does and he doesn't, more's the pity. There are some things he can say though now that he's further out from his immediate return to the Fleet.]

I was in the process of bringing my people to Earth. To be interrupted in that is a great worry to me, even knowing that nothing will change while I'm gone.

[If he hadn't experienced the time freeze himself, it would be worse. He wouldn't have believed what people here said about time not passing. It would have driven Thor half-mad by now otherwise. So, that's a small mercy.]

No leader wants to be separated from their people in times of trouble. [She's definitely been there. It went very badly.]

I still worry about home even after years of being away and knowing what happens and knowing I won't be there for it.

[He's not sure why Kitty sounds so certain of that.]

It is a terrible time to be away. Our home was just destroyed, and we've yet to make it to a new one.

I died. I mean, I'm alive. I'm not a zombie here. But my time back home had a couple of seconds left on it before they pulled me out and Kurt remembers me being dead. [She says this more or left off handedly by way of explanation and more concerned with his news. It's not that she doesn't care about her own death, but she's more or less left that life behind, knowing this is the one she has left for however long before she disappears.]

I'm so sorry about your home. It's unlivable?

Oh... I'm sorry.

[At least it's not his first time hearing about someone dead being in the Fleet before. Granted, the other time had been about Loki, and that was an incorrect assumption on one important level. But Thor had adjusted to the concept. He's still sympathetic.]

It no longer exists; it was wholly destroyed. It had to happen, but it's still a hard thing to bear for our people.

[And for himself, being the one who made the choice to instigate Ragnarok. No amount of understanding the necessity of it will wipe the spectre of it from his mind.]

[She nods, accepting his condolences.]

I'm not saying it's not hard or a tragedy, but the people are more important. It sounds like at least some of them survived. That's something to hold on to at least.

[You know, Kitty was going to destroy her world to save it once, so she would get that.]

I agree. Asgard isn't a place, it's a people. And we saved as many as we could.

[Even if the number is in hundreds and not thousands, and so many perished at Hela's hand before Thor could arrive to help. He holds on to what was saved, and does his best to honour those that were lost.]

It's why it's so important for us to reach Earth. We also need to plan for that, given it will not be the simplest of tasks.

[An understatement. Thor's not blind to the complications that could arise, but he's bullish in his hopes they'll overcome them.]

No, probably not. Maybe you're world isn't the same, but back home even before there was a big reason to fear mutants people were happy to do it just because we were different and powerful. People also don't like giving up their land for those who need it more.

[He smiles a bit, though it's humourless.]

If your people are anything like you, they're probably up for the challenge though. [Not that she knows him well, but he is an Avenger and she thinks highly of some of those. And LOOK AT HIM. JUST LOOK AT HIM.]
