"In my world, there are many spirits who are fond of spending time with mortals, but most would prefer to be left to their own devices." He'd been one of those for a long time, but so much for that.

"I am certain it is. I have already met many mages whose magic behaves differently than I am used to." The biggest thing being that their magic comes from inside of themselves, rather than the Fade. It's weird to watch someone perform magic and not hear the Fade singing.
invigorates: on a Friday night. I can relate (Is turgid ever used for anything)

She nods her head, silently filing that information away for later. Not that she thinks she'll need it, but it's nice to know little tidbits of knowledge from others.

"How does magic behave where you are from?" She knows of her way; of gathering the power from within her very being and expending it as she sees fit. She knows too the ways of the other races — stealing from other living creatures, simply learning the magic and harnessing it, the list goes on.

"It comes from the Fade, where mortals go to dream and pass through when they die. Mages have the ability to pull power from the Fade and affect their own world with it. Spirits live in the Fade."

At least they do when they aren't pushed through the Veil by blood magic, Justice thinks.

Lioriley looks absolutely enraptured by the concept. It's so wildly different from her own understanding of magic that she can't help but want to know more, to experience it herself even if she is certain she never will. Not unless they end up in his homeworld somehow.

"Can mages that arrive here still gain access to the Fade? Would it hinder their abilities if they could not?" How unfortunate.

"A mage with no connection to the Fade is Tranquil. They do not dream, have no magic, and they are unable to feel any strong emotions. Their willpower is crippled." It's nightmarish. Justice briefly imagines what it would be like if no one could reach the Fade here, and he shudders. "No. The Fade is further away, but they can still connect to it from here."

Lioriley's expression shifts, and she looks visibly disturbed by the notion of Tranquility. Such a word's meaning seems inappropriate given what he says. No magic, no feeling, no dreams. A life she would not care to lead and would surely prefer to die if ever given the choice.

"That is good to hear. I would hate to think anyone here was suffering from being so far removed from it."
