Indoors
Wherever he went, there were three small snow leopards who followed him, one would generally try and stay on him if she could, but the other two followed along happily enough on paw. Plus, it gave them freedom to tumble and play in the snow.
It was probably the third or fourth time Anders and Pavel had crossed paths, mostly only exchanging acknowledgment and greeting before moving on to whatever else they were in the middle of. This time, one of the cats didn't seem content to let this familiar person from her ship go so easily. As he walked by, the pugnacious kitten did her best to pounce on Chekov's foot.]

The pouncing snow leopard kitten took Chekov's foot completely unawares. The Russian managed to both not drop the box he was carrying and avoid stepping on the kitten with a little careful (and somewhat graceless) maneuvering.
To the kitten:] Hello again.
[He set the box down and crouched to pet her, not at all offended by the unprovoked attack. He smiled up at Anders.] Are they being very helpful?

Lacey Paws!
Pavel, I'm so sorry, she...well, I can't say that was wholly unexpected, but still.
[Anders offered an apologetic smile in greeting as he came trotting over, the other two cats following along far better behaved than their sister.
Chekov's question gets a sigh equal parts exasperation and affection.]
By and large, they are. The people I help like seeing them and playing with them and they enjoy this weather quite a bit. How are you doing?
no subject
[As evidenced by the petting and the Russian endearments that were being directed at all three of the kittens.]
Me? I also enjoy this weather quite a bit, but I am surprised that you have been here for so much of the day. Not very many people seem to like it.

'Like' is probably far too kind a term. I'll take the cold over the heat, Ferelden is notorious for it's chilly weather, but I generally prefer something more mild than 'frozen wasteland.'
[He shrugs.] But people here still need help, the weather isn't their fault, I won't let it stop me from doing my job.

This isn't a proper frozen wasteland. The quality of the hot chocolate alone disqualifies it.
It's good of you to tolerate the cold to be helpful to these people. Is there anything that I can do?
no subject
I didn't realize there were different grades of frozen wasteland, I figured 'frozen' and 'wasteland' about covered it.
[And if he were perfectly honest, all hot chocolate was amazing to him, but he'd so rarely been able to have any back home, it was still a rich indulgence.]
Everyone could use an extra hand at times. Besides, I'm much happier being useful than sitting around doing nothing. [So you could easily say it was selfishly motivated, but Anders didn't voice the thought.]
I'm not sure...perhaps, depending on where your travels are taking you today, you could deliver some blankets one of the other inhabitants asked me to disperse?
no subject
[Never mind that vast amounts of Russia are not anywhere in the 'frozen wasteland' category.]
Understandable. [Insofar as it's a sentiment that he shares, selfish or not.] There is plenty of time to sit around doing nothing while drifting anyway.
I can do that! I will be almost everywhere at some point today.
