sixteenth labyrinth | Party because I can
Who: Felix Harrowgate and you
Broadcast: Fleetwide
Action: Málum
When: Today-ish
[It's largely boredom that leads Felix to this decision. Either in the Mirador or Paradisa, he'd been fond of finding any reason whatsoever to get a few people together for food and drinks. The company generally meant more than the setting, though of course it was far easier to arrange things at a snap of his fingers than it was here. Still, he manages it within a few days of the fleet's time adrift.
That morning, he addresses the network.]
Hello again, dear fleet. Felix Harrowgate of the Goldstone here, if we haven't yet met. I've put together a little soirée this evening, at Málum. Consider it an appreciation of our time of peace and quiet...or the beginnings of spring. Whichever sounds best to you. It isn't much, admittedly, but there is food and drinks and hopefully people. May as well enjoy things before something else explodes, hm?
Oh, and semi-formal attire would be appreciated, not that I intend on turning anyone out at the door. I'm sure many of us have a little something in our closet that doesn't much get to see the light of day. [Well, not so much in his case, of course, but the point stands]
See you all tonight. [He closes the feed with a smile]
[That night Málum is - not transformed, exactly, but - altered. The stark furniture softened with simple white tablecloths, with centerpieces cobbled together from wine glasses, candles, and flowers from the garden. The neon, for the night, has been switched off. Even the galaxy of lights on the dancefloor have been changed to project the shape of flowers.
The food laid out is fairly basic but fitting the bar's wheelhouse - meats cooked inside puff pastry, thin stacks of sauteed vegetables, and mini quiches to name of few. The finale sits in the form of the lemon cake (commissioned, likely, from the Melting Pot). Some of the flavor is even real lemon!
Drinks are free within reason and music plays softly in the background, for anyone that feels like dancing. Felix would have preferred more classical selections, but all of this is a case of working with what you have.]
[EDIT: If you wait too long Sansa will have stolen most of the cake]
((ooc: This is essentially a mingle, so feel free to make your own top levels and have some fun!))

He makes his way around the treats and drinks, happy to chat and indulge. If he's asked to dance he'll also gladly take a swing around the dance floor with a partner or two.
At some point, perhaps one to many drinks in or perhaps it was a challenge (the world may never know!), Kirk gets up on the infamous stripper pole and begins putting on a show. Is it professional quality? No, no it is not. But damn if he doesn't put some enthusiasm into it.
Sorry everyone. ]

[Brightly. You have at least one audience member, though whether she really wants to see him strip is debatable.] Tell me, do the flowers have any thorns?
['cause that could be awkward.]
no subject
[ He winks at her, grabbing the pole and leaning down towards her. ]
No thorns, but if you want something a little spicier, I can make that happen ~
no subject
Spiciness isn't really my thing. Creativity, on the other hand... I think you're doing just fine.
no subject
[ He laughed and jumped down from the pole. ]
As fun as it is dancing alone, I would prefer a partner.

I don't think I could live with myself if I were the cause of such a look.
[ He held out his hand to her, a crooked little smile on his face. ]
So, shall we?
no subject
[She takes his hand with great elegance for someone... dressed in a pair of baggy jeans and an anorak. But hey, her manners are on par at least.]
I'm Katie.

Jim Kirk.
[ He takes her out to the dance floor, wrapping an arm around her - keeping it high along her back, not daring to presume just yet as they swayed, not sure what dance she would be comfortable with as the music thumped gently in the background. ]
I don't believe I've seen you around here before, Katie. Are you new to the fleet?
no subject
But I've just woken up from an extra long nap, if that counts. Everything feels a little fresh. You?
no subject
Ah, one of the infamous Atroma naps.
[ He made a rough laugh at that. ]
Oh, about... I think it will be three years now? Two or three. I try not to keep to much track, to be quite honest. Feels a little depressing when you do that.

Yes, I do. I have a ship, my crew - my family. It's important for me to go back, though I hope that I can take some people here with me, get them home too, or find them a new one if they wish.

You know, I think I actually preferred what you were doing on the floor than on the pole.
[Just saying.]
no subject
[ Oh, Kirk will be the first to admit it is tacky. Very much so. But that's part of the charm! Embrace it! He sees Sandalio and he laughs, lazily spinning around the pole with one arm, one foot braced against the base. ]
There's still plenty of open slots on my dance card if you would like one, Sandalio.
no subject
I am fairly certain I do not know any of the dances of this age. I was trained more...classically.
no subject
Like a waltz?
[ He lets go of the pole and drops down, pausing a moment and blinking in the way that said someone was catching their balance as the room spun. ]
no subject
[He wouldn't be much of a gentleman if he couldn't dance. Heaven forbid that!]
no subject
Well, we don't exactly have the beat for it, but I think we can make it work.
[ He bowed and then held out his hand. ]
Might I have this dance, good sir?
no subject
You know how to waltz?
no subject
Among several other dances. Captains are diplomats too. We need a wide range of skills.
[ He smiled and reached his hand a little closer. ]
no subject
And does the Captain know how to follow?
no subject
When he has to.
[ He flashed his most winning grin, his hand still out, waiting, though now his other hand has moved to his hip. ]
no subject
[Sandalio takes the offered hand and with a tug he pulls the man to him. He's much shorter than the other man but that doesn't at all stop him from leading him to the music. It isn't the right song for this but somehow he finds the beat well enough that he makes it look easy. At least as far as the untrained eye is concerned.
Gentleman training and all that.]
no subject
[ Kirk didn't seem bothered by the height different, though he thought it made Sandalio look very cute. He wrapped one arm around Biffy's shoulders, letting the man lead him through the steps of the waltz, which Kirk did indeed know. It wasn't a very complicated dance, after all, and it was one of the easiest to teach any non-human ambassadors for parties. ]
You're a deft leader, Sandalio.
