[It's largely boredom that leads Felix to this decision. Either in the Mirador or Paradisa, he'd been fond of finding any reason whatsoever to get a few people together for food and drinks. The company generally meant more than the setting, though of course it was far easier to arrange things at a snap of his fingers than it was here. Still, he manages it within a few days of the fleet's time adrift.

That morning, he addresses the network.]

Hello again, dear fleet. Felix Harrowgate of the Goldstone here, if we haven't yet met. I've put together a little soirée this evening, at Málum. Consider it an appreciation of our time of peace and quiet...or the beginnings of spring. Whichever sounds best to you. It isn't much, admittedly, but there is food and drinks and hopefully people. May as well enjoy things before something else explodes, hm?

Oh, and semi-formal attire would be appreciated, not that I intend on turning anyone out at the door. I'm sure many of us have a little something in our closet that doesn't much get to see the light of day. [Well, not so much in his case, of course, but the point stands]

See you all tonight. [He closes the feed with a smile]

[That night Málum is - not transformed, exactly, but - altered. The stark furniture softened with simple white tablecloths, with centerpieces cobbled together from wine glasses, candles, and flowers from the garden. The neon, for the night, has been switched off. Even the galaxy of lights on the dancefloor have been changed to project the shape of flowers.

The food laid out is fairly basic but fitting the bar's wheelhouse - meats cooked inside puff pastry, thin stacks of sauteed vegetables, and mini quiches to name of few. The finale sits in the form of the lemon cake (commissioned, likely, from the Melting Pot). Some of the flavor is even real lemon!

Drinks are free within reason and music plays softly in the background, for anyone that feels like dancing. Felix would have preferred more classical selections, but all of this is a case of working with what you have.]

[Fortunately, the worst he gets from her for that display is just A Look- one that seems more amused than anything, really. It can't be too surprising that there aren't many rules on proper food etiquette for a society that solves like 98% of all problems through combat, after all.]

Eat, Sokka, then speak. You are difficult to understand otherwise.

[He's really not, she's just blatantly fishing for more praise. Princesses gonna princess.

But she's also not going to be rude and turn away the proffered pastry. Unsurprisingly, she tends to put away quite a bit of food herself, so she'd have to go through quite a bit of the food here before it even approaches something she'd consider a snack- she's got only slightly better table manners though, because that pastry's gone in record time.]

Was there really nothing else you could wear? The invitation did ask for something nicer.

[She doesn't sound particularly crestfallen about it though, it's idle curiosity more than anything- after all, his usual attire isn't too different from what she's comfortable running around in. Even if it is less armored.]

[Hey, she took the pastry and that was absolutely his main aim, and so, he smiles, pleased. ]

Well, these are my formal furs. I mean...I don't really go in for all those suits and whatever.

[He brushes them off with a soft frown.]

They always feel weird. Like the Earth formal wear that everyone's so fond of when they do these fancy parties. It's just not me.

[Well, that's definitely a sentiment she understands. She's seen what would pass as formal wear for her- by human standards, at least- and she was not interested. Heck she was trying to figure out how some of the dresses she'd seen stayed on most of the time, though given her particular circumstances, one staying intact would be a small blessing in itself.]

It cannot be that bad. Even on Khoros, we are not always in armor. But I understand the need for something comfortable.

[There's also something to be said for how easy it is to get to- like, say, how she's approaching the matter of getting more food right now. She could go all the way over to where the tables full of the stuff are, or she could just take another meat pastry from Sokka's plate.

And if he's at all surprised she opted for "take more of his food," he clearly hasn't been paying attention to anything she does ever.]

Boy yeah, and if I'm gonna be here, eating a lot of food, I want to be comfy.

[He's got his EATING PANTS on. Speaking of, he doesn't seem to mind that she's stealing food from him. It's an honour very few people get to reach. ]

Besides, there's a couple people here less formal than we are, so I think we're in the clear.

[She actually manages a small smile at the open gluttony. She may not be judgmental about it, but she can tease. Even if Sokka's...pretty much the only one here ever subjected to it. Hm.]

Try not to become too comfortable, Sokka. I will not be merciful in our battle just because you've grown fat and complacent.

[Even if she is heading off to get them both a fresh drink. In her defense, he unfortunately only has the two hands, and his spoils from the buffet table are keeping both of them occupied. She's got the proper number, and one of them is waving dismissively as she walks off to collect their refreshments.]

Even if there were not, it hardly matters. I made an effort at compliance, there should be no complaints!

[He gasps in faux horror, putting a hand to his chest. ]

Princess, I would never do such a thing. Wow, that got me right in the heart. Ow.

[She's good to him, truly. ]

You did, I'm impressed. You should tell the people who didn't dress up that- [he stops, mid-sentence] no. Wait, I'm joking, I just realised you probably would.

[Have a little faith, Sokka! She'll only get high and mighty on everyone if they dare to complain where she can hear! She returns soon enough, holding out a glass of wine for him with one of her lower hands.

She'd also picked up her own probably overfilled plate of meat pastries- evidently they had similar tastes there. Why go for sweet snacks when there's something with a little more substance?]

If you think that was painful, I have some very unfortunate news about what our battle will entail.

[She'd do her very best to keep it non-lethal of course, but...human frailty being what it is, she was already considering how to best keep in the good graces of the Blue Fish's medic.]

I should also mention I would prefer you wait until I have completed your armor. It would be a shame to damage it, but it would at least improve your chances...

[Whether she's referring to his chances of winning or survival is really anyone's guess.]

[He shifts his delicious food hoard onto one arm to take the glass of wine, raising it in thanks. ]

Trust me, I'm prepared for that. I've been training with some of the toughest people I know, up to and including an actual God.

[So she knows he's still taking this very seriously. He's going to guess it's probably 'survival' but he can pretend to himself she means 'winning'.]

Aww, that'd be great. I really do like the idea of better chances.

Ohhh? Then I hope you fight well, now that you've put their reputation on the line...

[There's a decent chance she's just messing with him at this point. Though she's also plainly intrigued by just what sort of difference help from an actual God would make. It's not a concept she's completely familiar with, but she does imagine a god's not unlike the Arehtei from the last world she was stuck in.]

As do I. There have been just two to succeed- and one of them challenged me when I was much smaller. An advantage you definitely do not have.

Well, I'd hate to put a dent in their reputation.

[He'll happily mess right back, flashing her a grin. ]

Absolutely not, that is an advantage that I'll never have a chance at, not even if I wore stilts.

You do have other advantages. I already value your company- they had to fight for it. And you are already taller than both!

[Wait that's not entirely accurate. She'll clarify a bit before devouring another one of those pastries.]

...most of the time, at least!

And I'm handsome, too, right? That helps too, right?

[His grin widens, and he waggles his eyebrows for good measure. It's absolutely okay to punch him. ]

Uh...most of the time? Did they have growth spurts or something?

If you want that sort of praise, you should train harder. But you are not unpleasant to look at.

[She'll take that opportunity to take another drink from her glass...and sneakily use a lower arm to swat the back of his head. Can't have him get too confident!]

No...one of them could transform. I do not know the full extent of it, but he could take on the form of many different races in the known galaxy. Tetramands included.

[Which is also an advantage Sokka definitely doesn't have. He'll have to work a lot harder at it if he wants to win the same way- she's reasonably sure he can't topple a spire onto her head.]

[He gives a soft yelp as she swats him, laughing and rubbing the poor affected skull. ]

That was absolutely a compliment and I'm keeping it. No take backs!!!

[He's keeping it FOREVER. And that's...some news. ]

Oh. Wow. Yeah. No. I can definitely not do that. I'm permanently human.
