[ So the weekly shuffle has happened. We got new captains, people who have mysteriously disappeared-- I mean, who have never existed, and new people aboard the ships. That's exciting! Wow! ]

[ New people, get acquainted with your ships? Press all the buttons? Introduce yourself like a polite individual? Old people, keep aging? Welcome them with open arms and confetti? Punch the person who just opened the door while you were in the shower??? ]

[ Who knows! It's a mingle post! Don't ask me!]

He seems like the type who enjoys being difficult, but you might be able to sway him over to your side with a little motivation.

If food works, I'll try it. If I'm to stay on this ship with him, I'd rather it be as painless as possible.

That's the spirit! Hopefully he'll be slightly amenable and reciprocate if you make some overtures. It's unfortunate for it to be entirely your responsibility to begin things, but sometimes that's what it takes.

As far as responsibility on this ship goes, I should get used to it.

It's not so much that, but I do wish they'd think about their situation more.

I've worked alone for a long time, this is almost the same thing.

"Think about their situation more" in what sense?

[amarant]

They complain about the food provided on the ship, but instead of contributing, they've gone and bought alcohol and other things that we don't need. What we have on the ship won't magically improve, and wasting their funds certainly won't help.

If you can set up a system where you're growing your food, you could improve relations on the ship and assume a position where you could exchange services with them.

If the situation is untenable, you could consider switching ships.

Negotiations were never my strong suit, I'll admit.

[ It probably doesn't help that this ship does seem to have the overall attitude of EVERY MAN FOR HIMSELF. ]

Well, this is an opportunity to develop your skills.

Remember that you probably have an out if it becomes overwhelming.

That's true, I should look at it as a learning experience.

I take it your own crew is much easier to manage?

Nunnally is part of my crew! She's a goodhearted girl. My other crew member is a little more reluctant to engage with us. [TO SAY THE LEAST.] I'm hoping he'll come around.

I wonder how the other ships get along...though maybe that's what the worlds like to watch, is us struggling.

I wouldn't truly be surprised.

It seems to be what people are the most entertained by.

This upcoming planet may give us a chance to find out.

With any luck, even if it's terrible, there'll be topsoil there for you to collect! It might be viable for you to start a garden.

[ Well, she has plenty of space in the sickbay...and probably elsewhere on the ship. ]

I have to say, I never thought this is what I would be doing with my time here. I can't say I mind, though.

In my opinion it's something that could be not only valuable for you and your crew, but for all of us! Who knows what strange properties might be derived from alien flora?

I'll share what grows with you, since you're interested.

Of course, it would be difficult to find out what sort of properties any of these plants have without a test subject.

Perhaps we'll find someone willing... or we can capture an animal subject on planet. Or we can make use of the technology provided in my lab.

Any animal would have to be similar enough to humans for us to know properly.

...it'd be easier to skip that step. If you'll keep watch during, I'll test it on myself.
