Alert! Alert!

[bright and early one Sunday morning, proximity alarms begin to blare. could it be another set of disorienting malfunctions?

no... this one is for real. the Drift Fleet is under attack!

any ship with a scanning array will pick up a small swarm of ships--roughly the same caliber as the ships in your fleet--swooping in fast from distant space. any pilot, engineer, or communications officer who remembers those strange blips in the radar over the last several months can confirm that this is that very same group that's been following them. this time, they're not leaving room for negotiations, and they will not respond to any hailing or threats. they are on a mission.

within minutes, weapons are live, and the fleet is fired upon. suddenly, the casual drifting of the fleet turns into something much more real, and much more dangerous.

do you follow your augment's call and run to your station? do you flee your responsibilities? do you wish you could help and can't? are the captains leading or floundering, and are their crews even listening?

for a few terrifying moments, the fleet will be hammered, and Atroma is silent. you are all on your own, dear passengers. your little ships are not prepared for this, you have not been trained--and your enemies have no such trouble. a few ships are even shot down, forced to make crash-landings on nearby stations.

things look grim as the terribly-outmatched little fleet fights to defend itself... until the attacking fleet suddenly turns and bolts back into the darkness without warning.

maybe the attack was a warning. maybe they were just testing you. maybe something frightened them off.

whatever the reason, you are all left beaten and confused, without explanation at all.]

ooc posthere
this is a little event to kick off April! and it is essentially a glorified themed mingle, so there is no rush to reply to this immediately. the outcomes of the ships have been predetermined, based on the augments of the crews. all of that information and more (including info for people on hiatus and who wish to opt-out) can be found on the ooc post as well.

flourish or buckle under the pressure, help or hinder, and most importantly-- have fun!

[meanwhile hiro looks like toddler who's only upset because he got caught with his hand in the fireplace cookie jar.

[he sits down, though, cross-legged on the floor.]

I had to try to keep the shields powered.

[Axel pulls his gloves off and stuffs them in his pocket, then shifts to sit down cross-legged as well, across from Hiro.]

Hold your hands out, okay? This might feel a little weird, but it won't hurt.

[He opens his hands over Hiro's palms, concentrating a moment. Cure is still hard for him--he's never been good with restorative magic. Fire he picked up with no trouble, and even Thunder and Aero he's pretty good with. Cure and Blizzard, though, he's all thumbs. The spell is weak and wobbly, but the magic heeds him, albeit reluctantly. A greenish glow surrounds Hiro's hands, and the burned skin slowly knits itself neatly back together, the angry redness fading.

[The spell doesn't quite do the whole trick, though, so Axel gives a bit of a huff and tries once more. Two Cures and Hiro's hands should be back to normal, healed cleanly, though they might still be a bit tender.]

Phew. I gotta practice that stuff more, I suck. [He meets his eye then, brows lifted.] Better?

[hiro seems to be very incredibly amazed by the healing magic. it's the first time he's seen this kind of thing in action.]

... Whoa. That felt awesome.

[you've knocked the whining out of him, axel.]

[He grins a little, resting his elbows on his knees.]

Magic comes in pretty handy, I'll admit. I remember on more than one occasion, I really got my butt saved by--

[He stops short, frowning. Wait. By who? Roxas wasn't that great with magic, so why does he feel like someone had really come through for him on missions a few times? There's that strange tip of the tongue feeling crawling through his brain again; this happens sometimes, and it makes him really uneasy. It's like he's forgotten a verse to a song he was sure he knew by heart.

[He shakes his head and smiles again.]

... By having a few tricks up my sleeve. [He rubs the back of his neck and grimaces a little--he got knocked around a bit while he was on the bridge, and he has a feeling he's gonna be aching later, but he knows today could have gone a lot worse. Mostly he's just glad he was able to help Hiro out.] Healing magic's a little harder than Fire and the others, at least for me, but if you get the hang of magic I'm sure you can learn it, too.

I could learn healing...

[he's inspecting his hands. this is pretty much the most amazing thing he's seen all week.]

This is amazing... Uh--thanks, Axel.

[he's so awed.]
got_it_memorized: (headscratch//well that's awkward)

[Axel rubs the back of his neck awkwardly, the way he always does when someone shows gratitude or gives him a compliment.]

Hey, it's no problem. We're, ah... we're friends, right? Friends do that sort of stuff for each other.

[He gets back to his feet and offers a hand to pull Hiro up, then gestures toward engineering.] Let's have a look, yah? If you can show me what's been damaged and what needs to be replaced, I'm sure I can find the parts. I'm pretty good at that sort of thing.
