Alert! Alert!

[bright and early one Sunday morning, proximity alarms begin to blare. could it be another set of disorienting malfunctions?

no... this one is for real. the Drift Fleet is under attack!

any ship with a scanning array will pick up a small swarm of ships--roughly the same caliber as the ships in your fleet--swooping in fast from distant space. any pilot, engineer, or communications officer who remembers those strange blips in the radar over the last several months can confirm that this is that very same group that's been following them. this time, they're not leaving room for negotiations, and they will not respond to any hailing or threats. they are on a mission.

within minutes, weapons are live, and the fleet is fired upon. suddenly, the casual drifting of the fleet turns into something much more real, and much more dangerous.

do you follow your augment's call and run to your station? do you flee your responsibilities? do you wish you could help and can't? are the captains leading or floundering, and are their crews even listening?

for a few terrifying moments, the fleet will be hammered, and Atroma is silent. you are all on your own, dear passengers. your little ships are not prepared for this, you have not been trained--and your enemies have no such trouble. a few ships are even shot down, forced to make crash-landings on nearby stations.

things look grim as the terribly-outmatched little fleet fights to defend itself... until the attacking fleet suddenly turns and bolts back into the darkness without warning.

maybe the attack was a warning. maybe they were just testing you. maybe something frightened them off.

whatever the reason, you are all left beaten and confused, without explanation at all.]

ooc posthere
this is a little event to kick off April! and it is essentially a glorified themed mingle, so there is no rush to reply to this immediately. the outcomes of the ships have been predetermined, based on the augments of the crews. all of that information and more (including info for people on hiatus and who wish to opt-out) can be found on the ooc post as well.

flourish or buckle under the pressure, help or hinder, and most importantly-- have fun!

[HE HAS BEEN READY FOR THIS SINCE DAY ONE LET'S GO.

he's already rushing to his station. while the grid goes up, overlaying the immediate field, he reaches up and broadcasts out to the crew:]

Coil, secure the lab.

[because they're going to need that to not be a mess in a second.]

Nunnally, can you keep an eye on the radar-- [there's a beeping confirmation sound.] Don't want anymore surprises if we can help it.

[all good ideas. She doesn't talk over him, but notes everything he says and agrees]

It's the ships, the one that have been following us for months. [to think they'd finally make a move. Why did they wait at all? Where did they come from? But this isn't the time for rhetoric and thinking, it's the time for action]

They're all clustered together for the moment, if we can prevent them from spreading out around us-- [hnnng, but the ship groans under the heavy beating that it's taking, and she stops talking to look over the ship diagnostics. This looks bad...]

Got it.

[there's finally a sound from their guns; firing back. they try to split formation, naturally, but Zhas was expecting it--and is already corralling them back together into a cluster.

this is definitely not the kind of weaponry he's used to, but the augment helps, and he's focused. he doesn't want this ship to go down any more than anyone else.]

[She's late getting to her station. Not because she didn't want to be there, but because when they got hit first, she was close to the area of impact. She almost is not limping, but there's a obvious tear in her pant leg and blood staining around it. There's a bleeding cut on her forehead, and in the corner of her mouth. She's also mussed with black soot, and smells like smoke. There had been a fire, and it looks like she put it out with her cloak.]

Sorry, I'm late. Got hung up.

[Her tone is firm, clear, and all business. Don't worry about her, lets survive this.]

[he glances over at her--but it's pretty obvious to him that she'll survive her injuries, and that she's here to get shit done. much approval.

he points to the second weapons console. it's already powering up.]

I've split the field. Focus on the starboard side.

[and he's aaallready zeroing in on something to shoot at. normally he'd be useless in the face of this kind of technology, but his augment is helping him out--he slips easily into the roll.]

Got it.

[It's surreal, taking up the weapons console and knowing what does what. She'll never get used to knowing things she didn't study. But she also knows better than to gripe about such things when they're saving her ass.]

Gosh, I just got here and people already trying to kill me. Feels like home.

[Yes, she's kind of talking to herself.]
