[Katara is also shopping for herbs, specifically the kind Ginko had planted in her garden a long time ago - perilla, rosemary, chamomile, mitsuba... Stephen might notice that most of the herbs in her basket are of the sort which have medicinal purposes.

She's currently eyeing up a planet that looks like aloe, but isn't quite right - the color is just a bit too light. Katara glances about to see if she can find someone to help her figure out what the plant is for, but when no one is there, she touches it like she's tempted to just break a leaf and figure it out for herself.

Glancing up one more time, she spots Stephen and her hand drops back to her side.] Excuse me, have you seen the person who works here?

[Since... you know, his skin's not orange, so he probably doesn't work here.]

[Stephen looks up from the basket full of what looked like dried juniper fruits at the young woman's question, looking around to see if he really is the intended recipient of it. He shakes his head before answering:]

Not since I've been here, no.

[His gaze drops to her basket, where he easily recognize a few plants he himself shopped for a few days before, in another stall. His tilts his head, raising an eyebrow slowly:]

Are you looking for something in particular? Maybe I can help you?

[Given the fact that he spends most of his time reading about this system, he might very well be able to help her.]

Really? [She frowns; that's pretty poor customer service. Oh well, maybe they're on a coffee break, or their favorite team is competing in their favorite competition or something.]

I was just trying to figure out what this is. [She pokes at the plant again.] I don't see a label for it anywhere.

Mmm. I don't see why they would be actively avoid me. [He is here to give them business after all.

Strange moves closer to the young woman to give the plant she pokes a better look. It does look like aloe, but the leaves are thicker and paler and missing the spots that's so unique to aloe, and Stange frowns lightly:]

That looks like Agave americana to me. Is your goal to poison someone?

[He's not really judging, but the raised eyebrow might be a sign that he might be disapproving.]

[She looks taken aback and offended at the question.] What? No. What kind of a question is that? I told you that I just wanted to know what it was.

[His goal hadn't been to offend the young woman, and he shrugs lightly:]

It's a legitimate question, since the sap in the leaves can cause superficial burns, and efficiently kill in manner of hours anyone ingesting it. If that is really the same agave we have on Earth.

[Stephen tilts his head to one side, and nods at the contain of her basket:]

Not what you're looking for, I take?

[ She measures his response in a way that indicates she's trying to decide whether or not she wants to keep talking with him. Apparently, the answer is yes, but she's proceeding with a bit more caution.

First, a firm denial: ] No, it wasn't. [ Her tone relents slightly: ] I'm not overly familiar with plants from Earth, although many of them seem to be similar across worlds. Why do you know so much about poisons?

[ Subtle, Katara is... not. ]

[Stephen watches her seemingly debate either keep talking to him, or turning her heels around with mild curiosity. There's no lost if she leaves him here, but there's certainly something to gain in keeping talking to her, especially if his suspicions about the content of her basket reveals to be true.]

So, it's not just in this world?

[That is a relief in itself: it means that he might be able to find good medicine to replenish the Goldstone pharmacy.]

That would be because I spent more than half of my life studying how to treat and stop them, among many other things. I'm a doctor.

[A pause, as Stephen realizes she might not know what a 'doctor' maybe, if she's not familiar with Earth's flora] A healer from Earth, if you want.

[ Katara blinks after he introduces himself as a doctor, though she doesn't really soften until he goes on to explain what a doctor is. Because. That's kind of hilarious and adorable - she can see why he would feel it is necessary to do so, but considering her situation, it's still kind of funny to her. And it's reassuring, since she doesn't think someone who would use their medical knowledge to harm would so readily identify as a healer, or see the need to further clarify what a doctor means. ]

I know what a doctor is. But you're right, I'm not from Earth, so I appreciate the explanation. What's not just in this world?
